KEMRI in collaboration with Clean Air (Africa) is seeking to employ a dynamic, innovative, experienced and self- driven assistant qualitative analyst to be part of an established team to work on a multi-national Unit project in Kenya funded by NIHR CLEAN-Air (Africa) Global Health Research Unit between (2022-2027) which is also part of the Energy, Air
Pollution and Health Research Group at the Department for Public Health, Policy and Systems, University of Liverpool. The Unit’s Programme builds on substantial success of the CLEANAir (Africa) Global Health Research Group (2018 to 2022: see www.cleanairafrica.com)) and expands its geographical focus from Kenya to include Cameroon, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
The Project is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Qualitative Analyst
Duties and responsibilities:
Conduct qualitative research: Design and implement qualitative research studies, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, and case studies, to explore the various dimensions of air pollution, energy systems, and health impacts.
Data collection and analysis: Collect, organize, and analyze qualitative data using established methodologies and techniques such as thematic analysis, content analysis, and grounded theory.
Interpretation of findings: Identify patterns, themes, and trends in qualitative data to draw meaningful insights and translate them into actionable recommendations.
Literature review: Stay abreast of the latest research and scientific literature related to air pollution, energy systems, and health to provide a comprehensive context for your qualitative analysis.
Collaboration and teamwork: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, scientists, and policymakers to integrate qualitative findings with quantitative data and contribute to a holistic understanding of the subject matter.
Report writing and presentation: Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing research findings, methodologies, and recommendations for a diverse range of stakeholders, including policymakers, government agencies, and the general public. Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and other scientific forums.
Quality assurance: Ensure the accuracy, validity, and reliability of qualitative data through rigorous quality assurance protocols, including data verification and validation.
Continuous learning: Keep up-to-date with emerging qualitative research methods, analytical tools, and technologies in the field of air pollution, energy, and health to enhance research capabilities and improve the quality of outputs.
Any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Sociology, Anthropology, or any related field.
Knowledge in conducting qualitative research, preferably in the areas of air pollution, energy systems, or health.
Strong knowledge of qualitative research methodologies, including data collection techniques, coding frameworks, and analysis approaches.
Training on qualitative analysis software (ODK) is an added advantage.
Familiarity with the scientific literature and key concepts related to air pollution, energy sources, and their impacts on human health and the environment.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
Certificate of completion on household air pollution, health, and prevention.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present research findings effectively to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality research outputs.
Flexibility to adapt to changing project priorities and timelines.
Any other duties and responsibilities as my be assigned by the Principal Investigator.
