Project Coordinator, Climate Change and Environment – (1 Position)

Job Summary:

The post holder will be in charge of coordination of the EU-cofunded project ‘Sikiliza Sauti Yetu: Dunia inaita! Supporting youth-centred civil society and community engagement in climate action in Kenya’ related activities. (S)he will be responsible for the correct and successful implementation of the related activities, monitoring the indicators as per what the project proposal states, in close collaboration with the Program Manager.

Key Objectives of the Position

The Project Coordinator will be directly responsible for the overall management of the project in full compliance with the organization and the donor’s procedures, including planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities. S/he will be directly assigned to the supervision of all logistics, financial and operational resources dedicated to the project in close collaboration with and under the direct supervision of the Program Manager and the Finance team. S/he will report to the country representative and maintain effective relations and coordination with all project stakeholders at regional level.

Key Responsibilities
Closely working with the Program Manager, the Project Coordinator acts as project focal point in the assigned region and ensure excellence in implementation of the project activities in terms of impact, reporting, and timeliness. Areas of focus will include the following:
Project Management, Monitoring and Reporting

Plan and implement the project activities in compliance with the project design and timetable.
Provide direct supervision of the project activities implemented by the partner organizations and by the associate, including baseline/endline survey and research, CSOs/CBOs mapping, identification of beneficiaries, training sessions, debates, roundtables, awareness events and media campaigns on climate change.
Coordinate all aspects related to finance, administrative, and logistics management of the activities, ensuring knowledge and adherence to operational plans, donor requirements and WeWorld procedures.
Ensure that all project documents are available (attendance sheets, MoU, minutes of meetings, contracts and agreements, activity reports, etc.).
Support the development of workplans and ensure effective coordination, timely and quality implementation and monitoring of project activities to meet deliverables
Lead and/or participate in project meetings and support their arrangement.
Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and learning (MEAL) through routine, accurate collection and reporting of information on project progress and achievements.
Support the preparation of reports to be submitted to the donor, the regional office and Local Authorities, among others.
Support the implementation of visibility actions and ensure compliance with WeWorld and donor’s guidelines.
Ensures that project is implemented according to the contract signed with the EU, its procedures (e.g. visibility, documentation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting etc), and WeWorld procedures.
Develop and maintain relationships internally and externally with relevant actors (including donors, partners, appropriate cluster leads and local authorities)
Explore the scope for further possible partnerships between the WeWorld and various governmental and non-governmental organisations for effective implementation and enhanced sustainability
Supports identification and formulation of new concept notes and project proposals
Build strategic networks with local communities, CBO/CSOs, and Local Authorities at County and National levels.
Ensure coordination of the project activities with all relevant stakeholders at County and at the National level.
Perform any other task assigned by the Country Representative

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the Project Coordinator may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

University Degree in Environmental studies, Agriculture, Project Management, Social Sciences or a related field.
Minimum 3 years’ experience of project management in a development or humanitarian context, similar position with local/international organizations, government or relevant organizations in humanitarian and development projects.
Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills and reporting skills in English
Computer skills, in particular MS Office, and social media skills
Proven leadership skills and excellent social/networking skills, ability to engage with government, private sector and civil society
Proven organizational skills and ability to manage effectively multiple tasks with strong financial management abilities
Monitoring and evaluation skills
Demonstrates integrity concerning NGO values and ethical standards
Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability

Assets

Previous experience in management of EU funded projects is a STRONG asset.
Previous experience in climate advocacy projects and Climate Smart agriculture approach.
Excellent analytical and self-motivation skills, excellent advocacy and persuasion skills, able to think critically and motivate the team.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Prior experience successfully managing culturally-diverse teams to achieve project outcomes.
