    A 4 to 6 months mostly remote assignment, some regular in-person interactions with team members in Nairobi (Kenya) should be expected depending on candidate location and Covid-19 restrictions, starting date asap.

    Job description
    You will be fully integrated into the Sustainable Energy team managing the Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund (“EEGF”), a US$120m fund launched end 2019 to provide catalytic financing for early and growth-stage companies operating in the access to energy ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa. Your tasks will include researching and preparing studies on specific market segments, supporting the team at all stages of the investment process from screening through execution and monitoring / post-investment support as well as involvement in related projects depending on business needs.

    Candidate Requirements

    Strong academic background, preferably in Economics, Business Administration, or Finance.
    Strong analytical and organizational skills.
    Proficient use of MS Office suite.
    Business development and/or strategy consulting skills.
    Affinity with impact investment and/or renewable energy topics.
    Ability to work both autonomously and in teams.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Job Details
    The Finance and Admin Intern will support the Finance Officer in financial and related administrative matters of the Center for Domestic Training and Development and affiliated projects. The Finance and Admin Intern shall at all times act in accordance with CDTD’s policies and their responsibilities will include:-

    Assist with the financial reporting for CDTD and affiliated projects, in a timely, accurate, relevant and informative manner
    Assist in budget formulation and management with the support of the Finance Officer.
    Preparation of bills, invoices, inventory reports, account statements and other financial statements
    Assist with maintaining accounts general ledgers;- code, enter, verify and reconcile transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll etc. using Quick Books
    Assist with audit preparations and liaison with the Finance Officer and Auditors
    Assist in monitoring the office and kitchen supply management and inventory controls
    Assist in procurement processes
    Filing and record keeping of payment and requisition vouchers
    Assist in coordinating office equipment repairs and property maintenance and report in a timely manner
    Reviewing and processing of the requisitions ensuring that they are properly supported and that the relevant templates are used and duly approved.
    Assisting with the processing of monthly statutory payments e.g. PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, Withholding Tax etc.
    Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
    Perform other duties as requested

    Knowledge, Experience & Personal Attributes Required

    Bachelor of Commerce (Finance/Accounts Option)
    Certified Public Accountant Section 1 or more
    3 months or more experience in an NGO setting
    Excellent Excel Skills
    Knowledge of QB software an added advantage
    Good communication Skills (written and verbal)
    Attention to detail
    Confident and good interpersonal skills
    Proactive

    Responsibilities for the Finance & Admin Internships in Kenya
    Assist in maintaining Petty cash book; completely up to date, including record of reconciliations
    Assist in reconciliations of the cash books to the bank statements and GL
    Assist in postings into Apogee accounting software
    Assist in Preparing withholding tax certificates;
    Assist in Filing all Finance and Administration documents
    Assist in VAT exemption processing
    From time to time provide support to AVU projects including bulk photocopying, scanning and binding of documents and any other logistical support;
    The intern shall perform any other duties that may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor.
    Competencies 
    Must be a mature, respectful and honest person of high integrity that is able to work in a team and make meaningful contributions to the team objective.Good communication and sound report-writing skills will be an added advantage.Should be quick in understanding, keen in taking instructions, and able to work with minimum supervision.Should be willing, ready and able to perform other duties as delegated to him/her by the supervisor.
    Qualifications for the Finance & Admin Internships 
    Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance or Accounting option;
    Qualified CPA part II or equivalent in ACCA;
    Keen and pays attention to detail;
    Ability to work well within a team
    Possess Excel spread sheet and word-processing programs at a highly proficient level;
    Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines;
    Detail-oriented with good multi-tasking abilities and communication skills, both oral and written;
    Must be numerate;
    Exposure to one or more computerised accounting packages will be an added advantage;
    The candidate must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of a Finance Intern;
    Flexibility and a can-do approach to tasks and the ability to adapt to a changing and challenging environment;
    Modalities The interns are expected to work from Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm
    Duration: 4.5 months
    Reporting: The interns will report to the Manager, Finance and Administration and will work closely with the Finance Officer.
    The successful candidates will be appointed for an initial 4.5 months. This position is based at AVU offices in Nairobi, Kenya.
