Job Purpose
The SEN Teacher & Coordinator will lead and support inclusive education across the school, ensuring that all students—those with additional learning needs and those identified as gifted and talented—receive appropriate support. This role involves working closely with teachers to differentiate learning effectively, designing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), supporting students directly and generally fostering a school culture that nurtures every student’s potential.
Key Responsibilities
Individualised and Group Learning & Student Support
Together with teachers, identify students with additional learning needs and those who are gifted and talented, ensuring appropriate interventions.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other support strategies in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external specialists.
Provide small-group and one-to-one support to students as needed, reinforcing learning and confidence-building strategies.
Use a strengths-based approach to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Supporting Teachers & Differentiation
Guide and mentor teachers in differentiating lessons to cater to diverse learning needs within the classroom.
Offer professional development workshops on inclusive teaching strategies, differentiation, and assessment methods.
Co-plan and co-teach where needed, modelling best practices for inclusive education.
Develop and share resources that support adaptive teaching strategies.
Coordination & Collaboration
Serve as the primary contact for special educational needs across the school, ensuring best practices align with school policy.
Facilitate multi-disciplinary meetings involving teachers, parents, and specialists to review student progress and strategies.
Maintain up-to-date records of students receiving additional support and track progress over time.
Advocate for a culture of inclusion, challenge, and support for all students.
Key Competencies & Skills
Relational, supportive teaching style, with a deep commitment to understanding and responding to individual student needs.
Strong knowledge of differentiation strategies, including scaffolding for diverse abilities and enrichment for high-achieving students.
Ability to develop effective IEPs and monitor their impact.
Experience collaborating with teachers to embed inclusive strategies into daily classroom practice.
Skilled in building trust and rapport with students, staff, and families.
Organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
A diploma or degree in Special Educational Needs, Education, or a related field.
Experience working with diverse learning needs in an international school setting.
Experience in SEN coordination and differentiation strategies.
Knowledge of assessment tools and interventions for both support and enrichment.
