    Purpose:
    The role of the FSL Project Assistant will be to carry out community assessments to identify needs, technical surveys, liaise with the County Departments and implement group training on Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), livestock management, financial skills, group dynamics etc. and emergency intervention where required. Ensure linkage, synergies and complementarity with other sectoral interventions, i.e. Nutrition, WASH as well as proper coordination, consultation and information sharing with partners.
    Represent Action Against Hunger in all coordination at the county and sub-county level, collaborate with other implementing partners, INGO, UN bodies and the local communities to ensure successful implementation of project activities without duplication and resource wastage and smooth running of the projects.
    Engagement:

    Work in collaboration with the communities, local leaders, elders and local authorities at all stages of project implementation and represent Action Against Hunger towards partners at the field level when necessary: NGOs, local authorities, UN bodies and community representation (elders, chiefs etc).
    Collaborate with senior FSL Officer, Program Manager, all Project officers and other department field teams to contribute to defining technical strategy when required to ensure the projects are integrated.

    Delivery:

    Work with the Senior FSL Officer to prepare progress reports, quarterly donor reports, proposals development, Program reports and project procurement plan and contributes to survey reports
    Compile program reports on a timely basis in liaison with other program staff; Weekly SitRep, Monthly (statistical and narrative), Quarterly and annual donor reports.

    Essential job functions

    In coordination with the FSL Senior Project Officer, M&E officer and county teams, participate in the design and conduct all baseline assessments, surveys, and follow-up assessments
    Ensure that all beneficiaries and assessment data are kept organized and in an accessible manner
    To establish a positive and cohesive working relationship with the community and direct beneficiaries of the project and strive to listen particularly women beneficiaries inputs
    To support the County government to clearly understand the objectives, requirements and provisions of the projects
    To improve the participation of the beneficiaries in the decision-making process through management committees, appointed leaders, regular information sessions and administrative structures
    Support the county teams train and monitor food security activities in the field
    Create linkages with women groups to financial institutions, farmers associations, cooperatives, social services and private partnerships etc.
    To ensure the effective implementation of monitoring of activities in the area of operation:
    By working closely with the Senior FSL Program Officer, regularly monitor and evaluate Food Security and Livelihoods projects performance and provide timely inputs, feedback and impact of the ACF Food Security and Livelihoods interventions
    Establish a positive and cohesive working relationship with the community and direct beneficiaries of the project
    Document human interest stories and lessons learnt on a quarterly basis

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    FSL Project Assistant position has no reporting line to manage

    Fiscal Responsibility

    Prepare cash forecast in liaison with the other Project Officer in line with the work plans
    Ensure the expenditure is as stipulated in the budget lines and strict adherence to the budget limits
    Propose anticipated budget realignment in discussion with Project Officer
     In liaison with the Project Officer, monitor budget spending in line with spending plan; ensure diligence in grants utilization including timely spending and value for money.
    Support the Project Officer in monthly budget reviews and suggesting amendments to the finance team

    Physical Demands

     While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to travel for long distance in the community therefore require being flexible, work under pressure and work beyond working hours.

    Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

    The duties of the job require regular job attendance for five days per week with eight hours per day however, due to nature of programs, may be required to work longer hours and over the weekends.
    Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic based on the office needs. While visiting the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well is to infectious diseases.
    Must therefore adhere to measures put in place to reduce the risks, including COVID-19 infection prevention and control measures.

    Required Qualifications and Professional Experience

    Experience from county/national government and INGO sectors is an advantage.
    Knowledge of main donor requirements including UNICEF, ECHO, USAID, EU, Private donors etc.

    Required Skills & Competencies

    2 years’ experience in a similar position.
    Previous experience in Arid and Semi-Arid lands of Kenya
    Computer skills with excellence in Microsoft Excel and Word
    Good level of spoken and written English and Swahili. Local language is an asset
    Ability to work under minimal supervision and have impact on input on program indicators
    Demonstrate capacity in constructively engaging local authorities and local partners.

    Purpose of the role
    The holder of the role will act as an advisor to farmers and conduct soil experiments and make recommendations on the best possible crop to grow while utilising their extensive knowledge on agriculture and crop science. They will be charged with crop data collection and interpretation with the aim to offer well informed recommendations. The aim of the interaction with the farmers is to build good working relationships by offering agricultural support while creating a great customer experience while focusing on business development and growth. The goal is improvement of crop outcomes and assisting farmers realise a good return on farm investment by optimal use of IOT devices and the farm management dashboard.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide appropriate and targeted technical advice or assistance to farmers with training on Good Agricultural Practises (GAP) to maximise yield and ensure the quality of produce is not compromised.
    Develop and apply training methods and curriculum appropriate to the needs of the midsize farmers and evaluation of their training effectiveness
    Communicate effectively about the company’s farmer development model, plans etc. to farmers, project stakeholders and the wider public in order to advance its vision and mission.
    Provide great after-sales support to farmers and practise a sound customer retention strategy
    Keep updated records, prepare reports that pertain to field work and interpret the same to come up with case-appropriate recommendations
    Ensure strong communication and coordination with all stakeholders as well as providing appropriate reports to drive business reporting
    Provide support to farmer/farmer groups on the most appropriate climate integration strategies, which enhance income of producers and agribusinesses
    Interpret soil and water test results to farmers and advise accordingly on the best farm inputs for use on the farm and crops.
    Create and build sales distribution channels by partnering with agro dealers and agro enterprises across Kenya.
    Manage and oversee sales agents across Kenya while measuring and reporting on monthly targets versus sales acquired.

    EDUCATION REQUIRED:
    Minimum Qualifications;

    A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy or related field from a recognized university. A masters in the same field would be an added advantage
    2-5 years of experience in Agronomy
    At least 3 years of interaction with Conservation and Climate-Smart agriculture
    Experience working with farmers and demonstrated experience as an advisor on agronomy, sustainable agriculture and best farming practice
    Experience with working with farmers, Agrodealers and Agroenterprises
    Experience in Global.G.A.P Certification and Ken G.A.P Standards is desirable

    Additional Skills and Competencies

    Requirements
    Qualifications and requirements:

    PhD/Masters level studies (on agriculture, climate sciences, agrometeorology, or related fields), and demonstrated experience of at least 2 years (for PhD) or 5 years (for Masters) working in the field of CIS.
    Extensive experience, training, and knowledge in agrometeorology, climate science, and/or climate services for agriculture.
    Experience in the design and application of participatory methods for CIS needs assessment, and CIS design and implementation at the field scale.
    Experience in designing and deploying CIS systems either through participatory, or digital means, or both. Working knowledge of seasonal forecast tools such as NextGen is a plus.
    Extensive experience of handling and processing gridded weather and climate data.
    Experience working with partners from academia, NGOs, CGIAR centers, and meteorological services
    Knowledge and experience on climate prediction and/or on the use of climate predictions to inform decision-making.
    Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. French would be a plus.

    Overview
    To establish vegetable aggregation centers in several counties in liaison with the implementing partners in the Veggies 4 Planet & People (V4P&P) project, government partners, and private sector, and facilitate a sustainable and replicable aggregation center business model.
    Duties and responsibilities

    Develop feasibility studies and business plans for the establishment and operation of pilot vegetable aggregation centers in 3 different counties in Kenya, based on the concept note that has been developed by V4P&P.
    Quantify project revenue streams based on sale of produce, logistics, business development services, storage, value addition, member fees, and other fees. Develop a cost structure for the aggregation centers.
    Liaise with the anticipated clients of the aggregation centers, such as vegetable producers, agro-input providers, service providers, transporters, traders, and buyers, derived from existing vegetable business networks (VBNs) in the project.
    In liaison with the project communication officer, media, other stakeholders, and field days, promote the values of the aggregation centers and its products among consumers and the wider community.
    Promote accountability, transparency, and good leadership.
    Monitor and document the operation of aggregation centers for the purpose of learning, sharing lessons with stakeholders, and reporting.
    Manage other activities: identification and acquisition of land, design of aggregation center, building of infrastructure, consultative meetings with stakeholders, set up a management committee for each center, capacity building of management committees.
    Identify and mitigate potential risks within your work area.
    Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws.
    Liaise with V4P&P project to coordinate complementary activities.
    Perform any other duties assigned by the Kenya Country Director.

    Education, knowledge and experience

    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agricultural economics, agribusiness, or related field.
    Minimum three years’ experience in agricultural value chains, facilitating upstream and downstream linkages.
    Proven experience in building capacity of agricultural enterprises.
    Proven experience in liaising with public-, and private partners, and linking smallholder farmers to markets, particularly for perishable products.

    Personal attributes and competencies

    Excellent computer skills in MS‐office applications (Word, Excel, Power point).
    Team player with excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.
    Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with partners and colleagues in a multi-cultural setting.

    Overall, the role of an Agribusiness Coordinator is to facilitate and coordinate various program activities, ensuring that they are implemented successfully and meet the needs of stakeholders.     Agricultural Systems Scientist

    Duties and Responsibilities:

     Facilitate regular interactions between Add-on, KPI, MELIA and Use Case teams for the integration of Add-on activities, KPI assessment and MELIA activities within Use Cases.
     Coordinate the development and implementation of an Add-on toolbox that is digitally accessible to Use Case teams, EiA partners and beyond.
     Organize capacity building activities for Use Case teams, focused on data collection, data analysis and learning for MVP design and scaling, to enable the implementation of Add-on activities.
     Conduct data analysis to extract learnings on farming systems dynamics and characteristics of farmer communities to inform Use Case strategies.
     Facilitate collaboration between Add-on/KPI teams and EiA data analysis support functions.

    Requirements

     Minimum of 5 years of working experience within a multi-disciplinary research context.
     Advanced skills and demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.
     Experience with the collection and management of large-scale survey data.
     Experience with Monitoring & Evaluation, Learning and Impact assessment.

    Skills:

     Strong organizational/management skills in large-scale research or development projects.
     Demonstrated good technical report writing skills.
     Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.

    Education level

     PhD in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences, Sociology or related field.
