Research Assistant, Methane Management Project

REPORTING TO: Project Lead, Accelerating Actions to Address Non-CO2 Emissions in
Africa through a Community of Practice (CoP) for Methane Project.
JOB PURPOSE:

The project funded by Global Methane Hub through a consortium, intends to build an African-led community of practice dedicated to promoting, supporting, and accelerating actions for mitigating non-CO2 emissions, with a primary focus on methane management across the three sectors of energy, waste, and agriculture.
The Research Assistant will support the Accelerating Actions to Address Non-CO2 Emissions in
Africa through a Community of Practice (CoP) for Methane project through ongoing research, data collection, and analysis activities related to finance and investment strategies for methane management. This includes exploring sustainable investment models, financial instruments, and policies to mitigate methane emissions across industries, in the focus sectors.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and Analysis

Conduct in-depth literature reviews on methane management and sustainable finance trends.
Assist in developing models and frameworks for methane management financing.
Analyze African investment trends, policies, and best practices in methane reduction strategies.

Data Collection and Management

Gather and maintain data on methane emissions and related economic indicators.
Create and manage databases of financial tools, stakeholders, and investment opportunities.

Policy and Industry Engagement

Support stakeholder mapping for public and private partnerships in methane reduction initiatives across Africa.
Assist in preparing reports and policy briefs for dissemination to relevant industry stakeholders.

Publications and Dissemination

Assist in drafting academic papers, project reports, and funding proposals.
Present research findings at workshops, conferences, and internal seminars.

Collaboration and Administrative Support

Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Strathmore Business School and partner organizations.
Provide administrative support for research projects, including meeting coordination and budget tracking.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The post holder will be required to have and to demonstrate evidence of the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Specialized knowledge in sustainable finance, environmental economics, or climate change mitigation is an advantage.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Previous research experience in finance, investments, or climate change finance.
Familiarity with financial instruments such as green bonds, carbon credits, or impact investing
Excellent communication skills
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including proficiency in statistical software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
