    About The Role
    This position will provide overall direction and momentum for CIP’s potato research and development program leading a multi-disciplinary team of scientists in Africa, Asia and Latin America. CIP emphasizes the broader agri-food system context of its crop research, addressing critical challenges of sustainable intensification, climate resilience, scalability of innovations, gender and inclusive economic growth.     What are we looking for?

    PhD in an agriculture related field with 10+ years of experience post-PhD; recognized achievements and strong publication/grant record, and demonstrated success in agricultural research.
    Managerial experience in leading a set of diverse teams, scientists, and direct reports(10+)across numerous countries including Asia, LATAM, or Africa.
    Experience with strategic development and implementation in potato-related or propagated crop research programs in developed and developing countries is highly preferred.

    Job Description

    The Agricultural Productivity Specialist is responsible for leading Priority Area 2, Diverse Agricultural and Improved Productivity.
    He/She will manage the day-to-day activities with farmer organizations and private sector agricultural value chain actors.
    He/She will lead and coordinate the implementation of all the project activities related to productivity with special focus on enhancing the market system to strengthen farmer access to improved inputs, effective extension, strengthening farm level service delivery including AI, animal health, and post-harvest handling, etc.
    In addition, the specialist will oversee all nutrition, climate smart and environmental interventions which fall under the productivity component.
    Responsibilities:

    Supervise a team of six full-time staff, as well as short-term technical assistance related to Priority Area 2 – Productivity.
    Assist the Chief of Party and Technical Director to ensure timely project implementation and technical reliability, monitor project activities, and ensure quality for all Productivity related interventions.
    Coordinate the development, implementation and reporting on detailed component management plans that includes implementation plans, deliverable tracking, etc., in assigned area of responsibility.
    Track and report biweekly, quarterly and annually on component programmatic achievements as required for project deliverable reporting. Produce technical and/or operational reports and updates for deliverable reporting and project success stories.
    Develop and lead project strategy for facilitating agricultural intensification and diversification, including implementation of a strategy for county partnerships and strengthening of existing public and private extension systems.

    Relevant Experience:

    Master’s degree and 9 years of experience or Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    7-10 years of experience implementing large, complex USG agricultural development and competitiveness projects.
    5+ experience in partnership development, grants and subcontract development and management, impact monitoring, and USG regulatory compliance.
    5+ years demonstrated managerial and supervisory experience, including excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to motivate staff to be accountable for program outcomes. Experience mentoring and building capacity of national staff.

    Project Overview And Role
    Palladium seeks a Senior Technical Advisor of resilience for the anticipated USAID “Strengthening Agriculture and Regional Resilience (STARR)” activity that spans across all East African Community (EAC) countries (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda), and additional countries in East Africa (Zambia, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti and Ethiopia). The STARR activity will promote increased agricultural production, investment, trade and resilience to shocks and stresses in the East Africa region by addressing agricultural issues that can mainly be solved on a regional basis. STARR’s interventions will be directed through four interrelated project component areas: 1) strengthening cross-border agriculture trade and value chains, 2) improved regional agricultural inputs, 3) strengthening resilience, and 4) strengthening the regional policy environment.
    Purpose of Position
    The Component 3 Lead will lead implementation of all activities aimed at achieving all the cross-cutting Component 3 goals including improved ability of people, households, communities, countries, and systems to mitigate, adapt to and recover from shocks and stresses in a manner than reduces vulnerability and facilitates inclusive growth.
    Responsibilities

    Provide technical and managerial support to develop and implement innovative strategies to improve regional resilience, including crop and livestock storage systems, drought resistant cropping and livestock systems, and use of weather response and adapting technologies.
    As this component is cross-cutting, ensure resilience efforts are closely linked and integrated across all other components.
    Liaise with regional private and public stakeholders to ensure cohesive approach and implementation of resilience activities. These activities include trade enhancing systems such as efficient storage, transportation, and flows of crops and livestock across borders during emergencies.
    Build capacity of regional institutions, private sector associations, regulatory officials, and cross border coordination bodies to prepare for and respond to key constraints during shocks.
    Strengthen existing informal and/or formal regional level safety net programs.

    Requirements

    Advanced degree in agriculture, animal husbandry, environmental science, economics, international development or other closely related field.
    At least 5 years of relevant or associated experience in resilience-related areas of food security, trade policy, disaster risk management and mitigation, or climate-smart agriculture.
    Prior experience working directly with agricultural/pastoral communities to improve their ability to adapt to shocks required.
    Fluency in English and a local East African language required.
    Experience across East Africa strongly preferred. Preference will be given to local East Africa country candidates.
    Previous experience working on donor-funded international development projects a plus.

    Soil Fertility Expert

    IFDC seeks to recruit a Soil Fertility Expert to be based in Accra, Ghana or Nairobi, Kenya and reports to the Deputy Director, Field Research, based in Nairobi. Working closely with project Chiefs of Parties, Team Leaders and technical staff, the Soil Fertility Expert will support the projects’ productivity objectives of sustainable and profitable increases in agricultural productivity and product quality in the developing world, while safeguarding the natural resource base on which many small-scale producers depend. This work focuses on the introduction and use of best agricultural practices, with specific attention to integrated soil fertility management (ISFM), defined as a set of soil fertility management practices adapted to local conditions that will maximize agronomic use efficiency of nutrients and improve crop productivity. Such practices include the use of balanced mineral fertilizer, soil amendments (lime, rock phosphate, organic inputs), improved germplasm, agro-forestry and the use of rotations or intercropping with legumes. As many IFDC programs also have a strong agribusiness component, the Soil Fertility Expert will stimulate demand for technical interventions in the context of a market driven value chain approach concept. The Soil Fertility Expert will also contribute to IFDC’s research agenda and publications related to fertilizer technology and market development.
    The Soil Fertility Expert is open to nationals from Kenya or West Africa, as well as international applicants.
    Responsibilities

    Qualifications

    Demonstrated expertise and a minimum of five years of chief-of-party experience in managing large (at least $5 million), complex livestock and/or agricultural development programs (the experience may include experience with donor projects, regional programs or country programs) with a private sector/market systems development and/or livelihoods focus, preferably within an African context.
    Additional experience that USAID will consider towards the five years’ experience include experience as a Team Leader, or Country Director.Demonstrated ability to be collaborative across projects and strong communications and interpersonal skills, with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, NGOs, research institutions).

    Position Reports to: Project Coordinator
    Position
    The HACA Agricultural Officer will support the achievement of the program’s agricultural production and marketing objectives principally through leading the program’s capacity building strategy with program partners and beneficiaries. In addition, the Agricultural Officer will oversee efforts that lead to increased and improved linkages between small farmers, farmer organizations, relevant government ministries and the private sector.
    Main tasks and responsibilities

    Farmer mobilization, recruitment and enrollment into the HACA poultry, dairy and crop production interventions (poultry, green gram, dairy)
    Set up and manage a number of chick brooders, sourcing of chicks from hatchers, and brooding the chicks to 4 weeks while administering the relevant vaccines
    Carrying out practical demonstrations relating to poultry production
    Advising farmers on group formation, construction of farm structures and equipment
    Plan and execute the best strategies in formulation of agribusiness products that will attract customers in the market especially poultry and pulses crops
    Undertake marketing of produce to ensure maximized returns and keep good relations with farmer clients
    Take lead in setting up and management of the credit management model through the farmer groups/Self Help Groups
