Vice Chancellor

Main Responsibilities

As the Chief Executive and the Academic and Administrative head of the University, the Vice – Chancellor will provide dynamic and overall strategic leadership to the University by fostering teamwork in delivering the strategic objectives of the University.
Provide direction and lead the various teams at the University to optimal policy, organizational, administrative, academic, programmatic, and financial outcomes.
Spearhead and coordinate resource mobilization, fundraising, partnerships and expanding the mission of the University to achieve its vision.  
Provide direction and oversight on quality assurance and integrity of processes at the University.
Shall be a member and secretary to the University Council and Board of Trustees; and ensure implementation of their decisions.
Responsible for ensuring that the University complies with regulatory and legal requirements.
Fosters collegial governance within the University and in its relationship with the University Council, the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees;
Shall chair the Management Board, Senate and any other University Committees as may be provided for in the Statutes.
In consultation with the Senate, the Management Board and the Chancellor, shall determine the date of graduation, and of conferment of  degrees, diplomas, certificates and other credentials awarded by the University.
Appoints Chairpersons of Departments, Deans, Directors of Centres and Institutes as provided for in the Statutes; and creates and maintains a depository of relevant Government and University documentations.
Shall be the main representative and the Official Spokesperson of the University
Responsible to the University Council for the general conduct and discipline of the students and staff of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor shall be an ex-officio member of all committees established by the Council and the Board of Trustees.
The Vice-Chancellor may assign or delegate duties to a committee or to a member of the Management Committee or staff of the University and may withdraw any such delegation or assignment.
The Vice-Chancellor shall have such other powers and duties as may be conferred by the University Council in accordance with the Charter.

Job requirements

Be a born-again Christian who is active in the local Church, having proven diverse networks within  the Christian,  academic, business and other communities.
Be a holder of an earned Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized in Kenya.
Be a full Professor or an Associate Professor as an added advantage
Shall have demonstrable and proven record as a dynamic and visionary institutional leader
Demonstrated record of leadership, in formulation and implementation of academic, administrative, and planning programs, development of strategic institutional and industry linkages.
Have experience in networking, partnerships and resource mobilization for research, scholarships and development, and be a team leader with excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Have had at least twelve (12) years of academic, research and managerial experience at a senior level in a University or equivalent institution with demonstrable leadership and management capacity such as having served as a University campus Principal or a Deputy Vice Chancellor position of a University for at least 5 years.
Have proven scholarly and research record demonstrated by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals, monographs, and books in their areas of specialization, and supervision to completion and mentorship of Masters and Doctoral students, in addition to being an accomplished scholar with proven track record in continuing research and publications on pertinent contemporary issues;
Have excellent understanding of University financial policies, strategic planning, Human Resource Management and Procurement processes.
Have clear knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya, as well as excellent understanding of current local and global trends in University education and training and the factors and conditions shaping development of University education.
Be a registered member of professional association/s, where applicable, and be of good standing with a clean disciplinary record in public and/or private sectors; and be of high ethical standards, integrity, and accountability.
