Senior Construction Manager – Infrastructure, Civil and Build

You’ll be responsible for:

Project execution and coordination

Lead the on-site execution of large-scale, high-value construction projects in a phased delivery approach.
Oversee construction sequencing, phasing, and logistics to optimize workflow and minimize disruptions.
Coordinate with the design and engineering teams to resolve technical queries, RFIs, and constructability issues.
Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Contract management

Establish and maintain clear communication channels with contractors and consultants.
Monitor and enforce contractual obligations, including scope, performance, and schedule adherence.
Lead progress meetings, ensuring alignment with project milestones and quality standards.

Site management and daily operations

Oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring all activities adhere to safety, quality, and productivity benchmarks.
Maintain comprehensive site records, including daily logs, progress reports, work permits, and safety inspections.
Ensure all materials, equipment, and workforce are efficiently allocated and deployed.
Proactively manage and mitigate risks, addressing potential delays, conflicts, and inefficiencies.

Quality assurance and health and safety compliance

Implement and uphold strict QA/QC procedures to maintain construction excellence.
Ensure all site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety briefings, enforcing corrective actions where necessary.
Collaborate with safety officers to drive a zero-incident culture on-site.

Budget and cost control

Work closely with the commercial and quantity surveying teams to monitor project costs and financial performance.
Identify and manage cost variances, ensuring budget adherence and financial accountability.
Assist in the valuation of completed works, progress claims, and change management processes.

Stakeholder communication and reporting

Serve as the primary site contact for project stakeholders.
Provide weekly and monthly progress reports, highlighting key achievements, risks, and mitigation strategies.
Participate in project review meetings, presenting site updates and addressing stakeholder concerns.
Foster a collaborative work environment among project teams, subcontractors, and consultants.

You’ll need to have:

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
Professional certification (e.g., CIOB, PMP, PRINCE2, NEBOSH, or equivalent) is preferred.
Experience in construction management on large-scale, complex projects.
Proven track record of delivering high-value projects within time, cost, and quality constraints.
Experience managing phased construction projects, working in live environments, and handling logistical challenges.
Strong technical knowledge of civil, structural, and MEP works.
Hands-on experience with contract management (FIDIC, JCT, NEC, or similar).
Leadership and team management: strong ability to lead large construction teams and coordinate multiple workstreams.
Problem-solving: quick decision-making and ability to resolve on-site issues efficiently.
Familiarity with modern construction techniques, methodologies, and industry best practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
IT and reporting: proficient in construction management software (MSP/Primavera)
Experience working across Sub-Saharan Africa or similar regions.
