WYG is seeking an experienced individual to operate as the Project Manager for the EU-funded Building Opportunities for Resilience in the Horn Of Africa (BORESHA) and DANIDA-funded Durable Solutions Programme (DSP) projects. Please see attached ToR.
Reporting to the Team Leader and under the overall supervision of the Team Leader and Project Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and implementation of both projects as outlined in the scope of work below.
Scope of Work:
Manage and coordinate project implementation activities, both administratively and financially, applying strategic planning and systematic coordination of project activities;
Monitor overall coordination such that project outcomes are effectively reached;
Together with project leadership, set and review programme objectives, targets and the performance of the project team;
Proactively monitor and oversee risk management on the project
Manage relations with clients, suppliers and contacts relevant to the project;
Monitor and ensure compliance with project KPIs;
Day-to-day supervision/line management of the project team and personnel, ensuring effective communication with the project leadership;
Ensure timely and high quality preparation of project annual/quarterly/final narrative and financial progress reports and work plans to the lead partner and the client, as appropriate;
Establish effective coordination, monitoring, information sharing and reporting systems for projects;
Ensure quality of outputs and results through effective monitoring mechanisms;
Together with the project leadership, guide project staff and the consultants such that project objectives are achieved.
Monitor project budget and financial resources, exercise good financial control of projects and ensure accuracy and reliability of financial reports;
Manage project administrative, operations and security-related activities;
Coordinate cross office working with internal colleagues on delivery;
Act as the contract administrator/employers agent of the projects on behalf of WYG;
Together with the Team Leaders , act as the client representative for both projects on behalf of WYG;
Integrate the projects with WYG disciplines, procedures and systems;
Identify support and advice required from the Project Director for management, planning and control of the projects.
Engage in bi-weekly briefings and updates for the Project Director on key project activities, issues and required action points (i.e., progress against planned activities, update on risks and issues, expenditures).
Provide support to the project leadership in drafting of ToRs for consultancy services and work specifications and ensure transparent and competitive selection, recruitment of staff and consultants;
Manage the dissemination of project deliverables, files, documents, equipment and materials as per project and WYG standards;
In consultation with project leadership, conduct yearly performance appraisal exercises for the project staff;
Perform any other project related duties as may be required by the project leadership
The estimated commencement date is March/April 2019 and this will be a fixed term contract for 2 years. The position will be based in Nairobi Kenya with visits to project sites in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia.
We are seeking candidates for the full time project manager position, with the following qualifications and experience:
Qualifications:
At least a University Degree in economic development, governance, peace and conflict etc., and any other relevant field;
A formal qualification in project management (i.e. Prince 2 or PMP) would be desirable
At least 5-10 years of work experience in international development projects including work plan development and oversight, financial management and quality controls
Proven experience and technical ability to manage large and complex programmes in fragile and conflict-affected situations;
Effective management, negotiation and interpersonal skills proven through a strong track record with national and local governments, donors and NGOs;
Demonstrated and proven ability to effectively manage a team and facilitate collaboration;
Capability in self-starting projects with multi-disciplinary teams, partners and clients;
Fluency in English, with strong command of both oral and written English;
Computer literacy skills;
The candidate should have a right to live and work in Kenya.
