Position Summary
The Website Developer/Communications Intern is an exciting opportunity for a young professional working to expand their portfolio through strengthening Global Trauma Project’s communications strategy and media presence. The position entails web design/ editing, and building a stronger media presence through articles, social media, and publications. This is an unpaid internship, requiring approximately 30 hours/ week. (Schedule and length of duration are flexible and can be discussed.) The position requires working closely with GTP’s main office in Diani, Kenya, and could potentially require travel to project locations in South Sudan, etc.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Website Designer/ Communications Intern are to:
Update, restructure, and improve the GTP website.
Publish content to the website’s content management system (currently WordPress.)
Manage GTP’s website and social media presence (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn).
Assist in development, formatting, and publication of GTP newsletters, reports, and other materials for publication.
Assist in search engine optimization (SEO), web user experience, and content marketing.
Produce graphic designs, photo documentation, and films as needed and relevant to storytelling about GTP’s work.
Assist with the definition of GTP’s target audiences and lead in the outreach to those groups and their requirements.
Provide technical assistance in regards to launching, marketing, and dissemination of GTP communications material.
Monitor adherence to GTP’s brand for all external communications in close collaboration with the Program Director.
Generate content/ stories for GTP’s website, media sources, newsletter, reports, etc. which highlight the importance of GTP’s work.
Develop and maintain GTP’s image/ media database.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The Intern may be required to perform duties that are beyond the scope of the job description in mutual discussion and agreement with the supervisor.

Qualifications
Degree in media and communication or journalism, or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience
Knowledge of and proficient in use of computer applications related to web editing and graphic design
Ability to use photo/ video storage products
Knowledge and experience of production of printed material (layout, writing/ content, printing)
Knowledge of the basics of HTML
Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of one or more of the other African Union languages is an advantage.
Administrative qualifications and experience
Good public relations skills
Ability to work in tight deadlines in a dynamic, multicultural, and fast-paced work environment
