    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
    Under the overall guidance of the Head of Unit, the “Water and Land Management” expert will work under the supervision of the Team Lead for Resilient Livelihoods and work closely with the climate advisor and market access and value chains focal point, field offices and field-based agricultural engineers. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

    Facilitate and ensure timely implementation of critical water infrastructure rehabilitation in response to drought in close collaboration with relevant WFP Nairobi and field-based teams
    Design strategy for early recovery activities focusing on integrated water solutions targeting pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the arid counties of Kenya – taking early warning and climate projections into account 
    Facilitate timely procurement processes coordinating between field offices (including agricultural engineers), procurement and other relevant teams in Nairobi
    Ensure sound environmental management practices/guidelines are in place, monitored and reported on
    Guide on strengthening community-based water governance and management practices across targeted counties
    Strengthen existing monitoring frameworks to report on processes, outputs, outcomes of the rehabilitation work in collaboration with M&E, and support documentation of success stories
    Represent WFP in water sector fora and act as liaison officer with the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Millennium Water Alliance and other relevant partners 
    Explore opportunities for the use of innovative technologies and solutions, including with the private sector
    Co-design UN Joint Programme on Water for Health, Food security and Resilient Livelihoods and develop other water and land management related proposals

    DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

    Water rehabilitation projects under current drought response finalized – meeting all donor requirements (including plans for continuous monitoring sustainability)
    Early recover strategy designed
    Integrated water for resilience project documented and success stories shared
    UN Joint Programme on Water for Health, Food Security and Resilient Livelhoods finalized and at least two other relevant proposals developed

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Advanced university degree in one or more of the following disciplines: water and land management, agricultural engineering, environmental management, or a related field.
    Experience: At least five (5) years of experience sustainable land and water management, either in private sector enterprises, in non-profit value chain related projects or research institution
    Languages: Fluency (oral and written) in English and Kiswahili necessary; proficiency in other languages spoken regionally in Kenya is an asset.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    Strong expertise in sustainable water, land and environment management (experience working as or with agricultural engineers is of advantage)   
    Excellent project management skills, including programme design, budgeting, procurement, implementation, monitoring and reporting skills
    Experience working agro-pastoral/pastoral communities and organizations, and designing and implementing development projects, preferably in Kenya arid and semi-arid lands
    Demonstrated ability to engage with public and private entities, planning and working together
    Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relations across multi-functional teams as well as with a results-oriented private sector, research, think tanks and other key stakeholders
    Solid operational skills, including creative thinking, problem solving, negotiation skills, meeting tight deadlines and working under pressure
    Strong presentation skills and experience in public speaking of advantage.

    The Position Summary
    Reporting to the Vice President Program Innovation and Delivery, the ideal candidate will be in-charge of overseeing the day-to-day activities and all CESSA operations. This includes ensuring that the set vision and long-term goals of CESSA as well as the implementation and monitoring the strategy is on track. The Director will be in-charge of all the staff in the 3 CESSA Units, Analysis and Knowledge Resource, Capacity Building and Technical Support and Catalytic Grants and Advisory Services. One of the cardinal objectives of CESSA is to serve as a go to hub for all seed related work and it is the responsibility of the Director to ensure that this is achieved. 
    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Oversee the process of delivering CESSA offerings across all the 8-thematic areas.
    Responsible for financial planning, partnerships with key seed sector players, both public and private and the face of CESSA in various local, regional, or international fora.
    Work across Divisions to support new business development, knowledge management and in some instances, project delivery.
    Support AGRA management to mobilize resources to implement CESSA initiatives and AGRA work in general.
    Lead on the donor stewardship (Customer Relationship Management databased), support the facilitation of negotiations and signing of new funding agreements, while assisting in the implementation of AGRA’s Public-Private Partnership resource mobilization strategy.
    Ensure CESSA digital platform is regularly updated, and stakeholders can get information and knowledge tools as expected.
    Ensure that the grant funds, when awarded, are appropriately used for the intended purpose.
    Work with finance to generate reporting required for compliance and financial statement audits.
    Integrate tools to monitor grants for legal, financial, and program compliance including but not limited to ensuring that grant requirements are correctly documented in the grant files and database.
    Maintain regular communication with other AGRA/CESSA professionals to enhance CESSA relevance.
    Lead periodic Program Team staff meetings, including provision of work-related updates to ensure smooth running of program activities.
    Delivers together with and Team the preparation of donor reports, board reports, AGRA annual and quarterly reports.
    Influence partners to value, work with and support CESSA develop and strengthen seed systems in Africa.
    Influence grantees in employing best practices in executing the activities under the grants awarded for meeting the CESSA objectives.
    Align grantee achievements against targets and collaborate with relevant TALs and grantee to identify any consistencies for the grants.
    Champion integration of CESSA with other AGRA bodies of work and various AGRA funded projects.
    Motivate the team for solving problems around complex grant scenarios through consultations/liaison with finance and legal entities.
    Direct seamless delivery of CESSA offering to the intended beneficiaries.
    Lead annual planning process and development of CESSA budgets, workplans to ensure they are aligned with AGRA’s strategy.
    Assess, monitor, and document the grantmaking workflow processes, templates, reports and data to assure full compliance with internal controls and legal requirements.

    Relevant Experience & Professional Qualifications

    Minimum 3-5 years of experience of international development with demonstrable track record of working with donors.
    PhD or master’s degree in Agricultural sciences, Business Administration, Economics, or any other relevant field.
    Professional qualifications in relevant field(s), that enhances proficiency in analytical research, communication, leadership, and strategic planning or execution.
    Minimum of 15 years’ experience in international development leading strategic planning, corporate bottom-line performance management, and resource allocation and accountability decision-making. 
    At least 7 years of experience in a senior leadership role.
    Excellent organizational and analytical skills and the ability to formulate recommendations and improve team dynamics.
    Exceptional interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and acumen and the ability to work with many, diverse individuals, and groups across various functions.
    Skill in management and leadership with the ability to direct programs, staff, and cross-functional teams in an efficient and effective manner.
    The ability to maintain effective and harmonious relations with the organization’s stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities will be:

    Supervise labour accordingly and make sure that the given tasks are completed in time.
    Delivery of quality work as per the company standards.
    Carry out daily production, harvesting predictions and ensure that good picking procedures and good agricultural practices are carried out for crop sustenance.
    Coordination of transport of harvested flowers from the field to the Flowers Packhouse.
    Carry out labour projections and utilization in the field.
    Ensure that the flowers is of good quality and ensure timely harvesting to meet customer expectations.
    Ensure that material and equipment required for work are available to workers at all times.
    Health and Safety – Ensure all duties are performed safely and responsibly in compliance with the Environmental, Health and Safety Company policies in place.
    Ensure proper PPE is worn at all time.
    Ensure area of work is clean after work and always ‘visit and audit ready’ year round.

    Desired Competences/Qualifications

    Degree/Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture.
    Must have KCSE Certificate.
    Two years’ experience in a Flowers setup with at least 1year in a supervisory role.

    Role Objective:
    The Junior Agronomy Officer will oversee Pest, Pesticide and IPM matters for all Farm sites and will be involved in field crop walks and monitoring predictions.
    Key Responsibilities:

    Work with the Growing Manager Program to input chemical and fertilizers programs, data sheets, monitor seed usage and plantings.
    Ensure that chemical and fertilizer orders are prepared monthly, and that goods once ordered are supplied and the farms are fully updated on the supplies.
    Providing accurate and timely projection reports to the sales department on plantings, predictions, production
    Visit the farms from time to time to do crop walks and reports and monitor trials and IPM strategy implementation at each site.
    Coordinate trainings, and site visits in conjunction with the Head office team.
    Coordinate with the fields team on notifiable pests, ensure that a detailed Spray plan per site is in place and that data being collected is done in a timely fashion and updated to the Growing Manager.
    From time to time, visit and report back on nominated Out growers.
    Any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Management from time to time.

    Weekly reporting on Inhouse and Out grower plantings, chemical and fertilizer program updates, and monitoring of scouting information.

    Responsible for oversight and management of all activities within the Avocado orchard concerning production of  seedlings and general maintenance of the nursery.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Nursery Management

    The upkeep and maintenance of the nursery compound and infrastructure within.

    People Management

    Ensure that all labour in the section is effective and efficient and that all staff achieves the  recommended daily tasks.

    Plan and forecast Avocado Yields, gapping plants required, operations, etc.

    Crop Management

    Lead the agronomy team to ensure that pest control is well managed, and all pests and diseases are  kept below threshold at all times
    Direct the Farm’s crop nutrition in terms of implementation of fertilizer plans, composting /  manure application and foliar feeding

    Irrigation Management

    Manage irrigation and scheduling of irrigation based on crop requirements and stages of  production. Reduction of water wastage from leaks and over irrigation.

    Crop husbandry

    Deeper agricultural knowledge of the avocado crop husbandry and seasons in East Africa.
    In depth understanding of the Avocado husbandry practice

    Sourcing of inputs.

    Responsible for planning and the ssourcing of inputs through internal requisitions on time

    Key competencies:

    Knowledge of Avocado orchard operations preferred.
    Diploma or Degree in BSc in Horticulture or a related field
    2 – 4 Years’ management experience in a horticultural field

    Good verbal and written communication skills.
