    About the Role
    One Acre Fund Kenya is transitioning from a startup to a mature operation – and we need staff members to continue our growth trajectory.
    The mandate of the Market Access team is to start up agribusinesses that work for smallholder farmers, focusing on high-value crops such as macadamia and avocados. As an Extension and Aggregation officer, you will work with Farmers and also a team of support workers. You will be reporting to the E & A coordinator in the Market Access team. The Extension and Aggregation Officer role is also an important role, as they are the connecting link between farmers and One Acre Fund, and on daily basis, they ensure that the farmers are trained, comply, and coordinate harvesting according to QMS rules.
    Responsibilities

    Develop knowledge of the standard market requirements
    Farmer training- Advising farmers on intervention methods to use on pests and diseases.
    Train Farmer groups in food safety and hygiene methods.
    Train Farmer groups in health safety methods.
    Record and maintain records of production as required by the Macadamia buying centre or Avocado QMS on behalf of the farmer groups.
    Carry out a time-to-time farm risk assessment and crop scouting.
    Prepare/Register farmers for the GGAP certification process.
    Conduct and ensure the smooth GGAP certification training, inspection and audit of all registered farmers.
    Create the reports to share with his/her supervisors to update operational movements.
    Develop his/her farmer base based on the given target for the given season.
    Work and improve the macadamia buying process in the assigned buying centres.

    Qualifications
    Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

    1+ years of work experience in an agricultural-related field.
    Knowledge of the avocado/ Macadamia value chain (e.g. fruit varieties, quality, seasonality) is appreciated

    Job Description

     Contribute in designing and implementation of digitally enabled and participatory agro-climate services by leveraging the previous expertise of the Alliance in Africa and other regions. This will require first understanding the different approaches to climate services at Alliance and elsewhere, documenting the needs of partners and users, and designing project activities that address those needs and build on previous work.
     Advance the area of agro-climate services for the Alliance in Africa, ensuring timely delivery of project outputs, and contributing to coordinating activities across relevant projects.
     Guarantee an effective, efficient, and responsible development and deployment of climate-informed advisory services and develop and test innovative ideas that leverage digital technologies to scale CIS.
     Engage in bilateral fundraising activities in the area of agro-climate services.
     Design and implement training workshops to colleagues and project partners, including for building climate literacy, developing better forecast systems, amongst others.
     Continue to build and nurture key partnerships in Africa with key partners including Meteorological Services, Digital Partners, Farmer Organizations, and other CGIAR centers.
     Contribute to technical discussions with partners and develop roadmaps for CIS activity implementation.
     Coordinate activities internally at the Alliance and CGIAR, and stay up to date on activities of key partners (e.g., IRI), as well as on new methods and approaches to CIS
     Contribute and lead reporting, and scientific paper writing.

    Requirements

     PhD/Masters level studies (on agriculture, climate sciences, agrometeorology, or related fields), and demonstrated experience of at least 2 years (for PhD) or 5 years (for Masters) working in the field of CIS.
     Extensive experience, training, and knowledge in agrometeorology, climate science, and/or climate services for agriculture.
     Experience in the design and application of participatory methods for CIS needs assessment, and CIS design and implementation at the field scale.
     Experience in designing and deploying CIS systems either through participatory, or digital means, or both. Working knowledge of seasonal forecast tools such as NextGen is a plus.
     Extensive experience of handling and processing gridded weather and climate data.
     Experience working with partners from academia, NGOs, CGIAR centers, and meteorological services
     Knowledge and experience on climate prediction and/or on the use of climate predictions to inform decision making.
     Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. French would be a plus.
     Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary efforts and work with stakeholders (both internally and externally) with emphasis in CIS
     Experience working in an international context and interacting with stakeholders across disciplines and (desirably) countries.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    To understand the Tea sector setup and key players in the tea value chain in the mentioned countries
    To Identify smallholders’ organisation structure from the grassroots to the apex levels and understand how they are networked and the level of collaboration with other actors nationally, regionally, and globally on addressing market barriers and policy issues.
    Identify the capacities of existing farmer’s organisations, specifically on the strengths and weaknesses of addressing market barriers and policy issues in both countries.
    Assess smallholders’ organisation Leadership and Governance structure with rapid assessment on inclusion.
    Identify and advise the areas where TT can collaborate/support farmer’s organisations in market barriers, policy, and climate change issues in the countries.

    This consultancy is to assist Transform Trade to:

    Scope of work.

    Stakeholder consultations, to identify key players in the tea value chain and their role in Kenya and Tanzania.
    Prepare smallholder apex tea organization’s needs assessment and advice on the areas of support /collaboration according to TT strategy.
    In collaboration with farmers, organisations identify the key market barriers, climate change, and policy issues which affect farmers’ tea business.
    Recommend ways of improving farmers’ organisational leadership and Governance and leaders’ capacities for a collective voice for better business returns in the value chain.
    Recommend ways on strengthen inclusion of women and PWD in farmer organization’s leadership
    Prepare a draft framework document that will define the process and guide the preparation of a standard action plan (SAP) on how best farmers’ organisation can identify and mitigates market barriers, climate change and policy issues.

    Expected outputs.

    A document that captures the tea sector structure with critical players in the value chain and their roles in countries.
    Report on smallholder farmers’ organisation leadership and Governance structure, organisation’s capacities, areas of engagement/support, and organization needs.
    Plan on how to strengthen farmer’s organizational leadership and Governance, including a section on strengthening women and PWDs in leadership an

     Minimum qualifications and skills required: The service provider must:

    We are looking for a Head of Agronomy who will be responsible for ensuring the maximization of crop production and quality. The role involves continual data collection and the regular performance of trials. Special care must also be taken to ensure soil health and to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural practices carried out on the farm.
     All activities on the farm and in the processing/storage facilities must be compliant with the World Health Organization’s Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP) as well as with any National standards; this means that the head of agronomy and plant health will be responsible for making sure all field activities are in-line with the GACP guidelines. Is also responsible for contributing towards organic, UEBT, and other, external certifications.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    Working alongside Senior Management to create and implement efficient and effective plans for planting, weeding, and harvesting.
    Monitoring all crops to ensure maximum plant health, thus resulting in highest possible quality and yield.
    Reacting quickly and creatively to issues arising in the crops.

    Perform constant trials to find ways to improve the production of all crops on the farm.
    Ensure that all crop inputs are ordered and delivered on time. Assist in the procurement of inputs with an aim to reduce expenditure.
    Supervise the production and on-time delivery of seedlings so that all planting material is received on time and in perfect health.
    Work with laboratories, testing facilities and consultants to continually improve plant and soil health.
     Supervise, train and promote field workers.
    Ensure that the production facility and documentation is always up to national, UEBT, Organic and GACP standards.
    Co-ordinate farm activities with suppliers, propagators and transporters.

    Qualifications

    Education (degree, diploma) in Agronomy, crop science or agriculture.
    Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in agronomy.
    Experience in an industry with quality requirements. Preferably with experience in an organization that has been certified in organic production, Rainforest Alliance, UEBT, GACP, etc.
    Experience from a commercial established farm.
