The Social Media Officer will play a key role on our marketing team, focusing on managing social media communities, creating and analyzing social media content, and furthering AWF’s value proposition as Africa’s conservation leader across the continent.
Social Media Officer Job Responsibilities
Social Media Content
Create timely, relevant content for Africa-based followers across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Snapchat to establish AWF as Africa’s conservation expert
Create awareness driven social campaigns to grow AWF’s pan African audiences across its social graph
Identify social media trends and potential areas of growth in key African markets
Communicate regularly with Africa-based program staff to stay abreast of program and project developments
Obtain digital and social assets from the field to demonstrate the impact of AWF’s work to global audiences
Act as a liaison between the US-based marketing team and key field staff
Under the supervision of the Social Media Manager, ensure content reflects organizational themes and messaging across all platforms
Facilitate executive training for key Africa-based staff to position them as thought leaders in the social space
Serve as the daily point of contact for Africa-based digital agencies and vendors
Community Management and Influencer Engagement
Provide real-time/near real-time responses to pan African audiences that accurately express organizational positions and views
Build relationships with highly engaged supporters
Seek, cultivate and build relationships with influential African social media users: social influencers, celebrities, and personalities to grow AWF’s reach and brand awareness
Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the organization and escalate to appropriate management as necessary
Social Media Reporting and Analysis
Provide ongoing reports and analysis on Africa-based social media initiatives and key audience metrics to the
Social Media Manager
Conduct ad-hoc reporting as necessary

Qualifications for the Social Media Officer Job
Bachelor’s degree with 3+ year(s) of experience in digital media
Excellent writing and research skills, and knowledge of social media best practices
Proven experience managing large social media audiences
Experience working with social CRM and analytics tools, e.g. Hootsuite, TrueSocial, and others
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Strong interest in digital media and emerging trends in technology
Proactive approach to communications and problem solving
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced collaborative environment while maintaining strict attention to detail
Working knowledge of HTML/CSS, PHP a plus
