    Job Summary

    Farm manager will be expected to manage the farm proactively liaising with the director in managing the firm effectively.
    This role is on a contract basis. The successful candidate will continue employment with us on a permanent basis as we grow the enterprise.

    Qualifications

    Previous experience in managing a farm or horticultural crops with a focus on herbs such as peppers, basil, chives etc.
    Experience in cow, poultry and pig production.
    Must be computer literate.
    Excellent husbandry skills and Knowledge of Health Programme.
    Knowledge of produce markets in Kenya and beyond

    Responsibilities

    Recruiting and supervising temporary workers to prepare the property for planting, creation of seed beds, transplanting, harvest etc. as necessary.
    Supervising the construction and ongoing operation of greenhouse units from time to time
    Preparing and executing processes and procedures for the management of our greenhouses
    Maintaining greenhouse cleanliness and ensuring sanitation procedures are followed
    Monitoring and maintaining current systems e.g. irrigation, water tanks and drip lines
    Monitoring the health of plants for any diseases and pests
    Executing crop watering, pesticide and fertilizer applications as per the recommended standards.
    Ensuring the highest available quality and yield of produce from current facilities from seeds or seedlings planted.
    Recommending changes to improve crop yields, reduce costs and increase ROI as necessary
    Recommending appropriate crop varieties to increase the farm’s income and returns
    Providing frequent updates to directors on the status of the farm and health of crops
    Planning, setting production targets, and buying materials needed for the farm, such as animal drugs and maintaining health and safety across the farm.
    Continuously monitoring the quality, performance of the produce and also monitoring the health and welfare of the animals
    Managing the firms budget, cash flow and communicating with suppliers
    Monitoring and documenting all yields and record keeping.
    Arranging the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment
    Managing the smooth operation of breeding, gestation and finishing units which includes feed and co-ordination of animal flows.
    Implement Bio-security controls and procedures for people.

    POSITION SUMMARY & PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

    The incumbent’s role under the general guidance of technical manager and within the limits of the established Farm policies, procedures & regulations, shall ensure products produced meets the necessary quality, processes by monitoring and implementing.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Ensure product produced at the pack house is of the quality to meet customer requirements whilst ensuring the factory operation remains efficient and cost effective.
    Audit and review quality records ensuring they are maintained in accordance with company procedures and escalating any problems or inconsistencies found.
    Investigate and report on customer complaints to client’s notifications/rejections, where appropriate, make recommendations of action to prevent a reoccurrence of the problem.
    Maintain summaries of customer complaints and trending on the same monitor the sequence for presentation in weekly production meeting.

    Coordinate and arrange for the packing of shelf life products and ensure QCs keep unto date records.

    Provide support to the Technical manager.  I.e. assist in coordination of successful audits (BRC, Global Nurture, Waitrose, select farm, TFS etc., done throughout the year.
    Ensure all staff are trained in order to perform jobs adequately and specifically to ensure quality products are delivered with a minimum of wastage and optimization of stock control.
    Supervises, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in in-load and inspection of incoming materials, in process, and finished products to ensure adherence to company quality standards and customer specifications
    Trains workers on the inspection procedure for each new product and maximum and minimum acceptable dimensions.
    Repeats inspection procedure until product meets quality standards and specifications are attained.
    Ensure Quality and Rejection reports are send through to farm and field Management.
    Ensure accurate temperature reports are taken and sent to respective persons. Produce arrival, Packhouse and Finished product temperatures whilst escalating temperatures above limits.

    Supervise, plan and coordinate daily duties to the quality controllers.
    Maintain up to date forms and records, updating on annual basis as well as ensuring the correct version is in use.
    ensure customer specs are available all the timespans communicated to the QCs.
    Act as the link between the management and the quality assurance team.
    Reduction of raw material wastage at pack house to reasonable levels.
    Provide cover in absence of technical manager.
    Promote and maintain ethical and professional standards in line with company staff regulations, ETI and other codes of conducts to enhance worker welfare.
    Health and Safety – Ensure all duties are performed safely and responsibly in consideration to Environmental, Health and Safety Company policies
    Any other duty as may be assigned to you by the management from time to time.

    POSITION SUMMARY & PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

    The incumbent in this position is responsible for overall technical matters at the Packhouse running and coordination of farm operations to ensure maximum production of safe, quality, legal and authentic product in order to optimize the company market share and improve the farms efficiency and productivity and at the same time ensuring staff welfare and protection and conservation of the environment.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Job holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment and loyalty and perform all duties in accordance with the organization’s office routines and procedures, keeping in mind the overall business objectives.

    The main purpose of this position is to oversee and conduct internal audits that conform to food safety, quality and standard operating procedures.  Ensure that products, systems and procedures are compliant with customers’ codes of practice and specifications.
    In conjunction with the quality assurance manager, oversee the technical functions for the vegetables section whilst ensuring that all hygiene and quality procedures are operated in adherence with documented procedures as outlined in the QMS.
    Communicate all aspects of Technical policy to Technical team.
    Provide up to date technical advice for specific areas of technical responsibility
    Ensure accurate and prompt responses and consequent corrective action to all technical incidences including customer complaints, micro out of spec, audit non-conformity, pesticide residues, MRLs, and any other non-conformity.
    Use QMS data to monitor and review performance taking appropriate action and implementing product and process improvement.
    Conduct internal audits of the canteen and company systems including all production, process, hygiene and quality systems and continually review, develop the technical and production systems with the aim of improving their effectiveness and efficiencies. Follow up on external audits corrective/ improvement plans.
    Implement requirements of the Global nurture and BRC standards, Tesco food standards, and any other relevant standards for factory.
    Keep up to date with technical developments and encourage the continual development of our products and processes.
    Instigate and manage production process and development trails.
    Manage all aspects of food safety relating to vegetable pack house, pest control, farm production areas, canteens and ensure that they comply with the relevant legislations.
    Manage and monitor cleaning chemical costs and ensure they do not exceed budget.
    Provides support and cover for the quality assurance manager.
    Ensure all technical staff are trained in order to perform jobs adequately and specifically to ensure quality products are delivered with a minimum of wastage and optimization of stock control.

    Responsibilities

    Outreach Activities

    Responsible for an updated and resource center consolidated database of farmers being (currently submitted monthly via Kobo Toolbox) reached through FCP activities.
    Carry out farmer trainings to community groups to provide relevant knowledge and skills development on ecological sustainable agriculture practices and technologies.
    Promote use of organic and ecologically sustainable farming methodologies through establishment of demonstration plots in selected farms.
    Participate in field days and agricultural shows.
    Carry out school trainings and participate in other school events to promote knowledge and skills development on ecological sustainable agriculture technologies for school going children.
    Train farmer groups on sound organizational development in order to benefit from better and more reliable markets.
    Conduct regular farmer visits and follow-ups to deepen skills and knowledge acquired from other training activities.
    Using FCP participatory methods and tools, lead farmer groups in participatory needs identification and analysis leading to development of farmer action plans
    Link up with value chain support organizations to facilitate improved market linkages for the target farmers.
    Promote the use of FCP information and communication pathways (TOF magazine, TOF radio and Infonet) to increases awareness and knowledge of the benefits of organic farming and environmental conservation.
    Proactively engage and coordinate with relevant County governments departments, NGOs and other institutions in your region of operation to develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
    Respond in a timely manner to queries raised by farmers through visits to the resource centre and BvAT’s Tusemezane platform.

    Administrative and management functions

    Supervise Farmer Field Assistants attached to the Resource Centre to ensure all the set targets for each FFA are met within the expected standards.
    Responsible for administrative functions; including timely payments of the bills, cleanliness, security and general centre maintenance to ensure staff are well facilitated and supported to carry out their activities smoothly.
    Ensure all resources provided to the resource centre are used prudently and well maintained. The FFO maintains and updates the assets register.
    Facilitate and lead monthly meetings with Farmer Field Assistants to plan monthly activities and prepare monthly reports.
    Using the provided templates, timely submit centre consolidated monthly workplans, reports and timesheets. The FFO does the initial check on the FFA’s timesheet, signs and submit to the Outreach Manager.
    Maintain and update project records and files, both paper and electronic, using the filing structure provided. The records include, and not limited to, monthly reports, plans, documented consultative meetings with farmers, M&E tools/forms, activity photos, assets register, etc.
    Ensure the resource centre fully complies with the branding and operations protocols as shall be advised.
    Complete in a timely manner staff appraisal with the Outreach Manager in line with BvAT’s Appraisal system. The FFO does the first level FFA’s appraisal, signs and submit to the Outreach Manager.
    Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications

    SNV Kenya is seeking a professional with experience and expertise in agribusiness development.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide primary technical direction to the REALMS project business components that aim to incentivize the uptake of regenerative and circular agricultural production.
    Lead market research and value chain analysis to guide develop business strategies and identify opportunities for investments in targeted value chains and markets.
    Provide technical support to farmer-led enterprises in terms of leveraging their capacities to become business enterprises by providing business advisory services and identifying possible directions and tools to strengthen the enterprises and support relevant market players.
    Provide advice on business planning, financial management, governance and day-to-day management of agro-enterprises.
    Build capacity of farmers through training, coaching and mentorship other extension providers, ensuring the integration of best production and post-harvest practices for enhancing value of their products.
    Develop and maintain positive working relationships with SNV staff, national and local authorities, international and national organizations as well as technical focal points in agriculture.
    Coordinate all planned activities with the Agronomist, Policy and Advocacy advisor and M&E expert, and donors and other development agencies to ensure consistency with sector priorities.
    Support formulation of appropriate policies that create and enabling environment for adoption of regenerative and circular agriculture.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Rural Development or related field from a recognized University; A Master’s degree preferred.
    At least 5 years of experience working on international development programs to improve production and incomes through agribusiness model
    Demonstrated experience of successfully linking farmers and agribusinesses to markets
    Demonstrated experience in building the capacity of farmers, and businesses.
    Familiarity with inclusive business models and application to resource constrained small holder farmers.
    Must possess a strong understanding of group development processes and facilitation skills, including developing and delivering training and group consensus building.
    Familiarity with results chains and monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
    Proficiency in English is required.

    Job Description

    The Agricultural Extension Officer is responsible for planning and implementing of food security and livelihood program in adherence with RACIDA and donor guidelines and standards. He/she will be based in Wajir County. The Agricultural Extension Officer will be reporting to the County Coordinator in Wajir County.

    Responsibilities

    Program Implementation

    Provide relevant training and skills development to Agro-pastoral farmers on high value crop production and on-farm water management.
     Lead stakeholder dialogue and consultation meetings with project communities
     Coordinate the production of high value crops and scaling of successful approaches
     Provide agriculture extension service support to focal farming households
     Support the development of increased market linkages for focal farming households
    Coordinate and liaise with other stakeholders in the project implementation
     Advise farmers to adopt best farming practices
     Represent RACIDA in the cluster/donor meetings
    Review facilitation/training manuals on key topic areas covered under the project to ensure they are addressing the Agro-pastoral needs
    Provide assessments and analyses on improving crop production and project outcomes for the target project areas
    Coordinate monitoring visits with established community structures in the project areas
    Coordinate with other organizations in the same location to ensure no duplication of efforts.
    Coordinate and lead needs assessments in project target areas.

    Qualifications

    Holds a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in either Agriculture or Food Technology or Agriculture & Home Economics or Agricultural Education & Horticulture or Agronomist or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    Have at least more three (3) years’ experience in the relevant field; 
    Experience on similar projects in Wajir or ASAL areas of Kenya.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages including Microsoft Word and Excel.
    Excellent communication and writing skills.
    Good spoken Somali and spoken and written English preferably.
    A strong understanding of the socio-cultural and political context in Wajir
    Able to operate effectively and to gain trust in politically sensitive environments.
