Soil & Plant Scientist

At UjuziKilimo, a soil and plant scientist specializes in the study of soil, crops, and other vegetation. They work to understand the complex interactions between plants and their environment, including the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils, as well as the impact of climate, water availability, and other factors on plant growth and development. They will use their knowledge to improve agricultural practices, protect natural resources, and develop new technologies for sustainable food production. They are also responsible for conducting  research on soil, crops, and other agricultural aspects 

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Examines composition of soil regarding plant or crop growth.
Investigates effects of various soil treatment practices on crop productivity.
Identifies opportunities to optimize crop yields and maximize efficiency in use of agricultural inputs.
Demonstrates techniques and modifications to enhance production to farmers and crop developers.
Identifies, develops, and implements methods of conserving and managing soil.
Identifies, develops, and implements methods to control weeds and pests.
Prepares and presents or distributes reports highlighting research findings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Extensive knowledge of agricultural techniques and principles.

Excellent research skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate research findings.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient with use of technology, related software and excellent computer skills.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Agriculture Science or related field required
One to three years of related experience is preferred.
