    The Consultant will lead the OFSP Compact and his/her duties will include provision of effective technical and managerial leadership in all aspect of the OFSP compact, overseeing the work of implementing partners and ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of the OFSP project activities. Specifically, the consultant will be required to carry out the following services: lead the Orange Fleshed Sweet-Potato Compact and the development of all the necessary submissions for approval by the TAAT Clearing house, TAAT PMU and the AfDB; oversee day-to-day management and implementation of value chain compact activities in close collaboration with country value chain implementation teams; facilitate the implementation of value chain activities in all target countries and participate in the monitoring of progress made towards achieving value chain and TAAT set goals and provide support to all value chain public and private sector partners in each participating country.

    The selected Consultant will report to the Senior Program Coordinator – Sweet-potato and the assignment shall be for an initial period of One (1) year and subject to renewal with satisfactory performance.

    Requirements

    The selected consultant should possess an advanced postgraduate degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Business Administration, Food Technology, Agricultural Extension or a closely related field to the Potato value chain;
    minimum of 10 years of professional work experience with at least three (3) years of experience with the Sweet-potato value chain (vine multiplication, production, storage and processing etc.);
    relevant work experience in project management, especially with projects that link farmers to the market will be added advantage;
    experience in leading projects that are involved in public-private partnership.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, biology, marine biology, environmental science, social science, community development or relevant field; a master’s degree is a plus;
    Minimum of 7 years’ experience and proven track record in assisting local governments and/or building organizational capacities of environmental/fisheries management organizations, community-based people’s organizations, and/or NGOs;
    Demonstrated field-based program management experience;
    Knowledge of integrating/mainstreaming gender and climate change into community-based fisheries co-management systems
    Strong network of regional and local government, NGO and civil society within the marine/coastal fisheries sector in focus geography, which may include Kenya, Somalia, the Seychelles, Comoros, South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Mauritius, and Madagascar; and
    Excellent communication skills in English. Foreign language ability a plus.

    Job Purpose:

    The overall purpose of this job is to contribute to the promotion of ecological sustainable agricultural practices and technologies through participatory, market-oriented approaches to meet the needs of smallholder farmers while staying relevant to the context of the project.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Establish and update database of farmers being (currently submitted monthly via Kobo Collect) reached through FCP activities.
    Carry out farmer trainings to farmer community groups to provide relevant knowledge and skills development on ecological sustainable agriculture practices and technologies, based on the selected priority value chains.
     Establishing, preparing and maintaining demonstration plots for learning purposes to promote the adoption of organic and ecologically sustainable farming methodologies.
    Participate with IEC materials in field days, agriculture shows and exhibitions.
    Organize individual farm visits and carryout follow ups to monitor the progress and any improvements.
    Plan for community-based exchange visits to learn new technologies from other farmers; leverage on such platforms to sensitize the public on the BvAT’s mandate.
    Respond to farmers’ requests/issues on any challenges they are facing by providing timely advice and feedback based on the nature of problem.
     Train school children from participating schools on organic agriculture and agroecology.
     Establish partnerships with like-minded, faith-based organizations, NGOs and the county government and community-based organizations.
    Contribute to content development to the TOF magazine, TOF radio and Infonet reference material to increase awareness on organic farming and importance of environment conservation.
     Timely preparation of monthly workplans in the KoboCollect platform.
     Undertake daily update of field activities and compile monthly reports in a timely manner and submit to the Outreach Manager.
    Record and compile articles and success stories from the farmers/beneficiaries.
    Complete in a timely manner staff appraisal with the Farmer Field Assistants in line with BvAT’s Appraisal system.
    Any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

    Required Qualifications:

    Degree in either organic agriculture, agricultural extension, rural development, crop production, livestock development, community development or any other closely related discipline in agriculture
    Minimum of at least 3 years of relevant experience.
    A certificate in project management/ monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Poultry Production Officer to join our team. The Poultry production officer will be supporting (about 800) poultry farmers in the production of eggs and meat, as well as providing training and extension to target farmers and will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day monitoring of the operations in the target beneficiaries’ poultry farms, facilitating training and learning all aspects of poultry farming, facilitate both input and output market linkages and ensuring that the farms are running efficiently.

    Responsibilities:

    ·         Promote learning on all aspects of poultry farming, including feed management, flock management, biosecurity, and farm maintenance.

    ·         Assist with the care and management of poultry flocks, including monitoring and maintaining bird health and welfare, and facilitating the aggregation/collection of eggs.

    ·         Assist with the implementation of biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of disease within the flocks and farms.

    ·         Assist with technical support and training on the maintenance of a poultry farm, including on cleaning and sanitizing barns and equipment, repairing and maintaining equipment, and managing waste disposal.

    ·         Assist with record-keeping and data management related to poultry flock management, including feed and water consumption, egg production, and bird health.

    ·         Facilitate learning and implementation of supplement feed production through, feed milling and mixing, protein rich insects rearing (Black Solder Flies, etc.), production of Azolla, enforcement of food safety practices and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.

    ·         Participate in farmer training programs and attend industry conferences to continue learning about best practices in poultry farming.

    ·         Ensure that farmers’ activities comply with government regulations.

    ·         Monitor animal health and welfare, including liaising with vets.

    ·         Maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.

    ·         Ensure animal products are ready for deadlines, such as markets.

    Requirements:

    Objective

    Provide technical support in sweet potato agronomy to CIP projects and initiatives in Kenya and Eastern Africa Region as well as Packaging of sweet potato advisory content using various format for various farmer facing organization using human centered design.
    Contribute to the design and direct the implementation of a sustainable sweetpotato seed systems strategy that will assure quality and accessibility of sweetpotato planting material for production and commercialization of the sweetpotato value chain
    Design and implement a working, cost-effective and timely planting material dissemination approaches and root production plans with partners to enhance OFSP production among households both for food and nutrition security as well as commercialization.
    Work and collaborate with national government partners, KALRO and other stakeholders to initiate, coordinate and manage the National Performance Evaluation (NPTs) and varietal release process for developing commercially viable OFSP varieties, development and dissemination of Early Generation Seed (EGS).
    Participate in the development and, where possible, delivery of appropriate training modules in priority topics such as production, agronomy, post-harvesting management etc. The training will target sweetpotato value chain actors including farmers, extension agents, aggregators, processors etc.
    Provide support to the project team by facilitating timely, accurate and routine data collection required for project reports.
    Working with other stakeholders and colleagues to develop linkages and contribute to online platforms for the exchange of information about OFSP for widespread adoption.

    Deliverables

    Significant contribution and leadership to the design and implementation of a sustainable sweetpotato seed systems strategy to support Ukama Ustawi initiative and partnership with WFP.
    Develop and implement a cost-effective and timely planting material dissemination and root production plan,which involves at least 50000 cuttings of EGS produced for further multiplication and at least 1000HHs reach with clean planting material.
    Work with KALRO to develop and implement a work plan relating to the coordination and management of the National Performance Evaluation (NPEs) and varietal release process for developing commercially viable OFSP varieties in Kenya

    Selection Criteria

    PhD in Agriculture, agronomy, breeding, crop science or a related Field
