    Job Description

    Leads the team to achieve high efficiency and operational output and teamwork.
    Train, coach and empower vendors, production teams to achieve the desired production results.
    Ensures land/GH preparation is done on time and according to protocols ahead of planting season.
    Ensures stock seeds are received in time and have all relevant quality information with them.
    Ensures timely nursery/bed preparation to adhere to the sowing calendar.
    Provides the vendor with precise and detailed crop plan/schedule – quantities needed, number of plants, plant density, acreage, basic seeds requirement, weekly activity and labour plan for the season.
    Advises on consumables necessary for successful production activities of the ordered quantities.
    Ensures proper labeling at all stages for traceability and purity control.
    Trains production teams at different levels on relevant activities and protocols to enhance productivity and efficiency i.e. planting, labeling, training, de-suckering, defoliation, rouging, emasculation, pollen harvesting, pollination, harvesting, extraction, drying, storage, packing, and advises on shipment procedures.
    Ensures preparation and submission of monthly vendor progress reports (VPR) to the Seed Production Specialist(s) (SPS) to ensure the planning and marketing teams are reliably informed on the production progress.
    Prepares and disseminates precise but informative ad hoc and periodical reports to the stakeholders to keep all fully informed and up-to-date with the vendor activities
    Seeks, obtains and shares technical information concerning any issues that the vendor may require – tapping into the Syngenta knowledge base on behalf of the vendor
    Trains, guides and ensures adherence to phytosanitary standards in the field to control pests and diseases.
    Advises on crop protection, irrigation and crop nutrition and follows up to ensure any anomalies are corrected.
    Ensures the vendor collects and provides data on various growing and productivity parameters to assist in evaluation, decision making as well as cost transparency.
    Ensures contracts are availed and signed off by the vendor in good time.
    Coordinates relevant teams to ensures crop inspections by the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS)
    Trains and enforces HSE rules and regulations and champions the implementation of the Syngenta HSE policy in all business operations (step by step starting with high priorities and quick wins).
    Evaluates production/seasons to measure performance and identify areas of improvement.
    Performs new vendor scouting and assessment based on agreed criteria whenever required.
    Any other tasks & projects as may be allocated from time to time.

    Qualifications

    Undergraduate degree in Agriculture/Horticulture or its equivalent
    5 years’ experience in a similar role
    Holds a valid driver’s license.
    Proven experience in coordinating stakeholders
    Good communication skills
    Ability to lead and manage a team
    Good analytical and organization skills
    Knowledge and experience in crop protection and scouting
    Knowledge in basic genetics and seed science

    Job Summary

    To provide support in implementation of the Livestock Project – Adu. The coordinator will be responsible for running and supervising the livestock programs at all stages of the project cycle. The coordinator will be responsible for accomplishing the program objectives and outcomes within the contextual constraints and ensuring overall success of the program by making sure the Project Officers – Livestock complete the defined activities while adhering to internal standards and contractual obligations; and that the program is completed on time, within budget and with acceptable quality.

    Key Responsibilities

    Coordinate & facilitate the selection of beneficiaries of the project jointly with the local government leaders based on the agreed targeting criteria;
    Providing technical training and assistance to project staff and livestock beneficiaries;
    Organize and oversee the selection of healthy animals for purchase and preparation for transportation to beneficiaries;
    Organizing and monitoring beneficiaries to develop activities of project including supervision of livestock project infrastructure;
    In collaboration with Field Logistician, organize for the procurement of veterinary drugs, vaccines and equipment for livestock project;
    Preparation of timely reports of all field activities by summarizing livestock beneficiaries progress report from Field Project Officers;
    Coordinate project activities as directed by Project Manager;
    Provide link between stakeholders in the manner indicated by the organization;
    Comply with all SP policies and relevant procedures;
    Attend morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the Samaritan’s Purse ministry;

    Education / Experience Needed

    Degree in Animal Health / Animal Science, Animal Production or related field;
    Be a registered member of the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB), Animal Production Society of Kenya (APSK) or any other relevant professional body for animal sciences;
    Two years’ experience in working with Non-Governmental Organization targeting the rural poor;
    Experience in development work and the use of participatory tools in community development;
    Ability to communicate in English and Kiswahili;
    Be of high integrity and faithful in all matters;
    Ability to work under minimum or no supervision.

    PURPOSE

    Reporting to the Projects Coordinator, the Livelihoods Officer will be responsible for enhancing the number of households with improved economic capabilities through food distribution and the establishment of Self-Help Groups focusing on youths, women and People Living with Disability to nature access to resilient livelihood opportunities by initiating agricultural based income generating activities, financial Inclusion and entrepreneurial skills within the community of Laikipia. Specifically, S/he will be supporting the operation of school feeding programs, household cash transfers and increasing sustained access to incomes through Climate mart Agriculture and Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs). S/He will play a pivotal role in providing technical and management support to project activities on facilitating sustainable livelihoods interventions

    DUTIES
    Overall

    Ensure the implementation of the livelihoods component of the programme against annual work-plan, targets, time-plans and result indicator.
    Ensure timely and quality progress and financial reporting in line with agreed templates and schedule.

    Household Cash Transfer Program

    Operate the Cash Transfer component of the project by providing technical support, development of narrative and financial reporting in line with donor requirements.
    Assist the Project Coordinator in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Cash Transfer to households.
    Provide hands-on guidance in the engagement with service providers and Project Steering Committees (PSCs).
    Facilitate the identification, designing and implementing of appropriate training needs to Project Steering Committees.
    Oversee the identification, registration, and verification of cash transfer beneficiaries and monthly Mpesa disbursements to households.
    Support in cash transfer baseline and post distribution monitoring surveys with support from the monitoring and evaluation team.
    Follow procedures and guidelines in implementation of cash based interventions, and support in developing learning for improved cash strategy.
    Monitor and document cash activities, ensuring all processes, results and lessons learnt are documented and shared within the sector and with Management.

    School Feeding Program

    Collaborate with schools and stakeholders in the formation of School Feeding Committees.
    Conduct weekly and impromptu monitoring visits to all assigned schools as per the checklist guidelines while documenting, communicating, and resolving deviations.
    Facilitate the delivery of school feeding programme supplies and equipment to supported schools and ensure maintenance and care of assets donated to these schools.
    Furnish the finance, logistics and procurement departments with records of food delivered to schools and provide a report on the quality of food delivered.
    Conduct trainings and continuous refresher courses, coaching and mentorship activities to program volunteers on the importance of data accuracy in a bid to have credible information.
    Collect, collate, compile and share food consumption rates and stock balances in a timely. manner to ensure that proper food ratios are used and are aligned to Mary’s Meals feeding model and expectation.
    Hold community engagement sessions in collaboration with the School Feeding Committees, community members and other stakeholders to ensure support and ownership of the School Feeding Programme.

    Smart Farming Initiative

    Building strong relationships with community members and deliver the participatory community assessments and co-creation.
    Ensure that project activities are designed with agricultural technology focus aimed at creating self-sufficiency, improving resilience to climate change and enhancing the food security status of farmers’ households/local communities in Laikipia.
    Ensure that the agricultural potential in the region is assessed with an aim of improving on the existing systems and water management practices for increased crop production and livestock productivity.
    Responsible for technical management of the Livelihood interventions through designing livelihood activities which will be implemented for beneficiaries.
    Identify and design interventions that link the restoration of essential services with livelihood opportunities for community stability.
    Develop technical training modules for beneficiary training and learning activities.
    Support economic livelihoods and capacity building activities for partner communities.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Provide technical expertise to the project when the project issues call for proposals, as well as in contracting service providers and implementing entities in the rangelands and livestock management sub-sectors.

    Quality Assurance – M &E, Reporting and Documentation

    Conduct continuous activity and budget analysis to ensure adherence to the approved work, budget and procurement plans.
    Support the PO-MEAL to ensure quality Monthly, Quarterly, Semi- Annual and Annual reports prepared and submitted on timely basis.
    Systemically review DIP/budget and other key implementation tools as well as initiate innovative approaches that will open new opportunities for project success
    Make technical input into the planning and design of project specific operational researches, including baseline and end line evaluation and other relevant project assessments
    In liaison with the PO-MEAL, ensure that the process of learning is integrated into all project activities across the project cycle. Support accountability efforts by orchestrating project evaluation endeavours and guiding partners in their reflection on project experiences.
    Jointly with the project team, evaluate challenges in implementation and report any discrepancies or gaps to facilitate adjustments to plans and timelines.
    Support the project manager and PO-MEAL to ensure that all necessary documentation for assigned project activities is complete, including all required documents, and is organized according to agency and donor requirements.
    Register, track and regularly update beneficiaries’ database
    Support he project team to contextualize and use reporting guidelines to track and develop quality, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual and end of projects reports, key lessons and success stories in accordance with the guidelines and standardized tools.
    Support the PO-MEAL to develop a monitoring plan with communities and partners agreeing on the required standards for monitoring.
    Conduct regular group monitoring, data collection and analysis in coordination with the relevant stakeholders.
    Facilitate regular review and peer to peer learning meetings with government, target communities and relevant stakeholders
    Facilitate documentation of lessons and project impact to facilitate adoption in the course of the project implementation
    Support project assessment and learning processes including baseline surveys, midterm reviews and end of project evaluation.
    Support the PO-MEAL to supervise and monitor project interventions in strict adherence to WV Kenya, Kenya government regulations and other agreed standards.
    Ensure project data is captured, validated and updated on horizon and or any other approved World Vison Kenya (WVK) DM&E system.

    Capacity building

    In liaison with the Project team, support the identification of training needs and capacity-building initiatives for farmers, county staff and other public and private partners.
    Support the project team to coordinate with external stakeholders including, but not limited to, academia, NGOs, Government, and Private Sector in order to advance learning in the project.
    In liaison with the project manager, link with partners (Other NGOs, County government and Faith Based Organizations, in mapping facilities integrated with the project in areas of focus.
    Work together with other stakeholders to ensure that key trainings meet the standard required to facilitate, provide knowledge and required skills

    Advocacy, Engagement, Partnership and Networking

    Advocate for the adoption of suitable technologies in the management of rangelands and livestock.
    Advocate for new models of and best practices in livestock management especially in terms of fodder production and feeding of animals
    Partner with livestock marketing organisations to incentivize the roll out of the livestock sale yard law and the use of livestock markets for the sale of animals
    Partner with institutions involved in rangeland management to review and implement grazing plans and transboundary rangeland resource sharing plans
    Create linkages and synergies among institutions involved in rangelands management
    Support the project manager in overseeing and coordination of relationships with local project stakeholders, with the aim of mobilizing local participants and promoting project activities and their impact.
    Strengthen connections with the broader program and foster productive working relationships with civil society organizations, government representatives, the private sector, and community-based organizations.

    Other duties

    Perform any other duty as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time.

    Ensure that business processes, standards and guidelines related to RAPID+ Project initiatives are effectively applied on a timely manner in project implementation including integration of cross cutting themes,
    Collaborate with relevant ministries and other relevant partners at the County and community levels to ensure integration and high-level implementation of the planned activities
    Together with the project manager, identify other opportunities in an ongoing manner that will add value to the overarching goal of the project

    Required Skills & professional Experience

    At least 2 years work experience in Rangeland Management, Livestock marketing, Food security and/or Livelihoods programming.
    Experience in market systems development is a plus.
    Experience in working on donor funded programs is an added advantage.
    Experience in implementing projects in areas that are prone to resource-based conflicts e.g. Northern Kenya.
    Ability to take initiatives, team player who is able to work with minimum supervision
    Must have outstanding oral and written communications and relationship skills 
    Demonstrated commitment to respect, equity, diversity and inclusion including gender equality.
    Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

    Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

    Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Range Management/Agriculture/Livestock or related development field from a recognized University.

    Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

    Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written).
    A team player, capable of building staff and community capacity through training.

    Job Purpose
    Provides agronomic knowledge and skills to farmers in the assigned duty station.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    Implementation of Program activities in the region.
    Conducting situation assessments, end of project evaluations and generating reports on the same.
    Recruitment and training farmers on conservation agriculture and ensuring they receive quality extension services.
    Conducting follow-ups and farm visits to advise farmers on good agronomic practices, post-harvest management, agroforestry, and farming as a business.
    Collecting data of farmers in assigned stations and compiling it in the database.

    Key Qualifications for Recruitment

    Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Project Management or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
    Minimum one year experience as an agronomist.
