Regional Coordinator – Community Conservancy Policy Support and Implementation Program

JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Regional coordinator is responsible to support the implementation of the CCSP program and other KWCA programs within the 12 KWCA regions. The Coordinator will particularly take lead in activities that enhance and maintain productive partnerships at the regional and conservancy level. He/She will provide leadership in developing strong partnership between KWCA and the various conservancy support organizations, regional associations, conservancies and others that further the mission of community based conservation. The regional coordinator will foster regular engagement, learning, sharing of best practices and capacity building for KWCA members, regional associations and partners.Specific roles will include;Reporting to the CEO and working in close liaison with KWCA staff, the Regional coordinator will carry out the following duties:1. Membership support• Manage KWCA membership (registration, annual renewal of membership, signing of individual Conservancy Members Declaration etc)• Identify and recruit conservancies which are not yet members of KWCA• Support the adoption and implementation of KWCA and Regional Associations’Memoranda of understanding, Conservancy Members Declaration and sharing of tools and guidelines developed by KWCA for that purpose• Regularly inform KWCA secretariat on new and emerging challenges and opportunities and identify priority actions to be undertaken to support conservancies including on issues related to conflict management• Assist with collection and analysis of conservancy-related data for use in reports and monitoring and evaluation and implement KWCA monitoring systems at the conservancy levelB: Capacity Building• Lead KWCA capacity building efforts among conservancies and regional associations, through support to undertake capacity needs assessments and implementation of capacity building plansC: Partnerships and Networking• Identify and foster partnerships with KWCA member conservancies, regional associations and County governments and other non- government organizations on community based conservation• Facilitate strong engagement of conservancies stakeholders with County governments aimed at mainstreaming conservancies in county plans and programs• Maintain close contact with conservancy stakeholders at all the KWCA regions including frequent field visits, attendance of meetings and events to represent KWCA and to document and share lessons on the evolving issues of conservanciesD: Regional Activities• Organize and facilitate KWCA meetings and activities at regional levels as outlined in KWCA Strategic plan, annual work plans and various project documents.• Support and participate in activities of Regional Associations• Organize activities geared towards supporting conservancy’s management (leaders, managers and wildlife scouts) to participate in forums and learning exchanges that lead to        improved natural resource management and sustainable practices.• Represent KWCA and present perspective as national umbrella body for conservancies in regional meetings• To ensure KWCA programs’ visibility at the regional levelQualification, Experience and Competencies• University degree in natural resource management, development studies and Social sciences or in a related field from a recognized university, and at least 5 years of relevant        work experience. Masters Degree in the above or related fields is an added advantage• Excellent understanding of Kenya’s environment policies, practices and emerging opportunities and challenges specific to community conservancies including resource                    management, benefit sharing and governance. Familiarity with the conservancies governance models in Kenya’s Key conservation areas is an added advantage.• Proven experience working with local communities in rangelands of Kenya with significant involvement in conservancy management• Excellent project management skills including project planning, budgeting, technical and financial reporting and monitoring and evaluation• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili and knowledge in office packages• Experience working with partners and multiple stakeholders including government agencies• Excellent driving skills
