About the role
As a QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) Intern, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the development and maintenance of robust safety and environmental practices within our organization. Your primary duty station will be in Eldoret.
Duties and Responsibilities
Training Development: Assisting in the creation of comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing staff competencies in QHSE areas, with a focus on creating measurable outcomes.
Process Improvement: Participating in the assessment, design, and implementation of process changes necessary to meet and uphold standards mandated by regulatory bodies such as DOSH and NEMA, ensuring compliance with workplace safety and environmental regulations.
Audit Coordination and Analysis: Coordinating workplace audit inspections and overseeing the collection, analysis, and reporting of findings, along with the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) across operational teams.
Emergency Preparedness: Coordinating QHSE activities related to fire preparedness, accident and incident preparedness, as well as employee wellness initiatives.
Training and Competence Management: Supporting the coordination of QHSE learning and competence development across operational teams by facilitating training sessions, safety inductions, and toolbox talks.
Record Management: Maintaining all QHSE records including general registers, training records, and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) databases to ensure compliance and accessibility.
Risk Assessment: Conducting regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions, particularly focusing on high-risk teams and areas.
Quality Assurance/Control: Working closely with all teams to ensure adherence to quality assurance/control guidelines and conducting on-site product quality checks and inventory inspections as per given schedules.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Occupational Health and Safety.
Ability to undertake risk assessment – Job safety analysis.
Demonstrated experience in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment related work
Proficiency in Google Workspace/G Suite (docs, sheets, slides)
Well-versed in DOSH, NEMA and other relevant regulations.
High level of diligence and attention to detail due to the nature of the work and what it entails (overall employee well-being and safety).
Highly organized and able to prioritize action items based on the needs and urgency into short, mid-term, and long-term.
