Senior Regional Communications Specialist, RISE

Responsibilities
Strategy Implementation, Product and Content Development

Lead the implementation of the project’s overall communication plan and the detailed communications activities in alignment with the approved communications strategy
In collaboration with project leadership and technical contributors, support teams to develop presentations for donors and other external stakeholders on the RISE project, areas of technical expertise, achievements across countries, and other priority content
Support development of project deliverables (e.g. fact sheets, technical and programmatic briefers, capacity statements, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual reports,)
Support maintenance and availability of project templates (with appropriate branding) and ensure alignment with USAID’s Graphic Standards Manual and Partner Co-Branding Guide, and other relevant USG guidance and regulations

Country Communications Support and Engagement

Support RISE country teams to develop and implement communications plans, in coordination with the project’s technical leadership, and program management units
Support writing, editing, and/or review of success stories, newsletter articles, blog posts, PowerPoint presentations, or other external communications products
Manage social media engagement for the project overall, liaising with relevant Jhpiego and partner social media focal persons to ensure alignment with social media engagement guidelines, and supporting RISE country teams to plan and execute social media engagement strategies
Provide guidance to RISE country teams and partners on project Branding and Marking Plan and review and advise country teams on the application of project branding/marking.

External Communications and Engagement

Regularly identify communication opportunities and ideas for web features, and social media and work with relevant team members to feature these regularly on appropriate platforms
Manage social media engagement for the project overall, liaising with relevant Jhpiego and partner social media focal persons to ensure alignment with social media engagement guidelines, and supporting RISE country teams to plan and execute social media engagement strategies
Liaise with communications counterparts at USAID and with project partners to coordinate the development and dissemination of strategic communications materials
Work with Jhpiego’s communications department to update and maintain the RISE external website sub-page
Support development, review, layout, copy editing, and USAID review for conference abstracts and presentations
Support planning for RISE attendance, exhibitions, satellite events, etc.
Ensure consistent project branding and messaging across all event and conference materials
Support the promotion of RISE engagement at relevant conferences through social media, e-blasts, and other digital promotion strategies

Knowledge Management

Collaborate with the RISE Knowledge Management team to implement the RISE KM strategies and approach in alignment with the overall communications plan
Support management of project KM including contributions to maintaining the project intranet site, dissemination of project deliverables

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years’ experience in communications, public affairs and marketing
Strong writing and editing skills
Experience producing various types of online and print material required
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Prior experience with social media tools and websites
Strong experience with USAID required, knowledge of PEPFAR, CDC, or other US government funding agencies preferred
Experience with HIV/AIDS and/or COVID response programming preferred
Demonstrated ability to work with both scientific/technical (e.g. technical program briefs) and non-technical (e.g. marketing) materials
High degree of decision-making and problem-solving abilities
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, a high level of organization and ability to balance competing priorities
Self-starting capabilities and comfortable with qualitative and quantitative evaluation
Experience with event design and management abilities as well as attention to detail
Ability to handle budgets and produce within set parameters
French language skills a plus
Familiarity with WordPress, HTML, CSS and JavaScript preferred
Ability to project a professional image and communicate positively and effectively as a representative of Jhpiego, both within The Johns Hopkins University community and external organizations and donors
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Canva
Data visualization and or graphic design skills preferred
Understanding of communications channels Ability to travel up to 15% of the time across Africa and other regions where RISE operates
