Senior Graphic Design Assistant

Under the overall supervision of the Head of PSU and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, the Senior Graphic Design Assistant will lead the design and production of a diverse range of print and digital materials that communicate the complex and impactful work of IOM Somalia to global audiences. This role demands a creative and strategic thinker who can collaborate effectively with various program teams and external partners, ensuring all materials align with IOM’s brand guidelines and communication objectives.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Lead the creation of visually compelling print and digital materials, such as reports, brochures, infographics, banners, presentations, and web graphics, ensuring they meet the highest standards of design and effectiveness.
Work closely with program teams to grasp their communication needs, translating them into visual solutions that articulate complex messages in an accessible and impactful manner for diverse audiences.
Ensure that all design outputs adhere to the IOM’s brand guidelines and contribute to coherently representing the IOM’s identity across all communications.
Stay abreast of global design trends and incorporate innovative design approaches and technologies that enhance IOM Somalia’s communication efforts.
Support the creation, improvement, and editing of visual elements like artwork, photographs, and charts, enhancing the quality of IOM Somalia’s digital and print outputs.
Update IOM Somalia’s Visibility and Communication folders so all created products are accessible to relevant colleagues.
Manage relationships with external design agencies and freelancers when necessary.
Engage with IOM’s global network of graphic designers, participating in knowledge exchange and collaborative learning to enhance creative skills and approaches across the organization.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or other related disciplines; with minimum four of years of related professional experience; or
High School Degree in above field with minimum six years of related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and training

Experience

Minimum four years of professional experience in graphic design;
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Applications (Aftereffects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & XD), Lightroom, and familiar with web design tools and principles.
Experience in photography and videography, both shooting and editing, is an advantage.
Experience working with international agencies like the UN is an advantage.

Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept to completion, working effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
Excellent graphic design skills.
Creative thinker and with a good eye for design.
High level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines in a complex and fast changing environment.
Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity.

Languages

Fluency in English and Swahili (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of Somali dialect, Arabic, Amharic or Oromo is desirable.
