Registered Laboratory Technologist

Job Description
As a Laboratory Technologist you will ensure critical impact healthcare to our patients, outstanding patient experiences while providing the highest quality laboratory results. You will be responsible for the provision of information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting quality medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive laboratory services by attending to a wide variety of patients who present with various complaints and have different laboratory needs.
Attend to patients with high quality standards in an extremely friendly manner and seek second opinions if necessary.
Enforce infection prevention procedures, ensure the highest patient safety.
Actively participate in Quality Improvement Programs essential to ensure that laboratory testing is accurate, timely and meets patients’ needs.
Maintain competence in Laboratory Information System accuracy and completeness (within our Electronic Medical Records) that is crucial to the quality operations of the laboratory and patient care.
Timely reporting and record submission
Calibrate and do routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and machines as per established protocols, schedules, and procedures
Perform tests with maximum efficiency ensuring maximum utilization of reagents and time following laid down standard operating procedures. 
Communicate urgent/critical/abnormal test results within recommended period of time and maintain appropriate documentation.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and infection control policies and procedures and all licensing authorities
Review all tests results for accuracy and consistency, correlating results with patients’ conditions.
Enter results in the laboratory information management system.
Assist in writing and revising of procedures and manual of standard laboratory procedures
Maintain inventory of equipment and monitor laboratory supply levels and assist in reordering and inventory of supplies.
Observe/comply with Health & Safety requirements in the laboratory by maintaining high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness in the work area.
Prepare samples for storage
Maintain specimen inventory
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Notify the appropriate health professional in case of Critical / Panic values or questionable results that require verification or re-collection of samples.
Maintain laboratory records and archiving system of patient information, equipment and tests results to comply with regulations.
Participate in continuous medical education and advise management on new procedures and advances in technology.
Monitor lab stock levels and produce monthly lab stock orders.
Handle the registration of the laboratory at the KMLTTB
Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from an institution recognized by the KMLTTB
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a busy Laboratory setup
Registration Certificate and valid practicing license issued by KMLTTB
Fully proficient in a wide range of lab services, including haematology
Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Familiarity with the total quality processQuality assurance, quality control processes are mandatory
Ability to carry out grossing, sectioning of specimens Ability to calibrate, operate and maintain laboratory instruments.
Ability to analyze and evaluate data critically.
Unquestionable integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Professional attitude and strong work ethic with attention to timeliness.
Outstanding patient interaction skills and ability to work well with teammates
Excellent interpersonal, communication & customer care skills.
MUST be Computer literate
Have experience working with any ERP system.
