The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Officer I – Gender (and youth) in the Environment to support the design, coordination and implementation of gender and youth components of projects that focus on livestock systems, participatory rangeland management and climate related issues.
Responsibilities
Supported by the ILRI gender team and Sustainable Livestock Systems, the person will support the design, coordination and implementation of gender and youth components of projects that focus on livestock systems, participatory rangeland management and climate related issues.
Coordinate, implement and manage data collection and fieldwork
Assist in the development of research instruments to collect gender and youth data
Conduct research analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative social data
Contribute to writing of scientific publications and outputs that include tools, policy briefs and documents for a wider audience
Requirements
MSc in social science (geography, anthropology, sociology, or other related field) with an emphasis on gender and/or youth
Three years experience in gender research
Prior experience collecting and analysing gender related data
Prior experience managing field teams preferred
Familiarity with gender and livestock system issues and challenges in East African contexts; knowledge of youth issues is preferred
Good analytical skills – either qualitative or quantitative, both preferred
Capacity to work independently
Very good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in teams and with partners from diverse backgrounds, nationalities, and scientific disciplines
Strong English skills, written and spoken, knowledge of local languages a bonus
Willingness to travel, often to rural areas to supervise and manage fieldwork
Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya
