Senior Project Manager

The role
Management of the commercial, financial and administration of construction and strategic consultancy commissions and accountability for a client account/s. Running or working on multiple complex projects or programmes.
Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing business case, development and design briefs.
Preparing and delivering of reports including feasibility and project progress reports.
Preparing of risk registers and management of the mitigation/management strategy.
Providing procurement of consultant, contractors and equipment services.
Managing the design process and monitoring against project teams deliverables.
Reviewing and enquiring of technical documentation.
Applying the ISO9001 compliant management system.
Managing of project programme and change control processes.
Monitoring and reporting on budgets, cash flow and profitability.
Managing the construction and project close out including client sign off and facilitating lessons learnt workshops.
Managing health and safety issues and ensure compliance.
Identifying and assigning of resources to activities.

Line management duties:

Responsible for line management of several APMs and PMs.
Ensuring a comprehensive induction is provided to new starters.
Annual and interim appraisals.
Providing regular 1 to 1 meetings throughout the year to provide feedback, support and guidance on performance and to support personal development and career planning.
Approving leave and training requests.
Performance management.
Carrying out the process for transfer of employees from one line manager to another.

This position is located in Kenya, hence it is a requirement that you are prepared to live and work in Kenya full time.
In addition to major project experience, you will require the stakeholder management and communication skills necessary to operate in a culturally diverse location.
The requirements
Your experience, knowledge and skills need to include:

Minimum 10 years’ experience as a project/construction manager and have more than 3 years’ site experience.
Involvement within the construction industry.
Familiarity in managing project performance and turning around non-performing teams is desirable.
Capacity of managing supply chains.
Capability to produce and manage project schedules/programmes.
Capability of identifying and assigning resources to activities.
Managing senior stakeholders, setting and managing project governance.
Development/project briefs and feasibility studies.
Good health, safety and welfare working practices.
Familiarity in sustainability and environmental issues.
Understanding risk management processes.
Understanding of design process and skills in managing design teams.
Expertise in financial management of projects.
Familiarity in project procurement routes.
Contract administration is desirable.
Construction and project close out processes.
Current relevant legislation and regulations.
Construction methodology and building standards, commissioning and handover.
Understanding of hard and soft FM processes.
Techniques for conflict avoidance, management and resolution.
Monitoring and reporting on cash flow and profitability.
Effective written, verbal and graphic presentation skills.
Proficiency in use of MS project, knowledge of critical path analysis.
High-quality reporting skills adapted to a variety of audiences.

Qualifications

A degree qualification related in a construction or project management.
A registered professional with applicable board is desirable.
