    Responsibilities

    The New Business Manager is a senior position and will work closely with the Country Manager and the SVP of Africa. The role will play a crucial role in leading and managing strategic initiatives aimed at establishing new revenue streams in East Africa. The responsibilities will involve identifying, planning, and implementing key projects and programs that align with YAA’s Nature Positive Strategy. The key responsibilities of the New Business Manager include:

    Strategic Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify strategic priorities and initiatives that support new business development both within and outside the core operations.
    Strategic Relationships: Manage strategic relationships related to new revenue opportunities, including value chain partnerships and sustainability initiatives. Establish and cultivate relationships with along the value chain based in East Africa, develop account strategies, and execute them effectively.
    Initiative Identification: Actively prospect for potential strategic initiatives, assess their feasibility, potential risks, and expected contribution and impact. Develop a roadmap and detailed targets for the regional (East African) value chain company strategy within YAA and ensure its implementation.
    Innovation: Analyse complete value chains in key markets and design and implement new business initiatives within the value chain (e.g., Outcome Based Models (OBMs), Service Offerings, Farming Initiatives) to enable new revenue streams. Generate disruptive models and opportunities within the broader agricultural industry that results in possible new revenue streams.
    Performance Monitoring: Track and evaluate the progress of strategic initiatives, generating regular reports and presentations to update management on the status and outcomes of these initiatives.
    Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Effectively communicate to align stakeholders’ expectations, gain buy-in, and ensure ongoing support for strategic initiatives within YAA. Establish a sharing function between markets to encourage experimentation and scaling of new business models and ideas.
    Collaboration: Collaborate with subject matter experts across the company to develop new innovative value propositions. Create frameworks for countries to analyse value chains in key crops and determine potential new business models. Work closely with Agronomy, Digital, and Sustainability team members to capitalize on opportunities and find synergies.
    Research & Development: Identify and manage all research and development projects to be implemented within East Africa.
    Portfolio Management: Continuously assess the OPP, TPP, and FFB (Organic, Organo-Mineral, and Sustainability) portfolio and build a roadmap aligned with the company’s sustainability ambitions. Identify new opportunities in the Organic & Organo-Mineral market to be piloted and evaluated.
    Marketing: Represent Yara in significant value chain forums to position the company as the preferred strategic partner.

    Profile

    Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness or Business-related fields.
    Strong commercial acumen and proven track record in delivering business results.

    Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

    Served in the grade of Senior Agricultural Officer, Job Group CPSB 08/’L’ for a minimum period of three (3) years;
    Bachelor’s degree in any of the following; – Food Science, Home Economics, Agriculture, Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Education, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management or Agribusiness;
    Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage; and
    Demonstrate a high degree of professional and technical competence as reflected in work performance and results.

    Enhance linkage and connection to input suppliers and markets
    Undertake any other roles as assigned by the supervisor and Management

Specifically, the consultant will be required to carry out the following services: lead the Orange Fleshed Sweet-Potato Compact and the development of all the necessary submissions for approval by the TAAT Clearing house, TAAT PMU and the AfDB; oversee day-to-day management and implementation of value chain compact activities in close collaboration with country value chain implementation teams; facilitate the implementation of value chain activities in all target countries and participate in the monitoring of progress made towards achieving value chain and TAAT set goals and provide support to all value chain public and private sector partners in each participating country.

    The selected Consultant will report to the Senior Program Coordinator – Sweet-potato and the assignment shall be for an initial period of One (1) year and subject to renewal with satisfactory performance.

    Requirements

    The selected consultant should possess an advanced postgraduate degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Business Administration, Food Technology, Agricultural Extension or a closely related field to the Potato value chain;
    minimum of 10 years of professional work experience with at least three (3) years of experience with the Sweet-potato value chain (vine multiplication, production, storage and processing etc.);
    relevant work experience in project management, especially with projects that link farmers to the market will be added advantage;
    experience in leading projects that are involved in public-private partnership.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum of 7 years’ experience and proven track record in assisting local governments and/or building organizational capacities of environmental/fisheries management organizations, community-based people’s organizations, and/or NGOs;
    Demonstrated field-based program management experience;
    Knowledge of integrating/mainstreaming gender and climate change into community-based fisheries co-management systems

    Job Purpose:

    The overall purpose of this job is to contribute to the promotion of ecological sustainable agricultural practices and technologies through participatory, market-oriented approaches to meet the needs of smallholder farmers while staying relevant to the context of the project.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Establish and update database of farmers being (currently submitted monthly via Kobo Collect) reached through FCP activities.
    Carry out farmer trainings to farmer community groups to provide relevant knowledge and skills development on ecological sustainable agriculture practices and technologies, based on the selected priority value chains.
     Establishing, preparing and maintaining demonstration plots for learning purposes to promote the adoption of organic and ecologically sustainable farming methodologies.
    Participate with IEC materials in field days, agriculture shows and exhibitions.
    Organize individual farm visits and carryout follow ups to monitor the progress and any improvements.
    Plan for community-based exchange visits to learn new technologies from other farmers; leverage on such platforms to sensitize the public on the BvAT’s mandate.
    Respond to farmers’ requests/issues on any challenges they are facing by providing timely advice and feedback based on the nature of problem.
     Train school children from participating schools on organic agriculture and agroecology.
     Establish partnerships with like-minded, faith-based organizations, NGOs and the county government and community-based organizations.
    Contribute to content development to the TOF magazine, TOF radio and Infonet reference material to increase awareness on organic farming and importance of environment conservation.
     Timely preparation of monthly workplans in the KoboCollect platform.
     Undertake daily update of field activities and compile monthly reports in a timely manner and submit to the Outreach Manager.
    Record and compile articles and success stories from the farmers/beneficiaries.
    Complete in a timely manner staff appraisal with the Farmer Field Assistants in line with BvAT’s Appraisal system.
    Any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

    Working Relationships:

    Internal Relationships: Outreach Project Officer and Outreach Manager.
    External Relationships: Ministry of Agriculture, County Government departments, local Chiefs and leaders, and Partners in the agricultural sector.

    Required Qualifications:

    Degree in either organic agriculture, agricultural extension, rural development, crop production, livestock development, community development or any other closely related discipline in agriculture
    Minimum of at least 3 years of relevant experience.
    A certificate in project management/ monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.
