Team Leader – Kenya (Proposal)

Abt Global Britain is seeking a Team Leader (TL) that will be responsible for providing overall leadership and technical direction of all programme activities, regarding a health opportunity funded by the FCDO in Kenya. The TL will be accountable for all programme implementation and deliverables, leading all decisions related to technical, management, contractual, personnel aspects. They will manage the core programme team, as well as short term technical assistance and other external expertise as needed. The TL will act as Abt’s senior representative with all programme stakeholders, including government counterparts, FCDO and will be responsible for successful engagement across all consortium partners.

Employment is contingent upon successful award of the project to Abt, as well as FCDO approval of the finalist.
Core Responsibilities:

Provide strategic oversight, direction, and management across the programme (technical, operational and financial), ensuring adherence to national and international standards.
Performance management of the programme against objectives and indicators, including corrective actions to address review commentary.
Maintain results-focused, adaptive management approaches to refine strategies and deliver long term impact on health service quality, equity and sustainability.
Foster and maintain strong and positive working relationships with FCDO, government counterparts, programme partners, and other key stakeholders.
Develop and manage the programme annual work plan, monitoring and reporting any risks/delivery delays and proposing corrective or mitigation measures.
Manage and mentor the team including direct supervision of some programme staff, closely monitoring performance goals and ensuring relevant continual professional development.
Perform strong financial management, including reporting and budgetary management.
Uphold and deliver on the programme’s commitment to value for money.
Act as an ambassador for Abt Global.
Ensure compliance with FCDO and Abt Global’s codes of conduct, policies and procedures.

Core Requirements:

Significant experience of working in Kenya, with technical, management experience and leadership in health programmes of comparable scope, scale and complexity.
Expertise in health, nutrition or climate.
Master’s degree or its international equivalent in public health, public administration, international development, or a related field. Holding a clinical qualification would be an advantage.
15+ years of senior program management level, including 8+ years of line management experience.
Ability to liaise effectively with key stakeholders, including FCDO, national and local officials, public, private and civil society partners to assure effective collaboration among stakeholders. Strong existing relationships with key stakeholders in Kenya preferred.
Demonstrable operational management capabilities, including knowledge and experience of finance, HR and logistics.
Experience developing project vision, aligning key stakeholders around that vision, and assuring that the vision is translated into implementable strategies.
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary, multicultural teams, and ensure that project staff adhere to the highest standards of quality, relevance, and timeliness.
Experience managing FCDO-funded programmes.
Excellent communication (both oral and written), analytical, organizational , interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills.
Proficiency in English
