    OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
    The objective of this consultancy is to facilitate training to the staff of the selected Financial Service Providers (FSPs) on Agri-value chain and Green financing.
    SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
    The objectives of the consultancy are to:

    Development of training modules on agriculture value chain and green financing
    Undertaking necessary training to the staff of the selected financial institutions on agricultural and green financing
    Building the internal capacity (skill set) among staff of the selected FSPs to better serve small holder farmers and other value chain players.
    Enhancing the knowledge base of FSPs in understanding the basics of Agronomy and Agricultural Gross margin analysis concepts
    Enhancing risk management strategies within FSPs in Agricultural and green financing
    Promoting models and mechanism for green financing within the financial sector.
    Enhancing internal capacities of selected FSPs in undertaking monitoring and evaluation to track the efficiency, social impact, and success of the Agri value chain financing.

    SCOPE OF WORKS
    Working closely with financial institutions management and MESPT credit and Business development manager, the consultant will be required to conduct a 5-day classroom set up training for staff from identified financial institutions on Agri and Green transformation lending skills.
    The course will be open to technical staff of the identified financial institutions.
    The consultant is expected to use innovative approaches in developing and delivering the course to cater for audiences with differing levels of experience and knowledge.
    The Training is expected to focus on but not limited to:

    Understanding the Principles and key approaches of Agri Value Chain Financing
    Explore opportunities to introduce or expand Agri value chain finance.
    Opportunities and risk mitigation through agricultural value chain finance. Demonstration of financial interconnectivity within value chains and why financiers avoid agricultural financing.
    Development of skills for identifying and maximizing on financing opportunities across the Agri-value chains.
    Agricultural value chain financing mechanism-Contract farming, off-taker agreements Lead firm/farmer financing, Input supplier credit facilities, receivable discounting among other mechanisms.
    Importance of green financing and models to facilitate green financing focusing on domestic/household, farm, and enterprise level utilization.
    Flexible Agri and Green credit modelling, structuring-terms, conditions, pricing, collection models, covenants, collateral arrangement among others. What are key considerations in loan structuring – value chain cashflow cycle, market availability, development stage among others.
    Individual verses group credit analysis in Agricultural Value Chain Lending Mechanism. Investment analysis, production, yield and income analysis among others.
    Risk management models in Agricultural Value Chain lending including technical support/ business development services, de-risking solutions, among others.
    Loan monitoring and recovery using Agricultural Value Chain lending Mechanisms (recovery through Co-operative Societies, Lead Farmer and Market facilitator etc). this should include importance for social, environmental monitoring.
    Data collection skills and management by use of standard monitoring and evaluation tools and processes.

    METHODOLOGY
    It is recommended that for maximum value generation for this assignment, the consultant will adopt participatory approach that includes use of practical case studies and theories within the contemporary agricultural setup.
    The consultant is expected to provide a detailed practical methodology, detailed curriculum and training plan/schedule
    ASSIGNMENT TIMELINES
    The assignment will commence immediately after signing the contract with MESPT. The actual training will be carried out in a maximum of 5 (five) with additional three days for preparatory and reporting. During implementation of this assignment, periodic briefing to Credit and Business Development Manager will be appreciated.
    CONSULTANT REQUIREMENTS

    In-depth knowledge and experience in Microfinance finance, Agricultural/ Agri value chain finance, Climate/Green finance, Development finance, financial inclusion, Enterprise development and/or Agricultural Value Chain Development
    Demonstrated understanding of concepts for financial and inclusive finance and value chain approaches.
    In-depth experience in undertaking trainings to staff of financial institutions more so for agricultural and green financing models. Evidence of 3 similar assignments for the past 4 years.
    In-depth Knowledge of credit and finance risk analysis and management.
    Master’s degree in relevant field- (Agricultural Economics, Business Management, and development) and 5 years relevant technical experience (Training programs)
    Certification of National Industrial Training Authority, International Labor Organization (ILO) will be an added advantage

    INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT
    The Consultant(s) will work under the direct supervision of the Credit & Business Development Manager to adapt and deliver the consultancy appropriately to meet MESPT expectations. During his/her assignment, the consultant will be provided with all necessary information.

    Interviews with industry associations conducting KS 1758 Roll out (FPEAK, FPC and RETRAK). Also, the roles of HCD and KEPHIS in enforcing and set up systems in support of KS1758 regulatory framework
    Administration of questionnaire to FPEAK trained market actors addressing perceptions on meeting the standards and process.
    Interviews with pilot organizations (Crowne Plaza, Beyond Fruits and Kongowea Market) to document the process followed in certification, the costs, and opportunities in use of the certification for business.
    Report writing and presentation

    Qualifications

    A Bachelor’s degrees in agriculture or any relevant field with good understanding of food safety, and horticulture certification systems

    About This Role

    What You Will Do

You may work in conjunction with several departments to become well informed on M&E practices and to execute well planned strategies in the field.
    Field Sleuthing: Obtain data from the field in order to substantiate, verify or amend in-house information systems
    Thinning and Marking of Komaza Woodlots: Execute the thinning and marking strategy of Komaza as outlined in the thinning and marking SOP
    Spot Checking / Auditing: Assisting departments in determining accuracy of operations, reporting and potentially uncovering events in the field.
    Forestry Exercises: Obtain metrics on trees and farms including tree diameters, heights, and quality. These exercises may be a standard sampling routine or a more focused, full inventory evaluation
    Reporting: Capture and record accurate data for reporting purposes.

    What You Have

    Diploma in a technical field and environment will be an added advantage or having a polytechnic certification
    At least 3 years of field-based experience in wood harvesting, forestry or agroforestry

    Purpose Of Position

    Major Responsibilities

    50%-Project Planning and Implementation

    Lead implementation of an innovative Food security and Livelihoods Project, through community-based systems, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of society;
    In consultation with the Project manager, develop operational work plans (AOPs) and detailed implementation plans (DIPs) in accordance with the budget, results framework, and administrative guidelines approved by the Project Steering Committee (PSC);
    Implement operational work plans in accordance with the budget, results framework and administrative guidelines approved by the Project Steering Committee (PSC);
    Under the guidance of the Project manager, ensure the Project operates efficiently and effectively;
    Participate in budget processes and periodic budget reviews for Food security, Livelihoods and Resilience, Economic Development related activities;
    Provide technical assistance in the areas of resilience and diversified livelihoods; sustainable income from climate smart resilient value chains; production, productivity and post-harvest practices; climate resilient value chains; inclusive access to markets and farm inputs, other agri-enterprise services as well as access to gender inclusive financial services among households

    20%-Quality assurance: Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

    Participate in formulation of food security and livelihoods related guidelines, regulations and plans for CAM Project operations at the county level;
    In consultation with the Project manager and MEAL Officer develop a MEAL plan for the Livelihood activities in the Project and actively participate in all project design, monitoring and evaluation initiatives
    Lead in development of a contextual analysis of economic policy, food and nutrition security and livelihoods issues affecting the county and particularly the target groups;
    Participate in the county development of detailed food and nutrition security and livelihoods strategy that aligns with the county integrated development plans
    Support the CAM project manager and MEAL officer to develop annual learning agenda, data analysis from the field and producing customized reports for various applications/interventions and;
    Support the County Project Steering Team in compiling monthly, semi-annual and annual reports to be provided to the Secretariat that summarizes Project achievements, key challenges, lessons learned to date and detailing budget expenditures and investment plans from all stakeholders.
    Monitor compliance of all contract service providers, consultants and implementing entities contracted by the project team.

    10%-Capacity Building:

    Facilitate training needs identification for community producer, saving groups, cooperatives, county staff and other public and private partners;
    Facilitate capacity building of producer groups and other value chain actors on climate resilient marketing and value chain development
    Train farmers on climate smart production and post-harvest management practices
    Capacity building to enhance access to appropriate financial product/loans and business plan development

    15%-Advocacy, strategic partnerships, Networking and collaboration

    Strengthen Project linkages and foster good working relations with consortium peers, civil society organizations, government representatives, private sector and community-based organizations;
    Identify and document strategic needs/agenda for country engagement
    Respond to queries from Project donors and stakeholders in a timely and sound manner on all Food Security and Livelihood related issues from the county
    Forge strategic collaborations with financial service providers including MFIs, banks, government funds to ensure Savings groups members access financial services
    Broker linkages between farmers and market/value chain actors
    Available to represent CAM Project at critical functions and moments at the county level as needed;
    Stay abreast of new developments in Food security and Livelihoods and participate actively in related technical working groups and relevant policy forums
    Facilitate formation of collective units e.g. Cooperatives, CBOs, producer groups, Village Savings and Loans Associations for aggregation

    Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills For The Role

    A degree in Agriculture and Extension, Agronomy, Dryland Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Production, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, or any other related discipline.
    At least 4 years’ experience in designing, planning, implementing, supervising and reporting on integrated Food security in ASAL, Livelihoods and Resilience Project
    A broad understanding of socio – economic policy issues with respect to food and nutrition security, and livelihood development in rural and ASAL settings
    Technical knowledge and facilitation skills in Food security, Livestock and other Livelihoods, Value Chain Development, Savings Groups, Social Protection, Gender issues and Environment
    Experience in working with consortium partners, county governments, civil society, donors and local communities;
    Highly flexible and organized, able to coordinate government and private sector players for effective support and implementation of program interventions
    He /she must have ample experience in capacity building, public relations, be a strong team player and have good coordination skills
    Ability to design and conduct assessments, surveys, and information management
    Experience in working with partnerships, including county governments, civil society, donors and local community’s structures;

    Required skills and experience

    Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, horticulture or related agricultural sciences.
    At least three years’ professional experience – ideally in the private sector – in one or more of the following areas: coffee processing or agronomy; business or cooperative management; SME development; agriculture; training; extension services.
    Demonstrated good understanding of the Kenya coffee industry and especially the cooperatives sector.
    Possess an aptitude and skills for training adults in a field set up.
    Strong planning skills and ability to generate innovative solutions in highly dynamic work situations.
    Demonstrated ability to prepare and present well-written, cohesive analyses and reports.
    Strong interpersonal, collaborative and cross-cultural skills.
    Willingness to spend significant time in project implementation sites located in rural areas.
    Valid driving licence.
    Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

    Results Report

    Identify and document the results (and project ongoing) achieved contributing to the TOC of the UN Women Flagship Programme Women’s Economic Empowerment through Climate Smart Agriculture in 11 countries in ESA Region through desk reviews of relevant documents and through key informant interviews at country level (conducted remotely) capturing both qualitative and quantitative aspects. Results should be reported in a comprehensive narrative from a regional perspective drawing together the combined achievements of country offices and compiling any knowledge products and communications materials developed during the course of the implementation between 2018-2022). The result report will be no longer than 20 pages of text (not including preliminary pages or annexes).
    Elaborate key best practices for regional replication and scale-up.

    Proposal Development

    Draft a multi-country regional project document in line with UN Women guidelines targeting with interventions at regional, national, and sub-national level in collaboration with country office and regional office teams. The project document will include a theory of change and project interventions across all countries in ESA that are implementing CSA programming.
    The project document will be based on an analysis and assessment of interventions (summaries based on the regional results report, UN Women studies and in discussion with regional and country focal points) that will close the gender gaps in agriculture productivity in an environmentally sustainable manner and assess the prospects for women increased agricultural productivity, and climate resilient agriculture adaptation.
    The project document will build on identified synergies between the ongoing country programme initiatives of UN Women to expand women’s role in the agricultural sector
    Coordinate the process of validation, revision, and finalization of the draft documents.

    Deliverables

    Climate Smart Agriculture results report for the East and Southern Africa Region in English. The result report will be no longer than 20 pages of text (not including preliminary pages or annexes).
    Project Document package with an accompanying detailed budget and results framework prepared, validated with UN Women country office focal points and submitted to UN Women

    Required Skills and Experience

    A post graduate degree, in a relevant social sciences field such as social policy, development studies, gender studies, economics, agriculture, or another related field.

    Experience

    A minimum of five (5) years of experience in designing and managing implementation of climate change, agriculture and gender development projects in women’s economic empowerment with at least three years in resource mobilization.
    At least three years of work experience in East and Southern Africa.
    Experience in preparing logical, coherent, and consistent technical documents including log frames and budgets.
    Prior demonstrated experience in developing and writing proposals for institutional donors.
    Ability to integrate different experiences, methodologies, and approaches from a diverse range of stakeholders, organizations, and technical experts.
    Prior demonstrated experience in documenting results.

    Language Requirements

    Proficiency in written and spoken English.
