Responsibilities
WEA is looking for a Shift Supervisor for Kipevu II Power Plant whose main responsibilities includes the following
Wärtsilä Eastern Africa Ltd has an existing O&M Contract with Tsavo Power up to Mar 2021 for the 80 MW Kipevu II Power Plant in Mombasa, Kenya.

You will be responsible for authorization of the plant shutdown or de-rating if personally convinced that continued operation would lead to extensive damage of equipment, extensive downtime, or compromise the safety of plant personnel.
You will be responsible for issuing and tracking of work orders as per the plant maintenance management system (MAXIMO).
You will be required to give proposals on continuous improvements plans for the Plant.
You will recommend and make changes to the existing standard plant operating procedures.
You will be responsible for the safe and economic operation and maintenance of the plant during the designated shift in addition to comply with all safety regulations including isolation, lock out and tag out.
In your role, you will work closely with the Operations Manager.

Position Description

Maintain Plant power production at the output designated by management.
Operate the Plant within the acceptable loading envelope under plant dispatch directives from utility.
Supervise start-up, shutdown and normal operations of the power plant systems.
Complete and maintain all logs and running records in a clear and concise manner according to guidelines.
Supervise all operations technicians in designated shift.
Take corrective action during system operational disturbance and/or bring such problems to the attention of the Operations Manager.
Communicate effectively the condition of the plant equipment and performance to Plant personnel.
Perform emergency procedures in order to protect personnel and equipment in case of damage or failure of safety deficiencies.
Utilize all tools, equipment, and accessories in such a manner so as to maximize useful operating life.
Assist in the safe and efficient operation of the plant by bringing violations of subordinates to the attention of the Operations Manager.
Provide the relieving shift operator with a complete handover bringing to his attention any operational disturbances, malfunctions or abnormalities.
Perform planned and corrective maintenance as directed and as needed and to account for all parts and materials, supplies and fluids used in the performance of that work.
Implement and maintain plant maintenance management system (MAXIMO)
Track plant statistical performance, production, root cause analysis and make recommendation to the Operation manager.
Update plant operation data and create plant statistical reports as required.

Education

BSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or the equivalent preferred)
Technical training

Experience

5 to 8 years of progressive experience in operation and/or maintenance of a Power Plant
Medium speed diesel experience
Supervisory experience
