    Major Responsibilities

    Project Planning and Implementation (50%)

    Lead implementation of an innovative Food security and Livelihoods Project, through community based systems, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of society;
    Implement operational work plans in accordance with the budget, results framework and administrative guidelines approved by the Project Steering Committee (PSC);
    Under the guidance of the Project manager, ensure the Project operates efficiently and effectively;
    Participate in budget processes and periodic budget reviews for Food security, Livelihoods and Resilience, Economic Development related activities;
    Stay abreast of new developments in Food security and Livelihoods and participate actively in related technical working groups and forums;
    Provide technical assistance in the areas of agricultural/ livestock productivity, seed systems and agricultural/livestock value chains
    Coordinate the adoption of new products and/or approaches in Food security integrating nutrition and Livelihoods development and marketing;
    Implement decisions made by the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and the County Project Steering Committee (CPSC);
    Select intervention sites, expansion areas (new) project partners based on set criteria by the county and after consultation with all stakeholders;
    Technical support to the project team in launching tenders and calls for proposal; contract service providers and implementing entities;
    Monitor progress of work plan implementation, identifying issues (technical and coordination) and formulate solutions to address the identified issues and;
    Monitor compliance of all contract service providers, consultants and implementing entities contracted by the project team

    Quality Assurance: Design, Monitoring & Evaluation (25%)

    Ensure development and roll out of County Project, policies, guidelines and strategies.
    Participate in formulation of food security and livelihoods related guidelines, regulations and plans for IMARA operations at the county level;
    In consultation with the Project manager, develop operational work plans (AOPs) and detailed implementation plans (DIPs) in accordance with the budget, results framework, and administrative guidelines approved by the Project Steering Committee (PSC);
    In consultation with the Project manager and MEAL Officer develop a MEAL plan for the Livelihood activities in the Project and actively participate in all project design, monitoring and evaluation initiatives
    Lead in development of a contextual analysis of economic policy, food and nutrition security and livelihoods issues affecting the county and particularly the target groups;
    Participate in the county development of detailed food and nutrition security and livelihoods strategy that aligns with the county integrated development plans.
    Support the IMARA project manager and MEAL officer to develop annual learning agenda, data analysis from the field and producing customized reports for various applications/interventions.
    Support the County Project Steering Team in compiling monthly, semi-annual and annual reports to be provided to the Secretariat that summarizes Project achievements, key challenges, lessons learned to date and detailing budget expenditures and investment plans from all stakeholders.

    Capacity Building (10%)

    Facilitate training needs identification for community producer and S4T groups, county staff and other public and private partners;
    Facilitate capacity building for the producer groups, S4T groups, county staff and other public and private partners and;
    Organize for Project staff to participate in relevant FS and Livelihood trainings.

    Program Networking (10%)

    Strengthen Program linkages and foster good working relations with consortium peers, civil society organizations, government representatives, private sector and community based organizations;
    Identify and document strategic needs/agenda for country engagement
    Respond to queries from Program donors and stakeholders in a timely and sound manner on all Food Security and Livelihood related issues from the county

    Others (5%)

    Attend and participate/ lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
    Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

    The following may be acquired through a combination of formal and prior experience or on-the-job training:

    A degree in Agriculture and Extension, Agronomy, Dryland Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Production, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, or any other related discipline.
    At least 4 years’ experience in designing, planning, implementing, supervising and reporting on integrated Food security in ASAL, Livelihoods and Resilience Program
    A broad grasp of socio – economic policy issues with respect to food and nutrition security , and livelihood development in rural and ASAL settings
    Technical knowledge and facilitation skills in Food security, Livestock and other Livelihoods, Value Chain Development, Savings Groups, Social Protection, Gender issues and Environment
    Experience in working with consortium partners, county governments, civil society, donors and local communities;

    Role Summary:
    Reporting to the Country Manager – Kenya, the Program Officer Systems Agronomist in Regenerative and Sustainable Agriculture will represent AGRA in the country and will manage and provide technical direction on investments to improve the following systems:  Improved agronomic practices, regenerative and sustainable farming, resilience, soil health, and landscape restoration. The ideal candidate will contribute to the other thematic areas in AGRA such as strengthening input distribution systems through the generation, codifying and dissemination of key knowledge products across in the focus counties in Kenya and, and AGRA in general. 
    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Scope and identify opportunities for collaboration with key stakeholders in Kenya. 
    Create road maps documenting the resources and constraints to agricultural transformation, especially in the areas of regenerative agriculture.

    Academic, Professional Qualifications and Relevant experience:

    Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Food Systems, Climate change and resilience, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture Economics, Agronomy, and extension in Africa.
    Experience in managing complex, multisectoral initiatives in the non-profit, private and/or public sector with a sound knowledge of, and experience in agricultural development at national, regional and/or international level.

    Accountabilities

    Direct people responsibility: Responsible for the supervision and giving direction to all direct reports who will include, Production Leads and Senior Supervisors.
    Responsible for growing plants: Growing the PS1, PS2 and PS mother stock and eventual production of quality cuttings using the best possible balance between cost and quality. Ensuring optimal plant growth regulator application for production of the agreed profile and toning the cuttings.

    Production Planning: Translate the required demands coming from planning into a production plan for the season and ensure expected availability. Evaluate the potential of the plants and translate it into data in order to provide precise calculations for the production plan. Season Production planning includes space planning, PS1 URC quantity planning and ordering, PS1 and PS2 planting planning and execution and required material planning.
    Season Labor planning: In co-ordination with the Labor Planner/HRM, budget and request to hire seasonal labor based on production operations demand. Strict follow-up of the labor forecast and control on deviations to avoid any financial exposure and lose of cost control.
    People management: Responsible for building a strong and trusting team which is agile, training and motivation of all personnel reporting to you. You will understand process critical parameters and develop appropriate KPI and target setting for your department and manage them to meet QUOTIF. (Yield and quality) at lowest possible price.

    About this role
    We are looking for a Digital Agriculture Manager to lead the effort to digitalise Better Cotton’s approach to field data. The project will include the coordination of updating data collection requirements, and testing and rolling out digital data collection tools in close collaboration with Better Cotton country teams and Programme Partners. The digitalised approach to field data will aim to improve data quality, lessen burdens on Better Cotton and Programme Partner field staff time spent in data collection and cleaning, add value for key stakeholders including cotton farmers, and maximise process efficiency.
    This role joins Better Cotton’s Data and Traceability team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning and matrix reporting to the Senior Manager of IT and Data. The position holder will work closely with teams across the organisation. The role will not include line management initially but instead focus on matrix and project working relationships.
    The Manager will deliver a step change in the way Better Cotton and its partners collect and ultimately gain insights from the critical field data collected at scale in a variety of farming contexts globally.     Responsibilities

    Determine Better Cotton’s approach to data collection – identify, test, and roll out solution(s)
    Operationalise digital data and information collection from field-level. Likely this will not take the form of one tool, but many, depending on context. Existing tools used by Programme Partners are to be incorporated into the approach to enable localised technology solutions (mapping of this in larger programme countries is ongoing and will be provided to the incoming manager)
    Ensure data collection tools can feed into a central analysis point supported by the current Better Cotton cloud-based data warehouse
    Ensure data collection tools follow good practice in data governance, including clarifying the processes of obtaining informed consent from data owners
    Enable reporting or feedback loop to Better Cotton Growth & Innovation Fund (GIF) and donors (as relevant)

    The Manager will work with various Better Cotton teams to ensure success. Illustrative examples follow of the kind of coordination and engagement expected:

    Country Teams – Field level coordination between Better Cotton Programme teams and Programme Partners to identify relevant tools and approaches that respond to national-specific issues: languages, locally relevant project information, specific rollout plan.
    Global Programme Team – Build feedback loops to IPs, field staff, and farmers to improve programme delivery and to add value for farmers. Also, enable effective oversight of Better Cotton-funded programme activities.
    Global Assurance Team – Collecting data around compliance with the Standard and continuous improvement objectives.
    Global MEL Team – Provide Data Analysts with information that enables the development of technical requirements to link to the Cotton Cloud, Better Cotton’s cloud database. In coordination with the Data Quality Coordinator, develop technical requirements to check data quality as live data is coming in. And with MEL team, ensure the data collection approach aligns with plans for global and localised indicators.
    IT-Data Team – Together with the Data Services Manager, ensure adequate data governance and compliance. With the Senior Manager of IT & Data, ensure proposed solutions are in line with Better Cotton’s IT & Data enterprise strategy.
    Traceability Team – Explore whether farm-level data needed for the identified traceability solution(s) can be managed via the same tool(s) as for other field-level data.

    This role works closely with the following, Head of Agribusiness, Maltsters EAML Staff, Outsources Service Providers, Farmers, Aggregators, Farmer Groups, Research Officers, Government Agencies, Kenya Revenue Authority Officials and Agro-chemical companies. The role also coordinates with County Governments, Security personnel, Contractors, Transporters and Agricultural Officers.
    Market Complexity:
    In sorghum, there is a high demand for high quality white sorghum to be used in the value for money beer segment that must be produced within the stipulated legal framework to comply with traceability and local sourcing requirements.
    This role will require the management and coordination of multiple players in the value chain i.e small scale growers, aggregators, transporters, NGO and inputs suppliers in order to achieve success.  
    In Barley, there is high competition for good farms and farmers. There are new players in the market creating challenges in managing growers to deliver as per contracts
    Navigating difficult terrain and travelling long distances to reach the farms where barley/sorghum is grown.
    Leadership Responsibilities:
    This position works within the Agricultural team, Grain aggregators, Farmers and is responsible for ensuring farmers produce Sorghum, Barley and Seed Barley.
    Purpose of Role:

    To engage growers, aggregators and farmer groups to produce high quality Sorghum, within the stipulated legal framework to comply with traceability and local sourcing requirements in order to meet the brewing requirements of EABL.
    To engage Barley and Seed Barley growers to supply high quality Maltable sorghum  

    Top Accountabilities

    Recruit adequate farmers and suitable land to ensure delivery of agreed sorghum and or malting barley quantities.

    SCOPE OF WORK

    The Thematic Lead will provide leadership on the theme of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices and technologies, Sustainable Finance, bundling of CSA practices and technologies with Climate Information Services and Sustainable Finance and be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of activities related to this theme.
    The duties and responsibilities of the Thematic Lead will include, among others:
    Provide scientific leadership for planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting of the project’s agenda related to CSA technologies and practices, bundling and sustainable finance.
    Ensure overall Theme coherence and deliver on the Theme targets and outcomes. This includes responsibility for:
    Coordination of Theme activities among CGIAR Centres and relevant partners
    Coherence of the Theme workplan, annual planning, reporting and budget
    Providing technical backstopping of Theme activities to ensure quality of outputs and outcomes (reviews of the P&R, checking budgets, supporting inter-Center discussions and planning).
    To provide guidance and oversight on monitoring and evaluation on the project.
    To keep in close contact with the Regional and country Leads to ensure that the Theme research activities in each region contribute to the overall achievements of the Project and that strong synergies are build.
    Establish high quality and high-profile scientific outputs, ensuring its regular delivery
    Provide support to the AICCRA leadership team to foster synthesis work
    Oversee and execute fund raising actions for the Theme
    Ensure the implementation of good internal communication on all Theme activities and meetings team so that other AICCRA core team members, appropriate country and regional leaders are familiar with the various plans in the Flagship.

    REPORTING LINE/COMMUNICATION

    The Thematic Lead shall report to the Project Coordinator of AICCRA.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    A PhD degree or MSc degree plus appropriate experience in a discipline relevant to policies and institutions for scaling CSA.
    At least 10 years’ experience in agricultural research for development in areas relevant to AICCRA (e.g. climate smart agriculture, scaling agricultural innovations, enabling conditions for agricultural development, policies and institutions, monitoring and evaluation)
    Extensive regional experience (min. 10 years) of working in Africa.
    Broad working experience (min. 10 years) at international organizations.
    Proven experience and skills in managing projects and partnerships.
    Proven capacity to work across multiple stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations (CSOs), local communities, and the private sector.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Written and oral communication in French an added advantage.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    An officer at this level may be based at the Headquarters as the Head of Technical Division and will assist the respective Chief Officer in the day to day administration and management of the department.
    Duties and responsibilities will involve:-

    implementation of strategic plan; coordinate the setting of performance targets;
    handling technical, administrative, human resource, budgetary and assets management issues; and
    standards of the division in consultation with the Chief Officer. Other duties and responsibilities will depend on the mandate of the specific department and will entail;
    policy formulation, interpretation and implementation; negotiation, legislation and domestication of the relevant MEAs and related processes;
    conceptualization, development, implementation and monitoring of environmental and Natural Resource projects, programmes, and strategic initiatives;
    rehabilitation, restoration and conservation of river basin and other riparian ecosystems

    Additionally, an Officer at this level may be deployed as the Head of Technical Division and will assist the respective Chief Officer in the day to day administration and management of the department including:

    Liaising with county governments on environment and natural resources;
    Supervising, developing and implementing programmes and projects;
    Coordinating regional and international negotiation process on Environmental matters and related processes;
    Coordinating preparation of country position papers, speeches and interventions;
    Undertaking capacity building activities;
    Coordinating the development and implementation of environmental policy, legislation and related statues;
    Coordinating preparation and implementation of work plans and performance contract target setting;
    Coordinating the development and implementation of strategic plans;
    Participating in the development and implementation of strategic plan;
    Respond to Parliamentary issues;
    Developing, publishing and disseminating national strategies on coordination, domestication and implementation of MEAs;
    Participate in International Environmental governance;
    Creation and promotion of strategic partnerships as well as Public Private Partnerships;
    Coordinating financial and technical resource mobilization;
    Overseeing staff appraisal;
    Coordinating the domestication and implementation of MEAs;
    Coordinating development of project concept notes;
    Coordinating the development and management of environmental and natural resources information system;
    Monitoring environmental and Natural resources projects and programmes;
    Coordinating rehabilitation, restoration and conservation of river basins;

    Supporting the County Governments in design and implementation of environmental programs and projects with a view to developing County level master plans on strategic environmental programs;
