    Key exerience and knowledge needed:

    Key Reponsibilities

    Execute the harvest of ready onions.
    Monitor the delivery of the freshly harvested onions.
    Field supervision of onion harvest operations to ensure product is harvested with timeliness, efficiency, productivity and safely within Twiga Foods specification.
    Coordination of the field harvest team to achieve output harvesting targets and maintain cost per kg targets.
    Planning and coordination of harvest crop movement from field and farm to store including liaison with Twiga logistics personnel when required to ensure downtime of harvest operations is eliminated.   
    Planning and coordination of harvest equipment required to ensure downtime of harvest operations is eliminated. Working closely with the Onion Crop Manager on crop establishment planning and weekly labour requirements. 
    Monitors onion harvest operations to ensure the onion crop harvest completed weekly with high quality work, timeliness, efficiency, productivity and safely. 
    Verify that the settings and maintained on the harvest equipment to produce a crop stand as specified by the Onion Crop Manager. Set up and operate harvest equipment to harvest onions.  
    Detect potential equipment/machinery problems/ malfunctions/ risks early on and escalate to the respective team member as required.
    Maintain operational records for onion harvested and crop traceability to ensure accuracy of records of machine work and farm yield per field and per ha.  
    Training and development of other harvest teams to maintain and continually improve operational efficiency.

    Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills 

    More than 7 years of experience providing increasingly proficient technical support in the field of MSD with significant CRA knowledge and experience, preferably in international development.
    Advanced degree in field relevant to CRA (e.g., agronomy, agricultural economics, agroforestry, climate change and food security) or to MSD (e.g., macroeconomics, sustainable development, inclusive market systems) with field experience in the other field; or significant comparable field experience in both fields. 
    Demonstrated strong theoretical and applied knowledge of MSD programming, including using integrated approaches and applying systems thinking. 
    Demonstrated strong theoretical and applied knowledge of regenerative agriculture, nature-based solutions or similar, including soil and water management.
    Experience in working with the private sector and other market actors for CRA projects

    Job Purpose

    The Food Security and Resilience Planning Coordinator (s) will be responsible for developing comprehensive country plans and project proposals. Their primary objective will be to transform Emergency Country Plans of Action into sustainable Food Security and Resilience Country Plans. To achieve this, the Planning Coordinator will collaborate with partners and donors, preparing proposals for submission as required.
    The ideal Planning Coordinator will have an in-depth knowledge of the regional context, expertise in food security and resilience programming, and strong project proposal writing skills. Familiarity with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is also essential.
    Two Planning Coordinators (both consultants) will be hired for this role and they will be required to travel to specific countries for the consultancy. Each coordinator will oversee four countries within the consultancy period, with assignments determined based on language proficiency and logistical/travel considerations. The countries for this consultancy include South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Nigeria.

    Job Duties And Responsibilities

    Specific tasks

    Develop Food Security and Resilience Country Plans based on existing Country Plans of Actions.
    Assess and review ToRs for Call for Proposals and propose a preliminary outline of proposal content for consideration.
    Research funding opportunities for delegations and the Regional Office.
    Lead proposal development and submission process.

    Deliverables

    Four completed Food Security and Resilience Country Plans.
    Completed proposals on an ad-hoc basis that meet donors’ criteria.

    Reporting lines

    The consultant will report directly to the Regional Operations Manager for the Hunger Crisis, with technical reporting to the Regional Head of PMER for country planning and the Regional Head of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships for proposal development.
    The consultant may have contacts with relevant technical departments in Geneva and the Regional Office for operational purposes, in consultation and agreement with line management.

    Security

    IFRC Africa Regional Office Safety and Security Department will manage all technical security-related matters.
    All IFRC staff and consultants must complete the IFRC Stay Safe e-learning courses.
    The consultant will receive a security briefing upon arrival and should carry photo identification.

    Duty of Care

    Key Responsibilities for each position are below.
    Financial Management and Investment Experts

    Contribute to the creation and implementation of a blended finance strategy to support business growth and increase access to finance in the agriculture sector.
    Support financial institutions and investors to develop new financing solutions and products for agricultural firms and build capacity of lenders to structure financial products and transactions for agriculture SMEs.
    Strengthen the capacity of local business advisory service (BAS) providers to assist agricultural SMEs to negotiate and complete financing transactions.
    Enable agricultural firms to access finance and investment to expand their operations, develop new products, and reach new customers.
    Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation team to ensure adequate monitoring and recording of investment deals.

    Agriculture Market Systems Development and Transformation Experts

    Support agriculture firms to develop robust out-grower schemes with smallholder farmers to increase agriculture sector sales and exports.
    Co-develop processes and structures with and facilitate linkages among agriculture market actors to reach new buyers and access new markets (domestic and export).
    Strengthen the sustainability and inclusivity of the agriculture market system. Identify gaps, barriers, and challenges that impede progress.
    Monitor environmental challenges and considerations like climate change, emerging/strong crop markets, pests and infestations.

    CLA and MEL Knowledge Systems & Management Experts

    Lead activity learning, contribute to industry conversations, communicate successes and failures to inform investment.

    Qualification:

    Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
    Minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
    Experience in and knowledge of Kenyan agriculture markets and private sector strongly preferred.
    Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills required; proficiency in Kiswahili preferred.
    Demonstrated experience working closely with and supporting governments.
    Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.

    Spray Foremen

    Key Responsibilities

    Ensure correct use of spray equipment.
    Ensure that the team wears and uses correct personal protective equipment.
    Maintain all spray equipment to a high standard and promptly report any defects.
    To ensure that the workshop personnel perform the weekly maintenance check correctly and that all snags are straightened out before commencing the next weeks’ spray programme.
    Monitor sprayers’ activities and ensure that everyone carries out his duties correctly.
    Liaise with the Production Manager to raise standard of training on equipment being used and ensure that new employees receive proper instructions. All sprayers must be trained in the safe and effective use of pesticide before being allowed to spray any chemical. All sprayers must have a certificate to prove they have been trained.
    Attend daily meeting to discuss any problems that may have arisen and inform the vegetables team of the following day’s program.
    Ensure that Spray Application Details are properly filled and authorized and that block boards and tape are correctly used to avoid any possibility of harvesting prior to clear date.
    Monitor the tape and boards on a daily basis and to confirm that the head of picking removes and returns the boards and tape correctly before harvest.
    Ensure that the spray leader carries mix information, calibration records, timing indicators etc. with the spray tractor at all times so that the correct speed of working is known before commencing spray operations.
    Re-allocate work to sprayers when there no spray operations for that day. 
    Ensure all records of P.P.E, flushing sheets, calibration, daily logs, and active list of all sprayers are updated.
    Keep up to date with the Flamingo Horticulture approved pesticides list.
    Liaise with the crop scouts on the following week’s spray program.
    Any other duties, which may arise from time to time.

    Desired Competences/Qualifications

    Have a Degree or Diploma/in Agriculture/Horticulture or related field.
    IPM level two with at least two years’ experience in a vegetables setup and at least 1year in a similar role.
    Valid driving license Class, F & G.
    Have good leadership/supervisory qualities and possess good communication, numerical, problem solving, organizational skills
    Flexible and have good decision-making ability.
    Able to prioritize jobs for the efficient running of the team, attentive to detail, team player and tidy.
    Should have strong personal initiative and an ability to work under minimal supervision.
    Should be an honest individual who is willing to learn and change with the times.
    Should be time conscious.
    Those with BASIS or FACTS certificates will have an added advantage
