    What you need to success

    Candidate should have degree in Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Engineering or Natural Sciences. or the relevant qualifications or any other relevant field.
    Prior experience on Sustainability certification and/or Quality management systems and/or ISO Standards (i.e. Ecocert, GlobalGAP, Fairtrade…)
    Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar role or field.
    Experience in agricultural and agroforestry development projects, analysis of existing supply chains and production potential of agricultural biomass also for industrial use.
    Ability to design and manage large-scale agricultural and agroforestry interventions.
    Knowledge of agricultural and agro-forestry production systems, with reference to contract farming mechanisms and/or agro-industrial initiatives
    Knowledge of certification processes regarding production traceability, sustainability, calculation of GHG emissions
    Adequate training in GIS & Remote Sensing obtained through appropriate training in the fields of environment, forestry, topography, agriculture, geology, computer science.
    Proficiency in the use of GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS or related software.

    About the Project 

    The Climate-Resilient Aquaculture Systems for Africa (CASA) project is a five- year project that will be implemented in Kenya.  The purpose of the project is to reduce poverty, improve food and nutrition security, and improve adaptive capacity to climate change by strengthening the sustainable development of aquaculture systems in Kenya.  
    By the end of the project, it is expected that over 5 million people in Kenya will obtain increased food and nutrition security; over 5,000 fish farmers and processors will have higher incomes and productivity; and over 6,000 new jobs will have been created across aquaculture value chains in Kenya.  
    The intended change at the beneficiary level includes direct increases in income (over 50% for the average farmer-beneficiary). At the institutional level, significant improvements in local capacity to sustainably grow aquaculture production and address challenges are expected to emerge; and at the policy level, new or updated policies and increased investments in aquaculture by policymakers are expected. 

    About the Position 

    We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Leader to oversee and manage the implementation of the CASA project. The project aims to transform the lives of stakeholders in aquatic food systems across Kenya, addressing the climate change challenges and offers the opportunity to deliver transformative food systems interventions in these countries. As the Project Leader, you will be responsible for the overall supervision of the project team and oversight of the project implementation.  
    This position will be based in Kenya and will report directly to the Principal Scientist (Genetics). Your primary goal will be to ensure the successful execution of the program, achieving its objectives and contributing to reduce poverty, improve food and nutrition security, and improve adaptive capacity to climate change by strengthening the sustainable development of aquaculture systems Kenya, reaching over 5 million beneficiaries.

    Manage advocacy and networking at the Area Programmes level

    Facilitate APs to implement local level advocacy through the CVA model and ensure that communities are empowered to demand for their rights and hold service providers accountable to promote effective service delivery.

    DCA is seeking to recruit a competent and energetic Kenyan Nationals for two positions as Project Assistant – Food Security & Livelihoods to support supporting the implementation and coordination of food security and livelihood projects targeting refugees and host community in Turkana West Sub County. The positions are based in Kakuma and report to the Project Officer – Food Security & Livelihoods (PO – FSL). The postholders will collaborate closely with DCA Financial Inclusion colleagues, humanitarian and development partners in the FSL sector, and community members to ensure the successful execution of project activities aimed at enhancing food security and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable populations.

    The main responsibilities of the Project Assistant – FSL are:

    Take lead in identification of project participants in line with DCA criteria, while ensuring that the most vulnerable populations are included in project activities.
    Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of FSL project activities in collaboration with line manager/ supervisor and wider project implementation team.
    Actively and continuously identify and inform their supervisor the emerging needs and priorities of target communities related to FSL.

    Provide technical assistance (on job training) and guidance to project participants to enhance their agricultural production and income-generating activities.
    Build the capacity of incentive workers on technical aspects of their work (FSL) as well as routinely supervise and appraise their work in line with DCA guidelines.
    Collaborate with UNHCR, local partners, line government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of project activities as well as synergy with other ongoing interventions in the project area.

    Qualifications, skills and experience:

    Strong understanding of food security issues, agricultural practices, and livelihood strategies.

    About the Role

    Your focus will be to develop programs and training content to maximize adoption of integrated pest management amongst smallholder farmers. You’ll report to the Global Director of R&D, and work within the Global Impact team. This team combines agronomy, data science, qualitative research and SBC & social marketing skillsets to develop adoptable recommendations, and support country programs to effectively communicate and train farmers on them for maximum uptake.

    You will develop evidence-based IPM extension, promoting approaches that are proven to reduce pest pressure and increase yields, through training and extension approaches that are informed by instructional design principles, adult learning and SBC theories. You will develop and test training, extension and decision-support tools using HCD methodology, then scale these and validate impact through measured improvements in farmer knowledge, attitude and adoption.

    Responsibilities

    Research

    Oversight over surveys to characterize farmers’ pest challenges and adoption of IPM practices
    Literature reviews, rapid evidence assessments, expert consultation etc. to identify impactful pest prevention and control technologies.
    There may also be opportunities to work on innovation projects around pest diagnostics, threat forecasting and surveillance, and on-farm experimentation to evaluate novel pest management technologies

    Extension

    Develop IPM recommendations. Translate research-based IPM approaches and into simplified recommendations and protocols that empower smallholder farmers with limited resources to meaningfully reduce pest pressure and increase yields.
    Test and improve scalable IPM training and decision-support tools through design workshops and piloting with extension workers and farmers

    Strategy

    Develop IPM extension / communications strategies that integrate print, audio, digital and in-person training and communication tools to maximize reach and cost-effectiveness.
    Define indicators to monitor and evaluate the scale and quality of IPM strategy implementation (e.g. in terms of farmer uptake of IPM, pesticide usage), and generate recommendations for improvement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Program Planning, Implementation & Monitoring

    Carbon Development

    Provide support to the development of the program’s carbon development outcomes as contained in the programme’s Logical Framework (LF) and Detailed Implementation Plans (DIPs) including Project Design Document, validation, verification and other carbon related matters.
    Coordinate stakeholder mapping, analysis, engagement and reporting according to applicable carbon standard at all levels of the project cycle including but not limited to FPIC, contracting farmer groups and distribution of revenue generated from carbon credits.
    Contribute technical expertise toward monitoring, annual reporting, development of monitoring reports and disseminate lessons learned to the programme staff.
    Timely source, synthesize, package, store and disseminate carbon-related documents to different project stakeholders while Ensuring compliance with funder requirements, contract terms, and environmental guidelines;

    Environmental & Social Governance (ESG)

    Ensure implementation and effective monitoring of the Programme’s Environmental and Social Governance policies and protocols.

    Carry out regular check-ins with Programme partners on areas of ESG non-compliance and ensure that relevant corrective actions are developed and agreed upon, and that the latter are effectively implemented and closed out in a timely manner.
    Coordinate implementation of the programme’s ESG activities with the relevant parties including the CP’s ESG focal point persons and other programme staff as part of reporting and submission to fulfilll all donor requirements.

    Initiate and support timely preparation and submission of the program’s periodic (monthly, quarterly and annual) ESG-I and carbon development related reports and core documents as per WVK    guidelines and donor requirements.

    Partnership & Networking

    Collaborate with stakeholders to establish platforms for dialogue, feedback and grievance handling mechanism for the program, knowledge sharing, and joint decision-making to address ESG-I challenges.
    Represent the program in relevant forums, conferences, and meetings to advocate for ESG-I integration and share best practices.
    Actively participate in the programme meetings, and other WVK forums and meetings as appropriate
    Contribute to engagement, publications, to communicate program progress and successes on ESG
    Actively participate and make contributions to Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) as and when required.

    KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

    Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Conservation or a closely related field from a recognized University/Institution.
    MUST be registered with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) as a Lead Expert
