Programme Officer: SRHR and SGBV

Purpose: 

This position provides programme support and opportunity in building capacity of six Community Based Organizations to lead change from their communities. The position will provide an opportunity to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes for women in Narok County by addressing gender inequalities that are sustained by social norms, attitudes and cultural practices contributing to Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the Programme Officer will:

Lead and oversee the planning, implementation monitoring and reporting for the COVAW projects on Female Genital Cutting(FGC), Sexual and Gender Based Violence(SGBV) and other related interventions in Narok County, in line with COVAW’s strategic plan.
Capacity building of community-based organizations in the areas of Strategic Plan development, project life cycle management, community activism, monitoring and evaluation, community activism, etc.
Ensure the implementation of the project activities in line with the proposal, work-plan and budgets.
Act as COVAW’s contact person with the community and other stakeholders in Narok including representing COVAW in relevant technical working groups and meetings, as assigned.
Identify, support and work with custodians of culture, community activists and paralegals on community mobilization approaches that address gender based violence
Contribute/ lead in the development of relevant project materials including IEC, policy and advocacy resources as required within the projects.
Prepare accurate and timely reports of all program activities and expenditures
Ensure that project monitoring is conducted diligently and qualitative and quantitative data management is done to ensure project learning.
Manage project budgets in adherence to donor and organizational rules and policies.
Undertake full operational responsibility over COVAW’s assets in use.
Development of timely and competitive proposals for submission to potential donors.

Required qualifications and competencies

Bachelor’s degree in any social sciences.
At least five years of experience in capacity funding of CBOs in the areas of Governance, fundraising and resource mobilization, project life cycle management, monitoring and evaluation, etc.
Project Management Cycle training and experience in managing GBV, SRHR and access to justice projects.
Proposal writing skills
Specific experience in managing FGM projects will be an added advantage
Excellent reporting skills
Project budget management skills
Experience in stakeholder engagement including relevant government officials at national and county levels
Ability to work with diverse people and cultures
Ability to work independently, prioritize, set and meet goals
Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
Self-starter, able to work independently but able to consult effectively, prioritize and handle multiple tasks including through delegation
