Regional Strategic Education Advisor – Gender Transformative Pedagogy

Responsibilities of the Regional Strategic Education Advisor:

Contribute to the ambition and values of VVOB by providing technical and strategic advice and guidance within VVOB and outside.
Reporting to the Regional Technical Lead based in Kenya, you will work in close collaboration with the Global and Regional Strategic Advisors and Regional Coordinator, and VVOB regional and country teams.

You will:

Design and develop relevant Teacher Professional Development (TPD) for Gender Transformative Pedagogy (GTP) projects, in close collaboration with internal and external regional stakeholders.
Provide strategic advice and guidance to VVOB and VVOB’s partners on TPD for GTP, in line with policy trends, new developments and the latest research and thinking in education and international development.
Take up a variety of roles in the capacity development process according to the needs, particular situations, and phases of the programme cycle, including scaling.
Create and manage partnerships and strong networks with relevant partners, institutions, and organizations working on TPD for GTP initiatives.
Contribute to internal and external knowledge development and learning, by systemizing lessons learned and sharing pro-actively lessons learned between partners, colleagues and other VVOB country teams through relevant learning platforms and communities of practice (CoP).
Support the Strategic Communication Advisor on developing content for communication (e.g., website, video, social media…) and contribute to the dissemination of findings and results (e.g., international conferences, seminars, workshops, and other events) on TPD for GTP initiatives.

If you’re our Strategic Education Advisor, your workweek at the office may include the following highlights:

Together with VVOB and RTIA partners, you provide support, and give input and strategic thinking for a proposal for a new TPD for GTP project to be implemented in South Africa.
You think of strategic adjustments that need to be made to one of the ongoing GTP initiatives, to ensure quality of delivery and sustainability and increased opportunities for scaling. You develop strategic actions that would need to happen for these changes to be made, which you put into a presentation to be shared with the regional team.
Lunch! A perfect way to informally check in with your VVOB colleagues to hear the latest updates about the inception and implementation phases of the RTIA.
You prepare for a workshop on TPD for GTP with key members in the Ministry of Education in Ghana, liaising with key colleagues for their inputs in the planning.
You take some deep-dive time to work on your comparative report on factors and variables influencing scalability of GTP initiatives in various African countries.

Your expertise and experience

Master’s degree in education, human sciences, or related field or equivalent experience
In depth understanding of the regional education systems and education in development, especially on teacher professional development, gender equity and gender transformative pedagogy /education in the African continent
Experience with developing and implementing multi-country education programmes in the African continent
Experience in organizational and institutional capacity strengthening for national and regional partners
Experience in scaling strategies for innovations in education desirable
Experience in building strong networks and partnerships at the regional level
Fluent in English, French or Portuguese is an advantage
You are authorized to work in Kenya on a local contract
