Project Accountant

Reporting to:             Finance and Operations Manager
HIAS seeks to recruit a Project Accountant who will provide accounting and financial services necessary for the continued operations of the organization.  He or She will ensure that transactions are correctly captured in the most efficient manner and that day-to-day accounting is effectively and efficiently carried out to support the various programs.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Reviewing clients’ social assistance and program activities requisitions and approval for payment within the prescribed limits.
Collating and filing of payment vouchers and accounting journals
Assist in processing and making payments to vendors and clients
Entering and posting of payment transactions into the Great Plains Accounting System(GP) once approved by the Finance and Operations Manager
Prepare monthly, quarterly and mid- year donor financial reports for submission to the Finance and Operations Manager.
Ensure back up of supporting documents are in accordance with HRTK and donor accounting procedures;
Prepare and facilitate donor verification exercises assisting in review of financial reports backups and vouching of supporting documents as assigned on a needs basis;
Assist in the preparation and coordination of project and institutional audit of books of accounts by internal and external auditors;
Participate in project budget preparation exercises
Assist in preparing and monitoring donor monthly burn rates reports for various programs to ensure that the budget lines are not exceeded or under spent.
Prepare bank and petty cash reconciliation on monthly basis
Maintain account receivables and payable account on monthly basis
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and budgetary control reports for donors as assigned on a needs basis.
Assist in development of various accountability vouchers for use in the finance office
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce; Accounting or Finance option.
Must be a CPA(K) Finalist
Master’s Degree in related field would be an added advantage
A minimum of 3 years’ working experience

Skills & Competencies

Working knowledge of and experience in the Great Plains Accounting System will be an added advantage.
