The Individual Contractor should be available to work for 6 months from 7 July 2021 with a possibility of an extension for a further 3 months.
Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda and promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

The Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit oversees the education outreach and a series of youth projects for UNEP at its headquarters in Nairobi. This includes everything from engaging Universities that are part of the Youth and Education Alliance to engaging with partners in the gaming industry and youth movements

The Individual contractor will be located in UNEP / Ecosystems Division, Youth, Education & Advocacy Unit.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Youth, Education & Advocacy Unit, the Individual Contractor will have the following responsibilities:

Partnerships: Support the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge programme as the main focal point for partners and support them in reporting and in project implementation;
Project Management: Support the implementation of the programme in at least 5 African countries as the focal point for the Youth, Education and AdvocacyUnit;
Communications and Outreach: Support the delivery of success stories on Tide Turners programme
Events: Lead the organization of online event to promote the programme;
Reporting and Monitoring: Assist with the delivery of monthly progress report from partners providing monthly report for the donor and compiling financial and narrative reports
Administration: Support in the creation of legal agreements with the partners and support the process of allocation of funding

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: The Individual Contractor should have a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Education, Business or equivalent
Experience: Eligible candidates should also have at least three years of professional experience in project management and youth programs. Able to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively.

In addition, the Individual Contractor should have excellent English language writing skills, be computer literate in standard software applications; be able to work independently; and have good interpersonal skills.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required
