A unique opportunity to learn and support Danish Red Cross’ work in Kenya
The Danish Red Cross Country Office for Kenya is located in Nairobi. We work closely with the Kenya Red Cross through a mutually benefiting long-term partnership focusing largely in community resilience building, Health (with a strong focus on Non-communicable diseases), innovation, youth, psychosocial support and operations emergency response support to the National Society. The intern will be supporting these ongoing programmes and get a unique insight into the humanitarian sector and long-term development work of Danish Red Cross in Kenya.
Your tasks:
The intern will support the work at the Country Office and the Danish Red Cross’ overall response in Kenya. This will include:
Support in setting up new projects
Support in follow up of specific programme management tasks
Support in drafting project agreements/addendums
Support in reporting/reviewing reports/follow up of reports due/filling reports
Support day to day activities at Country Office
Assist with the file handling
Participate in relevant meetings and workshops
You will learn about the work of Danish Red Cross in Kenya and receive ongoing supervision and support by the country manager and country staff.
We expect
We expect that you work independently, are action driven and provide an effective service delivery. You are well structured and resourceful, interested in humanitarian work and want to be part of the Red Cross. We also expect you to have an interest in working closely with local actors, and that you have the skills to engage in different project activities. We imagine that you through your study have knowledge of international humanitarian work and/or insight into partnership projects.
The professional and academic background needed for the position is:
Excellent report writing and communication skills to be disseminated in a professional, but not academic language.
Documented experience from working with organizational development involving volunteers as well as programme design and monitoring.
Cultural sensitivity and experience in participatory methods and planning of fieldwork.
Knowledge of the Red Cross Movement is an advantage.
It is required to have an internship agreement with the university in place prior to the start of the internship, thus, enrollment in a relevant master programme e.g. social science, political science, African studies, development studies or similar, is a requirement of this position.
As a person, you are result oriented with a cultural sensitivity. You have an ability to both listen and facilitate dialogues with a flexible approach, adapting your way of working depending on the culture and capacities.
Fluency in both Danish and English is a must
