    Scope of work:
    The selected national and international consultants will work under the direction of the Regional Communications Advisor to write, edit and/or proofread English language documents, ensuring high quality content for publication purposes, in line with the following:
    Writing

    Gathering information on project-specific areas related to UNFPA’s work
    Writing drafts, editing and proofreading the drafts
    Checking for conceptual or grammatical errors in drafts
    Demonstrating excellent writing ability
    Revising drafts as needed
    Adhering to deadlines
    Coordinating deliverables with UNFPA project staff

    Basic copyediting

    Ensure consistency of editorial style
    Enter editorial changes to text and tables electronically using track changes
    Check grammar (verb–subject agreement, dangling participles, incorrect or unclear use of pronouns, etc.) and punctuation for correctness and consistency
    Check spelling for correctness, conformity to the UN Editorial Manual, and consistency
    Eliminate jargon, wordiness and inappropriate abbreviations
    Check references, cross-referencing, titles, names, captions, organizations, event titles, etc.
    Propose editorial changes in documents for greater clarity or impact
    Check and add web links as appropriate
    Ensure consistency in brand style
    Check for proper sequencing (such as alphabetical order) in lists and other displayed material
    Prepare a list of proposed changes to figures or enter changes manually on a printed copy and scan the latter
    Eliminate abbreviations as far as possible and ensure that essential abbreviations are spelled out at the first mention
    Delete excessive italic, boldface, and quotation marks
    Check spelling and presentation of Member States’ names in accordance with the official list of Member State names
    Check proper names (for cities, international conventions, conferences, nongovernmental organizations, named individuals, etc.)
    Edit chapter titles, sections, subsections, lists and table, figure and text box captions for brevity, consistency and parallel construction, and check numbering
    Ensure that UN referencing style has been used for reference lists and bibliographies, and that the information for each reference is complete
    Check that the titles of references cited correspond to the subject matter in the text at the point of citation
    Check that any tables, figures, text boxes, annexes, and web annexes are correctly cited in the text
    Check for and eliminate or query discriminatory language
    Edit or prepare a table of contents
    Prepare instructions for the graphic designer, if needed
    Revise the material to take account of comments of reviewers.

    Substantive editing
    Perform all the tasks for a light edit, in addition to the following:

    Rewrite text where necessary to improve flow
    Change text and headings to achieve parallel structures
    Ensure consistent style and tone
    Ensure previews and summaries reflect content
    Flag unclear or incorrect statements
    Monitor the overall structure for logical flow and balance and advise/consult on how to rectify if necessary
    Rewrite, reorganise, or shorten the text to improve logical structure or argument and make communication more effective
    Draft new text as needed
    Eliminate unnecessary and repeated material
    Make suggestions on layout, as appropriate
    Revise the material to take account of comments of reviewers and additional material supplied by the author(s).

    Proofreading

    Ensure consistency of written and visual content in line with the UN online editorial manual as a style guide
    Review text files and page proofs and correct typographical or formatting errors
    Ensure that page numbers, chart labels and captions are error-free
    Ensure that changes made at the proof stage are accurately made by the designer.

    Experience
    Essential:

    A Master’s degree and at least 7 years’ relevant experience as a writer and/or editor at national or international level; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of experience.
    Experience editing for United Nations agencies and/or intergovernmental organizations.
    At least 6 samples of relevant previous work submitted with application.

    Desirable:

    Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights programming, particularly for adolescent girls and young women, is an advantage.
    Experience of writing and/or editing UNFPA publications and/or communication materials. 

    Skills:

    In-depth knowledge of current editorial techniques, procedures and publishing standards.

    Responsibilities
    The incumbent will coordinate the implementation of the Programme on “Countering Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Illicit Drug Trafficking”, which is aimed at enhancing the capacity of Member States in the region to respond effectively to transnational organized crime. This entails the provision of ongoing policy advice and technical guidance to Governments and regional authorities in the field of preventing and countering organized crime, including illicit trafficking of drugs, firearms and natural resources, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, as well as border management, border security and support to reform processes to improve the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of related offences. Within delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer (Head of Programme – Countering Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Illicit Drug Trafficking) will be responsible for the following duties:

    Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of the Programme on “Countering Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking and Illicit Drug Trafficking” of the Regional Programme.
    Develop and formulate relevant programmes on preventing and countering illicit drug trafficking, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, trafficking of firearms and natural resources, and other organized crime, including border management and border security.
    Supervise and coordinate the work of the Programme staff to ensure effective implementation and management of the projects that fall under the Programme; ensure synergy with other programmes in ROEA, contribute and ensure coordination among the relevant personnel and units at ROEA and UNODC Headquarters (HQ) in particular with regard to the administrative set up of the activities, recruitment of staff and consultants, subcontracting of services and financial monitoring and reporting.
    Ensure regular communication with all stakeholders, and ensure that reporting obligations and other obligations towards the donors and other stakeholders are fulfilled in a timely manner.
    Monitor national and regional situations and support the development of improved evidence-based knowledge on the status and characteristics of organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, trafficking in persons, natural resources, border management, border security and other areas by providing analysis on major trends and modus operandi of transnational criminal networks throughout the region.
    Prepare and draft a variety of written outputs, such as background papers, progress reports, evaluation reports, mission reports, briefings and presentations.
    Conduct assessments of ongoing law enforcement measures and national and regional capabilities and suggest strategies and actions for their improvement, including measures to prevent and counter the infiltration of transnational criminal networks in Eastern Africa.
    Provide policy advice and technical guidance to Governments and regional authorities in the field of preventing and countering organized crime and illicit trafficking (of drugs, trafficking in persons, smuggling of migrants, firearms and natural resources, border management, border security). Maintain contact on law enforcement issues with international bodies and organizations and work closely with liaison officers and donor representatives in charge of law enforcement matters in Africa. Actively pursue the identification of funding possibilities for the above-described UNODC programme areas in Eastern Africa.
    Represent UNODC in major meetings and conferences in the region related to transnational organized crime issues.
    Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

    Work Experience

    A minimum of seven years of professional, progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, police reform, security sector, crime prevention and criminal justice matters is required.
    Work experience in working to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants is required
    Work experience in technical cooperation programme planning and management is required
    Work experience in a criminal justice system and/or law enforcement at senior level is desirable.
    Work experience in a field environment Africa is desirable
    Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Overview

    The Global Devops Pipeline Manager is responsible for designing, developing, installing, maintaining and supporting JEMS—an enterprise solution for Jhpiego — with the Engineering team. They will collaborate on task assignments with the engineering team; and manage the junior engineers.  This position is specifically designed to interface with the Systems Analysts to translate business requirements into technical requirements and communicate those with the other engineers.  This position collaborates with the network team on performance improvements and with IT staff to prepare for deployments and support. This position leads and manages development activities, including planning, timelines, task assignments, quality assurance, and reporting. They may also conduct presentations and attend meetings with Jhpiego management.

    Responsibilities

    Interfacing with systems analyst to oversee the planning of development projects.
    Ensuring that the engineering team is respresented in the planning and implementation of projects
    Design new and modify current JEMS modules; analyze requirements; construct workflow charts and diagrams; study system capabilities and write specifications, per Jhpiego requirements.

    Provide technical support as may be required by the helpdesk team.
    Setup of new JEMS server environments.
    Conduct data migration from old to new systems, data cleaning, and reporting.
    Conduct continuous development based on system analysis and specifications to keep JEMS and other systems performing optimally and current with changing requirements and technologies

    Interfacing JEMS with other Jhpiego systems
    Determining and assessing new or existing applications from the various countries and integrating them with JEMS or other systems within the Jhpiego solutions estate.
    Assess and advice on new system needs for any of the Jhpiego countries both independent of and complimenting JEMS global.
    Advice on new infrastructural needs to go with the new systems of to improve the current ones.
    Overseeing the deployment pipeline and ensuring best practices are followed.

    Responsibilities

    Man, the 24-hour Medical Situation Control Centre (SITCEN), on shift work rotation basis (which covers day and Night shifts):

    Respond to Medical emergency calls in Gigiri and any mass casualties affecting UN in the entire region;
    Assist Medical Officer in providing adequate care to patients;

    Duties

    Provide technical guidance and support to UNHCR and partners on all protection related issues.

    Responsibilities
    Under the supervision of the Chief, Design and Construction Section, the Architect will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

    Analyzes and advises on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of major systems and facilities such as building superstructures, major interior spaces, horizontal and vertical circulation paths, roads, landscape architecture, and related structures and other architectural activities in the field needed for the project.
    Evaluates, reviews and revises project documents, and analyzes design specifications included in project proposals for accuracy, soundness, feasibility and cost.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    The Swiss funded UN-REDD Africa Forestry Forum (AFF) partnership will contribute to improved REDD+ implementation and increased results-based payments in the African region, the overall goals of the project are to:

    Strengthen African countries’ REDD+ capacities and knowledge,
     enhance sectoral policy coordination to guide appropriate REDD+ strategies and decision-making.

    This position is home-based in Africa, under the supervision of Programme Management Officer UN-REDD Programme.
    Working as part of the UN-REDD KM and Africa team and responding to partner country needs, outlined in the UN-REDD AFF prodoc, the project management and capacity development consultant will be responsible for facilitating a close coordination and collaboration with AFF as well as a timely delivery of the high-quality outputs expected from project implementation, such as knowledge exchanges, policy dialogues, trainings, communities of practice and advocacy side events. Furthermore, the consultant will support communicating success stories and lessons learned from UN-REDD’s African partner countries.
    The consultant will perform the following tasks:

    Coordinate collaboration across three UN-REDD partner agencies, the project partner AFF and African governmental counterparts.
    Lead the implementation of the project following its concept note, work plan, and list of deliverables.
    Lead the contextualization of existing UN-REDD knowledge.
    Lead the production of new knowledge products to fill gaps in UN-REDD material.
    Lead the organization of Africa-specific webinars based on the REDD+ Academy.
    Lead the organization of Africa-specific training based on the REDD+ Academy.
    Lead the production of policy briefs.

    Qualifications/special skills

    A Master’s Degree in social or environmental sciences is required. A bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.
    A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in project management is required.
    A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in capacity development is required.
    Experience working on REDD+ and/or Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use
    AFOLU) is desirable.
    Experience working with African governments is desirable.
    Experience working with international organizations is desirable

    Skills:
