    The Agriculture Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be responsible for advising the project delivery team on the technical aspects of the Agtech projects. The SME acts as a repository of authoritative information. Functionally, the SME will be responsible for looking at images and videos of plants and crops and identifying the health and productivity of those plants. We use a number of software tools to do this work, and we use these efforts to help improve agricultural technology for our clients.
    Job Description

    Provide technical leadership on agriculture-related projects;
    Develop training materials for labelers working on the agriculture project;
    Review and update customer instructions and make recommendations for revisions/clarifications;
    Assist with training the labelers;
    Work closely with the senior SME, QA, and PM to provide technical guidance as needed;
    Review of output before submission to the customer and flag any issues to the DDD team ahead of deliveries;
    Documentation of project-related material and knowledge transfer to the project teams

    Qualifications

    A degree in agriculture, agribusiness, plant science, horticulture, biology, environmental sciences, or a related field is required;
    A minimum of 3 years of experience in agriculture;
    Work experience – Potentially at the management level and has worked with a diversity of crops;
    Strong communication, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills;
    Excellent time management skills;
    Professional proficiency in written and spoken English required

    JOB PURPOSE
    The project assistant will support in the implementation of Livestock and agriculture activities of the Strengthening Community Resilience and Economic Empowerment Programme (SHEEP Project) in Garissa County.              
    Overall, Purpose
    The Project Assistant Agriculture will assist in the implementation of Livestock and agriculture activities of the Strengthening Community Resilience and Economic Empowerment Programme (SHEEP Project in Garissa County. He/she will directly report to the Project Officer-Livestock and Agriculture
    Key Responsibilities

    Responsible for the overall field coordination, management & implementation of the Livestock and agriculture intervention
    Livestock and agriculture programme activities are implemented according to the annual work plan while maintaining the flexibility to shift priorities according to the changing context.
    Identify the groups and clients, their capacity building and training needs, particularly in the area’s livestock and agriculture production.
    Document community and stakeholders’ feedback and share with relevant stakeholders for appropriate action.
    Regular monitoring and evaluation of project implementation at field Level.
    Prepare and submit monthly quarterly and annual work plans.
    Prepare and submit timely monthly, quarterly, annually narrative, and financial reports.
    Ensure key lessons and best practices from the project are documented and shared with all key stakeholders.
    Provide technical support to the project for their sustainability by developing linkages and network.
    Formulate plans to provide trainings needed at various levels and different phases of the project and support to conduct training.
    Supervise and monitor groups & project training on regular basis to ensure that activities are conducted as planned.
    Prepare a monthly progress report detailing the activities performed during the month, highlighting achievements, and making recommendations for future activities.
    Supporting and keeping track of day-to-day activities implementation at the selected sites.
    Preparation of weekly project implementation plans/acceleration plans
    Ensure timely implementation of project activities as per the work plan budgetary, standards and procedures.
    Ensure filling of project documents in accordance with IRK policy and procedures.
    Ensure that livestock production & health activities that enable to promote the livestock products and marketing and this would create more income for communities.
    Ensure the preparation and implementation of the work plan activities, including M&E activities, meetings & visits of the project area conduct timely in coordination with the Field coordinator and MEAL officer
    Facilitate consultation, participation and feedback to the community in relation to Islamic relief program and policies
    Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and Do No Harm and ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
    Fulfil any additional assignment as deem necessary by the organization and/or as assigned by Line manager.

    Qualifications/Experience/Skills

    Minimum Qualification required:  Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Animal husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Rural development, or other relevant fields of study.
    Required experience in Agribusiness with at least 3 years of humanitarian work, UN, or Government Institutions
    Membership of  Agriculture institutions in kenya is an added advantage.
    Ability to work on your own initiative as well as a part of a team.
    Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
    Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing (both in English and Kiswahili, local language will be an added advantage)
    Effective IT Skills (Microsoft Office).
    Communication, tact, and negotiation skills.
    Conceptual understanding of participatory approach and sustainable development
    Conflict resolution and Problem-solving skills. 

    Desirable

    Knowledge of local or Kiswahili language.
    Willing to travel to the remote areas.
    Sympathetic with aims, values & objectives of Islamic Relief.
    Knowledge of computer package, such as excel, word, PPT etc.

    Entry Requirements

    Must be a Kenyan citizen;
    Must have a National Identification Card;
    Minimum of D+ (Plus) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (Examination result slips SHALL NOT be accepted);
    Be aged between eighteen (18) and twenty-eight (28) years;
    Be of 5.6 ft (men) and 5.3ft (women) in height;
    Be physically and medically fit;
    Female candidates should not be pregnant before recruitment and during training and;
    Have a valid Clearance Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

    In addition, successful candidates will be required to:

    Undergo further medical check-up at the Forest Law Enforcement Academy;

    Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

    About the role:
    The Senior Associate supports both the advisory and research arms of Busara by leading the execution of Busara projects.
    As the primary project manager and technical lead for all external Busara projects, a Senior Associate quickly gains an expert understanding of the project, challenges, relationships, and research questions and uses best practices and tools, both within and outside Busara to execute to the highest degree, with careful consideration of timelines and budget.  They view research problems with a behavioural lens and have good intuition about potential barriers and levers, while drawing on problem-specific and general behavioral science knowledge.
    The Senior Associate works directly with clients and partners and takes ownership of the overall project and its end products. 
    The Senior Associate directly manages and effectively coordinates other project staff that work on their project as well as liaise with other Busara teams. This includes strong upward management skills to engage the Project Division’s vice presidents on substantive components of the project.
    The Senior Associate works closely with Busara leaders  and  directly with  researchers, clients and partners  to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
    Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
    Research Design and Execution

    Design high-quality qualitative, quantitative or experimental research, which takes into account key sampling, instrument, research integrity and ethics, analysis and interventions considerations on a variety of internal and external projects.
    Incorporate behavioral science into research projects. 
    Leads the design and the iteration of prototypes.
    Execute the core project responsibilities with the highest degree with respect to creativity, rigor, relevance, detail, and timeliness.

    Project Oversight and Leadership

    Maintain an understanding of the high-level engagement, the goals of the clients, partners, and teams within Busara, and continually push the project teams to realign around those goals.

    Demonstrated success using facilitation in at least one of the following: the USAID value chain approach, M4P, or Market Systems Development approach, which led to greater competitiveness and inclusiveness in markets
    Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines.
    Prior work experience in countries in East Africa. Experience working in Kenya strongly preferred.
    Excellent oral and written presentation skills as well as collaboration and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications:
