    SCOPE OF WORK

    The Thematic Lead will provide leadership on the theme of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices and technologies, Sustainable Finance, bundling of CSA practices and technologies with Climate Information Services and Sustainable Finance and be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of activities related to this theme.
    The duties and responsibilities of the Thematic Lead will include, among others:
    Provide scientific leadership for planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting of the project’s agenda related to CSA technologies and practices, bundling and sustainable finance.
    Ensure overall Theme coherence and deliver on the Theme targets and outcomes. This includes responsibility for:
    Coordination of Theme activities among CGIAR Centres and relevant partners
    Coherence of the Theme workplan, annual planning, reporting and budget
    Providing technical backstopping of Theme activities to ensure quality of outputs and outcomes (reviews of the P&R, checking budgets, supporting inter-Center discussions and planning).
    To provide guidance and oversight on monitoring and evaluation on the project.
    To keep in close contact with the Regional and country Leads to ensure that the Theme research activities in each region contribute to the overall achievements of the Project and that strong synergies are build.
    Establish high quality and high-profile scientific outputs, ensuring its regular delivery
    Provide support to the AICCRA leadership team to foster synthesis work
    Oversee and execute fund raising actions for the Theme
    Ensure the implementation of good internal communication on all Theme activities and meetings team so that other AICCRA core team members, appropriate country and regional leaders are familiar with the various plans in the Flagship.

    REPORTING LINE/COMMUNICATION

    The Thematic Lead shall report to the Project Coordinator of AICCRA.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    A PhD degree or MSc degree plus appropriate experience in a discipline relevant to policies and institutions for scaling CSA.
    At least 10 years’ experience in agricultural research for development in areas relevant to AICCRA (e.g. climate smart agriculture, scaling agricultural innovations, enabling conditions for agricultural development, policies and institutions, monitoring and evaluation)
    Extensive regional experience (min. 10 years) of working in Africa.
    Broad working experience (min. 10 years) at international organizations.
    Proven experience and skills in managing projects and partnerships.
    Proven capacity to work across multiple stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations (CSOs), local communities, and the private sector.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Written and oral communication in French an added advantage.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    An officer at this level may be based at the Headquarters as the Head of Technical Division and will assist the respective Chief Officer in the day to day administration and management of the department.
    Duties and responsibilities will involve:-

    implementation of strategic plan; coordinate the setting of performance targets;
    handling technical, administrative, human resource, budgetary and assets management issues; and
    standards of the division in consultation with the Chief Officer. Other duties and responsibilities will depend on the mandate of the specific department and will entail;
    policy formulation, interpretation and implementation; negotiation, legislation and domestication of the relevant MEAs and related processes;
    conceptualization, development, implementation and monitoring of environmental and Natural Resource projects, programmes, and strategic initiatives;

    Required Skills

    Qualifications

    Bachelors’ degree in agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, or any related fields.
    Relevant work experience of 2-4 years in data management and analysis. Fertilizer specific data management is a desirable advantage.
    Good knowledge of Fertilizer market in Kenya and Eastern Africa fertilizer industry is mandatory.
    Excellent writing, reporting and oral communication skills
    Must possess deductive reasoning skills and be able to analyze and synthesize information for problem solving.

    GroR is seeking a talented and experienced Junior Hub Coordinator – field based to join our growing agricultural business by assisting our local implementing partner Farmshine to expand our GroR platform.
    Reporting to the Senior Hub Coordinator of GroR, the Junior Hub Coordinator is expected to be responsible and accountable for the management of the allocated Hub.
    Key Responsibilities include:
    Purchases

    Buy grain, pulses and other produce according to the set targets agreed with GroR management
    Ensure the quality of the produce purchased respects the GroR standards

    Hub Security & Operations

    Responsible and in control of the inventory held in the containers of your hub and accountable when stock take happens.
    Ensure security of containers in the hub by performing all the necessary checks and security procedures as stipulated
    Ensure full traceability of the bags from farm gate to buyer, by accurately registering them on the GroR platform with the corresponding QR code. Additionally, ensure that physical inventory matches inventory in the GroR platform.

    Training

    Carry out farmer trainings to community groups on regenerative agricultural practices as well as quality standards and basic processing (e.g. cleaning, sorting, polishing).
    Train farmer groups on sound organizational development in order to benefit from better and more reliable markets.
    Identify any specific training need for registered farmers and associations and, where appropriate, deliver part or the whole of it
    Agriculture profitability management (understanding of costs of production, revenues and profit)

    Farmer registration & Spot Offers

    Responsible for an updated and consolidated database of farmers being (submitted via our mobile app) reached through GroR activities.
    Build trust with farmers and ensure they fully understand the benefits offered by GroR’s platform to progressively take them up the income curve 

    Field/farmer engagement

    Conduct regular farmer visits and follow-ups to deepen skills and knowledge acquired from other training activities.
    Ensure GroR quality standards are applied along the whole value chain
    Identify & evaluate best performing farmers to be used as GroR role models and support them in their development

    Professional Qualifications:

    Degree or Diploma in horticulture, agronomy, agricultural extension, climate smart farming technologies or any other relevant academic qualification.
    Demonstratable technical skills and hands on experience in Village Savings and Loans schemes, and other Financial Inclusion innovations**, including deployment of micro-insurance schemes.**
    Experience working with smallholder farmers in capacity development, climate-smart agro-extension services provision, and agri-business support.
    Having worked for a fresh produce off taker or with farmers organised as out growers is an added advantage.
    Proficiency in computer applications.
    Good interpersonal skills and a proven team player. Self-driven and results orientated in challenging rural working environments.
    Experience in training at field/community level and excellent reporting skills. Excellence in English and Kiswahili, oral and written.
    A valid motorcycle riding licence and experience is an added advantage.
