    About the Role

    The mandate of the Market Access team is to start up agribusinesses that work for smallholder farmers, focusing on high value crops such as macadamia and avocados. As a member of the Market Access team, you contribute to program improvement to achieve our efficiency and scale goals.

    One of the flagship Market Access projects enables avocado farmers by facilitating their Global GAP certification, sourcing from them at premium prices, packing high quality products according to international standards, and exporting globally to distribution partners in Europe and America. You will support the Market Access Team manage fruit packing processes to ensure production targets are met. You will lead a diverse team to meet customer expectations by providing excellent customer service and ensure repeat business through job scheduling, collaboration with extension and Aggregation, adherence to quality requirements, and ensuring production efficiency.

    Responsibilities

    Manage the daily operations of the avocado processing facility, including overseeing production, quality control, and maintenance.
    Supervise a team of processing technicians and ensuring that all employees are trained in proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
    Maintain accurate records of production, inventory, and quality control, and reporting any issues to management.
    Ensure that all equipment is maintained and serviced to minimize downtime.
    Collaborate with other departments to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
    Develop and implement new processes to improve quality, productivity and safety.
    Manage and motivate the team, setting performance targets, and ensuring that employees are aware of our goals.
    Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations related to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety.

    Qualifications

    A minimum of a diploma or be a graduate from a recognized university preferably in an agricultural related discipline.
    2 (two) years experience managing Avocados pack house/s or perishable pack houses.
    Knowledge of fresh produce industry industrial relations.
    Experience in factory and labor administration.
    Have supervisory skills

    Key Responsibilities  

    Purpose

    Provide support in the day-to-day operations of experiments and research activities, including preparation of materials, setting trials in the field/screenhouse/greenhouse/laboratory, from seeding, harvesting to seed processing to ensure that research standards of quality assurance are met
    Perform specific procedures related to experiments/research studies (e.g. preparation of hydroponic solutions for screening, setting of field trials, monitor pests and diseases, maintain seed supply of experimental material, taking measurements for growth and yield assessments to quantify effects of abiotic stresses etc. in field and greenhouse trials)
    Compile and review sample collection for processing

    Engagement

    Provide support for training of scholars, farmers, extension workers and interns to ensure maximum and effective transfer of knowledge

    Delivery

    Actively contribute to the maintenance and organization of the field/screenhouse/greenhouse/laboratory as required by the institute protocols including maintaining supply inventory, cleanliness, orderliness and safety in the laboratory and other workspaces, preparation of commonly used solutions/materials, inventory and requests for chemicals and other supplies as well as waste disposal
    Maintain stock of seeds of commonly used genotypes and populations, and provide basic data on stored germplasm

    Requirements

    Diploma in the Agriculture with 2 years of relevant work experience
    Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) or other softwares
    Experience in rice production and practices of plant breeding in rice
    Experience with field data collection, sample processing and archiving
    Understanding of health and safety in the workplace and good working practices
    Good oral and written communication skills
    Good interpersonal skills Ability to ride a motorcycle on the field and have a valid license for this category or be willing to learn it
    Knowledgeable in milling rice samples, grading, post-harvest handling and working in a grain quality lab will be considered an asset

The key responsibilities of the New Business Manager include:

    Strategic Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify strategic priorities and initiatives that support new business development both within and outside the core operations.
    Strategic Relationships: Manage strategic relationships related to new revenue opportunities, including value chain partnerships and sustainability initiatives. Establish and cultivate relationships with along the value chain based in East Africa, develop account strategies, and execute them effectively.

    Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Effectively communicate to align stakeholders’ expectations, gain buy-in, and ensure ongoing support for strategic initiatives within YAA. Establish a sharing function between markets to encourage experimentation and scaling of new business models and ideas.
    Collaboration: Collaborate with subject matter experts across the company to develop new innovative value propositions. Create frameworks for countries to analyse value chains in key crops and determine potential new business models. Work closely with Agronomy, Digital, and Sustainability team members to capitalize on opportunities and find synergies.
    Research & Development: Identify and manage all research and development projects to be implemented within East Africa.
    Portfolio Management: Continuously assess the OPP, TPP, and FFB (Organic, Organo-Mineral, and Sustainability) portfolio and build a roadmap aligned with the company’s sustainability ambitions. Identify new opportunities in the Organic & Organo-Mineral market to be piloted and evaluated.
    Marketing: Represent Yara in significant value chain forums to position the company as the preferred strategic partner.

    Profile

    Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness or Business-related fields.
    Strong commercial acumen and proven track record in delivering business results.
