Programmes Controller

JOB PURPOSE:

The Programmes Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of on-air programming for the station. This includes supervising presenters, producers, and show preparation to ensure high-quality, engaging, and consistent content. They oversee both live and pre-recorded programming, conduct air checks, and work closely with the music controller to ensure the station’s sound aligns with its brand identity. This role is crucial in shaping the on-air product and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

On-Air Talent & Production Management: Supervise and manage presenters and producers, ensuring they are well-prepared and aligned with the station’s vision and audience expectations.
Content Oversight: Monitor all on-air content, including live and pre-recorded programming, ensuring compliance with broadcasting standards, station policies, and regulatory requirements.
Air Checks & Performance Reviews: Conduct regular air checks with presenters to provide feedback, improve delivery, and maintain high on-air standards.
Music & Station Sound Management: Collaborate with the music controller to ensure the music selection aligns with the station’s target audience and brand positioning.
Editorial & Creative Direction: Guide the development of show formats, themes, and overall content strategy to enhance listener engagement.
Crisis Management: Address any on-air issues, content breaches, or technical challenges to safeguard the station’s reputation and broadcast integrity.
Scheduling & Show Planning: Ensure well-structured programming schedules that balance entertainment, news, music, and advertisements effectively.
Training & Development: Mentor and coach on-air talent and production staff to enhance their skills and performance.
Market Analysis: Keep up with audience trends, competitor programming, and industry developments to inform programming decisions.
Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with other departments, including sales, marketing, and technical teams, to ensure cohesive station operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Academic: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Media, Journalism, Communication, or a related field
Experience: Minimum 6 years of Experience in a similar role within the broadcasting industry.
A passion for radio, entertainment, and audience engagement.

Has proficiency in the Luganda language (Can read and write)
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in radio automation and scheduling software.
