Job Purpose
Conciliation Resources is headquartered in London, with a registered entity and an office in Central Africa Republic (CAR) and Ethiopia. The Senior Finance Officer position, to be based in Africa, will be supporting the Africa department and its three programmes with a range of finance functions/services including accounting, reporting, planning and cash management. He/she is responsible for providing technical finance assistance to staff as appropriate to ultimately support the delivery of the work of Conciliation Resources.
The post-holder is required to work in close collaboration with the London-based finance team consisting of a Finance Director, a Senior Finance Business Partner, a Finance Business Partner, a Financial Controller, an Income and Treasury Accountant, 2 Finance Officers and 2 Finance Assistants. The post-holder is also expected to work closely with the Africa programmes teams and other staff across Conciliation Resources, as well as our organisational partners. This is a key role in both delivering and developing our financial controls framework, processes and procedures and being able to respond and solve problems.
Person Specification
Knowledge
Qualified through experience or part/full professional/academic qualification in accounting such as CPA, ACCA or CIMA or progress towards.
Proficient knowledge of an accounting system preferably Sun systems.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office (excel) and database software.
Knowledge of AASB accounting standards for Not-for-profit/Charity accounting.
Knowledge of relevant tax regulations in relation to Payroll tax, Withholding tax and VAT in contexts where Conciliation Resources operates in Africa.
Experience
Experience of using financial accounting software to maintain ledgers, bank reconciliations, production and analysis of monthly management reports and operating in a multi-currency environment.
Experience of undertaking a range of financial administrative duties including data input and retrieval.
Experience of working with and developing established financial accounting procedures.
Experience of handling financial reporting to institutional donors such as the UK, German, EU and the Irish.
Experience forecasting and modelling programme budgets
Experience of handling an organisation’s payroll processes
Experience of handling an organisation’s financial processes
Experience of managing and motivating junior staff
Experience of working with staff who are not office based on financial issues.
Skills/Attributes
Excellent computer and IT skills, preferably in a Mac environment including Excel and Word.
Excellent numeracy and accuracy skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Good problem-solving skills/innovative.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Strong organisational skills including planning, developing, implementing and maintaining financial administrative systems.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate in English and French.
Willingness to be proactive and self-servicing, with a proven ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
