The main purpose of the job is to provide leadership and play an active role in the implementation of the Youth 4 Health project. The project seeks to increase demand for and access to high-quality, discrimination-free adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights information, education, and services. The Project Officer will build capacities of different stakeholders to deliver age-appropriate reproductive health information to vulnerable adolescents in Muhoroni and Seme Sub-Counties and advocate for favorable policy and legislative environment that supports adolescent and young people’s access to reproductive health information and services. The Project Officer is expected to make a positive contribution to the overall mission of CSA.
Responsibilities of the job:
Develop and monitor the implementation of work plans & budgets for the project in Kisumu County.
Liaise with key county government decision-makers, CSO’s and community leaders to build consensus and support for provision of age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education [CSE].
Support and implement capacity-building plans for adolescents, teachers, health workers, and religious leaders in delivery of age-appropriate CSE.
Pilot test CSE interventions in Kisumu including the development of CSE newspaper pull-outs.
Conduct social media campaigns on CSE and provide accurate CSE messaging.
Conduct Advocacy forums with policymakers in Kisumu County in line with the project’s joint advocacy strategy
Work with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kisumu County to develop and implement advocacy initiatives in line with the Youth for Health project.
Build partnerships and collaborations with media houses to ensure accurate and positive CSE reporting.
Initiate and maintain partnerships and networks with national and county stakeholders for coordination and harmonizing CSE/SRHR interventions.
Support monitoring, evaluation and operational research where needed for the project.
Produce and disseminate learning documents/success stories for the project.
Produce timely narrative and financial reports according to the formats and standards required by the donor.
Desired Qualifications
A Degree in social sciences.
Minimum of three years’ experience working in community advocacy
Good understanding of the program cycle management
Excellent research, interpretation, and critical analysis skills to evaluate context, data, and legislation.
Ability to establish and maintain strong and broad stakeholder relationships.
Excellent writing, analytical, and verbal skills
Ability to work as part of a diverse and multicultural team.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
Adaptability, efficiency, highly disciplined, high level of autonomy, good organizational skills
Willingness to travel
