Position Function
The Senior Library Assistant will perform the full range of technical and professional library duties in support of the library programs, operations, and services. They will provide effective access to resources, information and ideas, and support the vision and mission of the University Library.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the successful acquisition and seamless delivery of electronic resources to all library users in the university community.
Participate in the promotion of Library resources to the University community.
Manage and update the institutional repository following established policies and procedures.
Assist in the circulation of library materials, including issuance, returning, reservations, and renewing of library items.
Support users, and respond to their enquiries, including the enquiries submitted through RU library’s online enquiry system.
Support library users in the use of library services, including the library catalogue, photocopier and printer.
Assist with collection development and management processes as required.
Undertake information literacy training on how to access and use library systems and online resources to the university community.
Monitor library e-resource usage patterns, analyze library statistics and prepare reports.
Handle routine enquiries relating to use of the library’s electronic collections and troubleshoot access problems.
Provide outreach services to schools and departments.
Any other role that may be assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Academic
A Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
Professional Experience
Minimum five (5) years of working experience in a well-established automated academic library.
Membership in a relevant professional Society/Association is an added advantage.
Hands-on knowledge of the use of Koha library management system and Dspace.
Knowledge & experience of information literacy training.
Proficiency in Cataloguing and Classification.
Participation in other university activities.
