Sacco Manager

Job Purpose

The job holder shall provide day-to day leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure efficient and effective implementation of SACCO’s strategic plan. He/she will give guidance to the Board of Directors on various policy matters as well as manage the SACCO staff in a competent and business manner to achieve the SACCO’s objective.

Duties & Responsibilities

The job holder with be responsible to the Board of Directors and management of SACCO activities.
Providing advisory services on all financial and accounting matters to the Sacco Board of Directors.
Implementation of the society’s strategic plan, business plan and other SACCO policies.
Ensure Financial strategy supports the achievements of cost savings and revenue targets.
Co-ordination of the SACCO activities to ensure optimum and efficient utilisation of all SACCO assets and resources.
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirement of the SACCO are in order.
Develop and implement budget and expenditure controls so as to ensure that any financial expenditure within the Sacco is planned, controlled and properly authorised;
Manage Sacco cashflow and ensure there is sufficient liquidity.
Create financial insights and share across business units to improve awareness of financial processes.
Manage the credit portfolio and provide reports to the Board of Directors.
Planning and coordinating accounting services; ensuring safe custody of Sacco’s assets.
Develop and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients/stakeholders and ensure effective communication for smooth running of business operations.
Build relationships with banks to ensure facilities are available and appropriate.
Represent the Sacco in forums, business transactions and any other transaction authorized by the Board of Directors.
Identify, analyse and negotiate purchases, ensure that the business plan, objectives are achieved by establishing strategic partnerships with service providers.
System administration and liaison with the Sacco system services’ providers by ensuring SLAs are adhered to.
Provide support to Board of directors by organising all Board and Subcommittee meetings.
Annual and special general meetings and Supervisory meetings as and when required.
Timely prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and end of year reports on performance of entire SACCO’s Key Result Areas to the Board and advises accordingly.
Oversee external Audit exercises and implementing recommendations set forth.
Manage the operational human resource service delivery to ensure full alignment with the business culture and in compliance with policies and procedures.
Oversee procurement process of the office while maintaining optimum reorder levels and optimising cost.
Timely preparation and presentation of various progress reports to the Board of directors.
Develop, review and implement regulations, internal systems, structures, procedures and controls to improve the quality of service with approval from Board of Directors.
Coach and mentor team members to build succession.
Foster a growth oriented, positive and encouraging environment while keeping employees and management accountable to company policies, procedures and guidelines.
Advise management decisions based on analysis of data and own expertise.
Setting up performance management system and monitor key performance areas and ensure all targets are met centric to motivation and continuous improvement.
To have a well-defined communication model in place to ensure all teams understand the performance of the business and also that they understand the needs of their teams.
Attending Board Meetings and ADM in an advisory capacity and implementing the resolutions made.
To be a signatory to SACCO Society cheques, Sacco payments documents, contracts and other documents as may be necessary.
To keep minutes of all SACCO meetings and reports.
Ensure correctness of books of accounts, receipts and disbursements are well maintained.
Leave management of Sacco staff to reduce leave liability.
To perform such other duties as may be directed by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Experience
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option from a recognized institution.
Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Have seven (7) years relevant experience with at least Two (2) years served in management on a similar capacity in large and reputable financial institution.
Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)K and a member the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in good standing.
Computer proficiency course from a recognized institution.
Knowledge of national and industry related financial principles.
Prior experience and exposure in the Sacco industry.
