Job Purpose
The position is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Bank’s Servers’ infrastructure including activities such as planning, management, and administration of Servers and ensuring that both Live and Disaster Recovery Sites are functional.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Server Health – to ensure that the Bank’s Servers and Storage Infrastructure is operating optimally through:
Proactive monitoring of entire infrastructure to detect bottlenecks and single source of failure and rectifying these problems before any incidence/downtime occurs.
Identify all running software versions that are not supported and upgrade to supported versions.
Ensure that all the servers, hosts and storage are running latest most stable software versions or firmware.
End-point devices support – to ensure that the computers and other end-point devices are operating optimally through:
Identify all running software versions on the endpoints that are not supported
and upgrade to supported versions.
Ensure all computers and laptops are installed with anti-virus software
Ensure all computers and laptops are fully patched
Service Availability – to ensure that all servers and storage components are available to both internal and external access through:
Ensure uptime and accessibility for servers and storage.
Limit unplanned downtime in any eventuality and return the bank to operational status within RTO.
Risk Management – to reduce on the operational risk through:
Ensure closure of the audit findings
Where required, liaise with different stakeholders to ensure closure of the audit findings
Perform Disaster Recovery tests as per the schedule
Service Desk Management – to ensure that all IT requests raised are addressed through:
Ensure closure of tickets as per the defined TAT
Key Performance Indicators (at least 5)
Service availability of 99%
Fully patched servers, storage and endpoints
Closure of audit findings
Conducting disaster recovery tests
Adherence to TAT on tickets
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related field.
At least two years’ experience in server administration role.
Server Administration Certifications including but not limited to MCSA.
Certification in Linux environment is an added advantage.
Competencies and Attributes
Thorough knowledge of Windows, Linux Servers, Windows and Mac endpoints – ability to configure, troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting Windows and Linux Servers, Windows Active Directory and users’ endpoints.
Proficient with management of Data Centre Server infrastructure, DELL EMC storage infrastructure, VMware for virtualization, RPA for replication, Veeam for backups and restore.
Work autonomously – ability to be self-driven and work with minimal supervision.
Good communication and interpersonal skills – ability to communicate with both internal customers and vendors.
Strong problem solving and analysis skills – ability to identify issues in a timely manner and offer solutions.
Works well under pressure – ability to work during off-peak hours
