Organisational Context/Role
This is a position based in Kakuma Refugee Camp. The holder will be under the direct supervision of the JRS Counselling Coordinator and takes responsibility for conducting recruitment, interviews, referrals and follow-up of persons with specific needs including the vulnerable within the community.
Responsibilities
Conduct initial interviews and screen all referrals;
Conduct clients’ assessments of all clients accessing The Safe House, aimed at identifying appropriate, relevant interventions;
Develop Individual Development Plans (IDP) for all clients. Conduct therapeutic group work sessions aimed at promoting healing and restoring bell-being;
Conduct awareness campaigns relating to the abuse of women and/or children, particularly sexual abuse and domestic violence against women within the safe shelters;
Conduct a follow for the beneficiaries who have been discharged from the safe shelters and give a report to the safe house coordinator;
Conduct an assessment of the An Unaccompanied Minors AUMs and Foster Parents of the SGBV survivors in the Kakuma Refugee camp for the distribution of Non Food Items;
Help in the distribution of Food and Non Food items to the AUMs and Foster parents of the SGBV survivors;
Represent the JRS Safe Haven in the inter-agency case management meetings and any other as requested by the coordinator;
Develop interview tools including interviewing of clients to understand client’s situation, needs and strengths;
Develop a database for all persons with specific needs within kakuma refugee camp and at the safe houses and ensure confidentiality of beneficiaries is maintained all the time;
In cases of abuse or neglect, he/she will liaise with law enforcement agencies and other partners to address the issue;
Help vulnerable clients get better by recommending adjustment to their health care, lifestyle or housing;
Assess clients referred directly to him/her, and refer them to appropriate agencies
Provide psychological first aid to clients when necessary, through the community counselors will carry out most counselling;
Ensure that clients records are kept up to date and that the principle of confidentiality is adhered to;
Meet regularly with the program Coordinator and report progress and challenges of person with specific needs;
Identifying and developing an understanding of client’s problem by creating an action plan
Refer persons with specific needs to service providing agencies, make follow up on the referral and evaluate the impact of the intervention offered;
Collaborate with Counselling Coordinator on developing new training modules and assist with the weekly in-service training;
Be actively involved in advocacy on behalf of the refugees;
Undertake any other duty and responsibility that may be assigned to her/him.
Qualifications
Education
Undergraduate degree/Diploma in any related field e.g. social work, psychology, counselling, or related field and at least two years practical working experience in community service.
Work experience
Experience in working in the field of social work;
Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities;
Strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning skills;
Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience;
Good knowledge of MS word Office;
Excellent oral and written English;
Ability to work in environment of relief emergency operation;
Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
