Regional Campaigns and Advocacy Manager

Reports to: Campaigns Manager, UK
Technical/Professional Accountability to: Regional Director, Director of Advocacy
Overall Purpose
The main purpose of the Regional Campaigns and Advocacy Manager role is to contribute towards the Africa office delivery of The Donkey Sanctuary’s global strategic objectives by:

Monitoring the Africa region for strategic issues that could impact upon the Donkey Sanctuary’s work, and advising senior leadership on how to position the organization accordingly;
Fulfill a key role in ensuring that The Donkey Sanctuary’s work is in synch with relevant Africa strategies and priorities at continental, regional and country levels;
Developing networks and strategic links to Governments and key influencers/stakeholders to forward the Donkey Sanctuary’s strategic objectives;
Providing expertise and resources to support the design and impact assessment of the priority campaigns work in the region with a principal focus on the trade in donkey skins; and
Representing The Donkey Sanctuary on the key forums on which it engages including AU-IBAR, EALA, IGAd etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Relevant university degree from a recognized university or 10 years’ senior management experience in a similar organization. An advanced degree will be of added advantage.
Proven professional experience in policy influencing and advocacy at an advanced level, able to demonstrate skills in advocacy, facilitation, strategy and leadership
Experience in initiating contact and developing effective relationships with government and industry representatives at senior level.
Experience in developing and applying impact assessment frameworks and processes in a similar context
Relevant level of awareness of global and country specific animal protection issues as well as global and regional socio-economic, political and environmental issues
Proven ability to coordinate diverse teams, some of whom will be based in other countries and cultures
Proven research and evaluation skills
Excellent oral and written (English) communication skills
Strong interpersonal, networking and organizational skills
Experience in project and budget management
Highly organized and able to work on own initiative and to strict deadlines
Sensitive to social and cultural issues, flexible and able to embrace change positively
Able to travel at short notice and work nationally and internationally
Relevant computer skills
