In this role, you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives with your work. You will work within the Africa Innovation Hub to develop new concepts and translate them into options for innovations with industrial and societal relevance.
You will provide technical solutions that conform to requirements with a strong focus on end-users, high quality (QMS/regulatory standards), performance, safety and security. You will challenge requirements, design and quality, focused on technical leadership.
This will be a 6-month fixed term position (possibility to extend to 1 year).
You are responsible for:
Translating primary customer insights into IT-specific technology propositions (m-health/e-health) that enable primary care performance monitoring based on standard performance metrics and using innovative or non-obtrusive methods including retrospective data, predictive modeling and workflow monitoring, qualitative data.
Specifically;
Create working software in conjunction with the team in a co creation setting
Features driven development in an agile approach
Designs, codes, documents, tests (automated), maintains and deploys software
Supports DevOps in deploying software
Sets, monitors and ensures to meet own performance metrics
Defines, monitors and meets performance and quality metrics
End-user validation of the developed solutions based on standard validation/verification protocols

You will be part of the Africa Innovation Hub, a (we believe, inspiring) group of social entrepreneurs and researchers within Philips that specifically designs new solutions and business models for Africa. Our focus is inclusive innovation: to reach the part of society that is not targeted by traditional business, in this case the rising middle-class and base of the pyramid in Africa.
Philips is the first non-it technology company that opened a research hub in Africa so you’ll be at the forefront of health innovation in Africa and working with both the local and international innovation ecosystem and high-level international organizations and NGOs.
The headquarters of the Philips Innovation Hub are in Kenya, but you will be working with our research hubs in India and Europe too.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
At least 4+ years of software development experience using and an aptitude and love to apply cutting edge UI frameworks (NodeJs, ReactJS, AngularJS, etc)
Hands on experience working with HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and general Web 2.0 techniques
Service Oriented Architecture / Web Services – SOAP / REST
Good understanding of Object Oriented patterns and principles
Experience in working with Lean / agile software development
Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Experience in Software craftsmanship – best in class code quality practices
Good knowledge of JSP / Servlets; Web Frameworks like Struts / Spring is desired
Knowledge of Markup Languages like XML and JSON is desired
Knowledge of basic healthcare standards and protocols (e.g. Dicom, HL7) is desired
Knowledge of AWS technology stacks and services (S3, Glacier, Vault, RDS; HSDP IAM) is desired
Knowledge on SSL, SSO, Oauth2 is desired
